I came to surprise a friend for her birthday. We got back to my hotel pretty late and decided to finish chatting in my friend's car. She felt due to it being dark it would be safer to park near the entrance where you enter the hotel so we could be seen and had plenty of light. As we are talking we noticed police flying up to the hotel and we assumed it was some type of emergency. We immediately thought maybe we should move a little so that the police could have room to get through. As we began to slowly try and move forward my friend notices the police are boxing us in and moving forward with us as well. So of course my friend stops when we realize they are trying to stop us. They jump out and a cop rushes to both sides of the car. At that point we are terrified because we have no clue as to what's going on. My friend immediately rolls both front windows down and ask what is happening. The cops tell us that the hotel called the police because my friends car has been parked at the front of the hotel for a while. We of course explained that I was staying at the hotel and provided identification. The police said the hotel was concerned about break ins and got suspicious of my friends car. I have NEVER experienced this in my life at any hotel and it was truly frightening and uncalled for. We literally parked near the door so that we could be safe and visible with plenty of light. The vehicle had no tint or anything that would hinder anyone from seeing that it was just 2 women sitting in the vehicle. You literally would look us right in the face if you came out of the door of the hotel. I have never heard of someone who is looking to break in cars out in the parking lot to sit at the entryway where it's surveillance and great light visibility for an hour or so before they start breaking into things out in the parking lot. So much for thinking we were being safe. My fiance was upstairs and when I came in to let him know what had taken place he immediately went downstairs to speak with the gentleman at the front desk and the police also happened to be there still and told him as well that the hotel called the police. When my fiance spoke with the gentleman at the front desk he lied and claimed that the hotel didn't call the police and he had no idea what was going on. The cops literally told my friend and myself the hotel called and why. Law enforcement has no reason to lie about that. If your hotel has crime of that nature often taking place, I would suggest hiring hotel security for the parking lot as many other hotels do. Police resources should not be wasted for someone just simply sitting at the front door having conversation. No guest should ever be frightened like that. We no longer felt comfortable staying at this hotel so we left after what had taken place. I will say the 2 young ladies that checked me in earlier the day before were absolutely amazing and very polite so this does not reflect on them in any way. It was the heavyset African American gentleman who simply didn't want to get off his butt and take a look out the door if there was concern and decided to call police as he was the one on shift. Don't be a coward and say that you didn't call the police on two women trying to be safe, when law enforcement said you did. I don't suggest anyone stay at this property if you are prone to possibly sitting in your vehicle for any reason cause it could be you next getting...
Read moreBeware of this place. I've stayed in a few Marriot Suites and other lesser hotel chains in my time and this is the worst place I've ever been. All started well until I got a call at 4 AM in the morning of my first night to let me know that the police was downstairs and wanted to speak to me.
It turns out that my vehicle was one of 7 vehicles that were broken into that night. Visions of my vehicle sitting on blocks with my wheels gone and windows broken with my vehicle electronics all stolen 1500 miles from home flashed through my mind. Luckily though it was not so bad. But thus my nightmare began.
The next morning I waited to see if I would at least get a call from hotel management acknowledging that the crime had happened and at least some sort of apology but got nothing. At 2 PM, I went to the front desk and asked to speak to a manger where upon I was told that the manager was out and not available. I then asked if the manager could be called then and was advised that I would get a call from the manager as she was on the phone dealing with another incident. An hour later I still had not received a call so I went back asking to speak to a manager and let the lady at the front desk know that I was waiting for a call I never got. Again I was told the manager would give me a call. This happened 4 consecutive times where I went up to the front desk and asked to speak to a manger and my requests were not responded to. During these times, I also was the unwitting listener to multiple complaints from other guests ranging from rooms that were reserved not being available upon arrival to A/C not working however I will refrain from going into them in details as they are not mine to discuss.
Finally, i got a call a 10:14PM (some 8 hours later) from a manager who stated she was away on vacation in New York but had reached out to me because the other manager was moving that weekend and did not have his phone on hand. She did not sound apologetic at all but seemed to be reading through a prepared script. There was no concern or anything at all but rather I was told that they're not responsible for my vehicle in their lot but they were willing to add a few points to my Marriott rewards for the inconvenience. I declined the offer and was blankly told that if I changed my mind i could call the front desk to get the points added before I left. All of this was done without what I feel was any sort of professional courtesy in my opinion.
Frankly speaking, I'm ready to get rid of my Marriot rewards membership and move on to another hotel that treats its guest with some respect. I understand that they may not be responsible for my property in their parking lot which they claim my vehicle was in a location not monitored by their cameras. I have since learned from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police that this area is unfortunately a high property crime area. This hotel is more concerned with keeping up their image rather than protecting their guests’ property so no one warns you that this could happen nor do they spare the expense to hire security to protect their guests' property. Violent crime may be down in this area but beware as you cannot expect your property to be safe...
Read moreWe stayed here for a family trip. We stayed in a one bedroom king suite. An important thing to note about these rooms as it is not obvious from description or photos is that the bedroom isn't private. The description says there is a king bedroom and two pull out couches. There are two rooms but they don't explain that the second pull out couch is in the king bedroom. This was a family trip where we thought the kids would get their own space and we'd get ours but that was not the case because one of the couches is in the bedroom. Not a huge issue but guests should be able to see the layout of the room. There are two TVs that was information I also could not find online. Continuing with the room overall it was good. Plenty of space for our family of 5. My complaints are about cleanliness and design. The room never felt unsanitary but it could use a bit more care in the cleaning. There was gunk around the bottles in the shower as well as the soap holder. There was a Bobby pin in the floor of the bathroom when we arrived as well. The room did not get refreshed during the day either. We had to request it that's fine but make sure guests are aware this isn't a daily service or that it's by request only. As far as the design of the room the bathroom door was a sliding door that would not stay closed. We had to have someone outside the bathroom prop luggage against the door for each use. Very inconvenient. Also we're all in favor of reusing our towels. But there was no where to hang them! The room can accommodate 6 people how can 6 people hang towels on the bar you'd use for the hand towel? It's an easy fix just add a few hooks to the bathroom there was wall space to accommodate them. Lastly for the room though it had two pull out couches there was not adequate bedding for them provided. There were no fitted sheets at all and only two extra pillows. Again this room is supposed to accommodate 6 adults. We asked for what was needed and got it but it would save everyone time to simply provide what is needed to make the room live up to its occupancy rating. Moving on from the room I want to say every staff member we encountered was lovely. They were friendly, caring and helpful. My last issue was the pool. My kids were very excited to use the pool in the evenings but after trying it once I had to say no more. It was so gross. You could not see your feet at all in the shallow end even because the water was so hazy and dirty. It was pretty clear the filters were not running no output from the jets and no signs of intake either. Major yuck and health hazard. I notified the front desk of the state of the pool and was told that maintenance had been working on it earlier that day but nothing could be done at this time to correct the issue. Closing on a positive note breakfast each morning was pleasant. The area was kept very clean and restocked. Overall it was a good stay but I'm not sure I'd...
