Christmas 2023: Once again stayed at this hotel over the long Christmas weekend. Very quiet this time, big surprise is the new layout of the lobby dining area with "ultra modern" look, which I'm not a fan of, and the old fireplace was replaced with what looks like a reproduction sanitized installation. Also the dining area appears smaller, at least the breakfast offerings are up to par. Make no mistake the facility is staffed with friendly people. The rooms have all been redone top floor to street level. New carpeting and wallpaper in the hallways is an improvement. Still great location on the Genesee River, still plenty of parking area. See latest photos from this visit.
Christmas 2022: Once again visiting Staybridge Suites, happy to say it's still a great place to stay, and breakfast selections never disappoint.
Been staying here during visits to Rochester since they opened several years ago and it's always a pleasure. Located near the University of Rochester and the Hospital, set on the Genesee River, we always look forward to our return. Rooms have a suite arrangement with partition between bedroom and living/dining area, with fridge and microwave, and coffemaker. TV's are in both bedroom and living room area. Reasonable rate includes a good selection for breakfast in a bright airy dining area with fireplace, overlooking a bend in the Genesee River. There's an outdoor patio where you may dine. Breakfast includes fruit, eggs, meats, fresh made waffles, cereal, coffee, juices and all you could imagine. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday they have free evening snacks in the dining area, with wine and beer available. Staff are very friendly and cooperative. Always feels like arriving home when we arrive here! Abundant parking available, and there is an indoor pool, 24 hour pantry and an exercise room open 24 hours. There's a board game area with two computers for internet access. WIFI available, no charge. On a personal note if there's a snorer in the room, the couch is a pull out bed, and the partition allows the other a...
Read moreThe staff here deserve a raise.||I stayed here for 4 weeks on business whilst working with the university. ||Despite lots of renovation work going on and having to stay in a hotel for such a long period, the staff here made the whole experience a pleasure. ||They were always willing to go the extra mile if something wasn’t quite right and did so with a smile. ||Firstly, the gentleman with the AirPod in one ear (apologies for knowing your name) that attended the breakfast room every morning always had a ton of energy that boosted everyone’s mood and always went out of his way to clear room for people’s tables/give out cutlery and napkins.||The cleaners did a great job of visiting frequently and leaving the room immaculately clean and tidy, especially Erica.||Finally, Danielle at reception was an absolute star. Always welcoming and greeting every guest entering or leaving, even if extremely busy either on the phone or checking someone in, you could tell she really cares about her guests’ experience. |There were several instances I noticed throughout my stay where a potentially awkward/negative situation could have resulted had it not been for Danielle. For example, when there was a mix up with my room at the beginning of my trip through no fault of her own, she handled the situation with empathy and was extremely professional. She consistently went above and beyond to make sure every guest felt at home, despite often being the only member of staff on shift in the evenings. She is a credit to the hotel. ||My room was also a lot better than what it appeared on the website following the renovation (vanity unit, living furniture and well equipped kitchenette).||Some things I would change are:||- larger variety of food for breakfast (maybe some continental breakfast, avocado, grilled tomatoes, granola/muesli, etc. just to mix it up from traditional American).|- additional kitchen/washing items in the kitchenette (sponge, drying rack, proper chopping board). ||Thank you for the...
Read moreAfter settling in our room, it became known during the night that the toilet didn't work, the water did not fill the tank. We explained this to the front desk and was told there is no maintenance staff to look at it as they were off for the weekend and would not return until Monday. We asked for another room and was told none available. We were forced to remain in this room during our stay. After reviewing the issue, it was discovered that the cold water shutoff valve was malfunctioning. By turning it off then back on, the tank began to fill. This was reported to the front desk; again we were told no one could do anything until Monday. We had to stay in the room. Each time we used the toilet, we had to turn the water shutoff valve in order to get the tank filled.
This was not the only issue, the second day of our stay, we were carrying a lot of items returning to our room. After reaching the entry door, the room key did not work. I tried my wife's key which also did not work. Both card keys were kept separate of any other cards, phones and key fobs to prevent what did happen anyway. Carrying all our items back down to the front desk to ask for new keys, the clerk stated she could not get us keys as she doesn't have the authority to issue them. So she had another staff member come up to open the door for us. We couldn't risk leaving the room without the ability to get back in. Eventually, someone with authority arrived and new keys were issued.
Other than this extremely poor service, the room was comfortable and clean. But these two inactions by staff made our stay extremely uncomfortable and disappointing.
I am demanding a refund of all points spent on this stay, though it would be surprising if corporate actually refunds my points. Not particularly rewarding to me for being a loyal...
