I stayed at the Magnuson Fri, Jul 31-Mon, Aug 3rd. We specifically chose this hotel over the Lake Motel, which was significantly cheaper. We assumed that given the current pandemic situation, the extra money would be worth spending for a nicer cleaner stay. Cleanliess was EXTREMELY important to us, as we were in town to visit a sick relative. We arrived Friday night, checked in, and headed over to our room. We opened the door to the hallway and were immediately hit with the hottest, stale air which smelled of cigarettes. We walked up the stairs, which were covered in dirty, stained carpet. As we were walking in, I noticed a dog food trail leading up the stairs. We proceeded to our room with cleaning products to give everything a quick once over just to be safe. When we got into our room, we had do so a much deeper clean than expected. The headboards were covered in dust. The coffee maker was covered in dust and some sort of smudges of I'm not sure what. The tv had spots of something sticky all over it; it looked like someone had splashed a drink on it and it was never cleaned. The face cloth on the counter was stained. Clearly housekeeping isn't much of a priority. We thoroughly cleaned the room, stripped the bed, and replaced the linens with our own. We also had our own towels to use, though we did use the given bath mat. Saturday morning we headed out to spend the day with family. We put the "do not disturb" sign on the door, as we didn't want anyone coming in and possibly leaving unwanted germs. (As I mentioned, we were trying to keep the safest environment possible for our ill family member) The sign was ignored. Our room was entered, as evidenced by our open soap being thrown away and replaced and our bathmat being traded out with a "fresh" one. The "fresh" bath mat was also stained. When we returned around 9 pm, we were greeted by slamming doors and extraordinarily loud guests a few doors down. (Room 214 and 216...we were in room 220) this went on ALL NIGHT LONG. It was one group split between 2 rooms, going back and forth banging on doors, slamming doors, propping their doors open with the lock and blaring music, yelling through the doors. We finally called the front desk around 3 am. Someone came up and spoke with them, and while it quited down for a moment, it began again and did not stop until 5:45am. Sunday morning we left again and when we returned for the night our floor smelled horrible. It smelled like, well to be completely honest, a broccoli fart through the entire hallway. Regardless, all we wanted was a shower and a good night's sleep. The joke was on us though because around 2 am a family (below us, maybe) must have gotten to their room. Not quite as severe as the night before, but again, slamming doors, slamming things into walls, screaming kids (mind you, we travelled with our 2 children. These are noises I understand, but at 2 am, it's unacceptable) Pounding footsteps running up and down the hallways. We called the front desk again around 2:30-2:45. After we made the call, it did quiet down so I assume they had finally gone to sleep. The next morning we packed up our car. The hallway still smelled awful, and the dog food still remained in the stairwell. My husband went in to check out and was greeted by an unfriendly woman at the front desk. He said, "hi, I'm in room 220. I need to check out." And was told "ok, bye." As he turned to leave she said "by the way. I came up there last night and didn't hear a thing." Essentially, she called my husband a liar. Now, why would we, after being completely deprived of our first night's sleep, wake up at 2am to call the front desk to beg for them to quiet guests down? Doesn't that seem counterproductive? Overall, this has been the most displeasing experience I have ever had at a hotel. Not only will I never stay at this location again, but this has turned me off of the brand as a whole if this is how things are taken care of. I would never...
Read moreThe filthiest hotel room I have ever stayed in, and their solution was to have me spend more money. Look at these photos before you book.||Girlfriend and I checked in at about 530pm after a long day traveling. We were meeting some family for dinner so we quickly put our luggage in the room and left. Got back around 845. We then realized how disgusting the room was.||In the Bathroom- toiletries were open and used, literal grime on the shower floor, soap scum everywhere, drain plug of the sink left on the counter next to faucet with hair and more grime, used soap bar. exposed outlet from missing light switch.||In the bedroom- One of the bedside lamps didnt turn on, i realized it was unplugged. So i pulled out the nightstand a little to plug it back in. The chord had clearly been chewed by a rodent of some sort and the remnants still behind the nightstand. All this and just a general dirty feeling, gritty floor ect.||so at about 9pm I went to front desk to politely bring up that it seems our room may have not been cleaned properly and if we could switch rooms. The woman behind the counters initial very rude response was "can I ask why you're telling me this at 9pm when check in is at 3:30?". So I explained that we had gone to dinner, showed her the photos and then she realized how nasty the room was. This is where it really gets good. She very much acknowledged how gross the room was and went to see about switching rooms. ||But then she told me that because I had booked the room through a 3rd party travel site, that its not that easy and the only option was to rent out another room that night for over $100 so they could clean our room the next day and we could go back to ours to finish our stay. Are you kidding me? So their answer to me having an unclean room that was booked months in advance was to give me attitude and have me pay more?||To end our conversation I asked, "so to be clear you acknowledge that we have a dirty room but our only option to get a new room is to pay more money?". And to that she replied "yes my hands are tied, dont shoot the messenger". ||So after a long day of travel we stayed in a dirty room unable to use the shower that night or the next day.||Clearly a poorly run establishment with poorly trained staff, that dont care about the cleanliness of rooms or the comfort of their guests. Someone else very well mightve brought legal action especially if someone...
Read moreFind somewhere else to stay! I was thouroughly disapointed with our stay. Let's start with the fact that there are no elevators on the premises. Being a Senior citizen I was very unhappy with this alone. The charge of 219.00 was rediculous for our so-called suite. The room provided us with the bare minimum. No additional blankets or sheets. No comfortable seating, only a sofa and desk chair.
The bathroom does not have a sink. Instead there is one tiny sink with mirror on the outside of the room that separates the bedroom and the sitting area. So if your partner is a light sleeper, you'll probably wake them up if you have to wash in the middle of the night.
There were two flat screen tv's, one of which wasn't working so I spent my first night looking at a movie on my phone in an effort to not wake my husband. To their credit they did replace the tv the next day with a new tv. I learned that the tv in my daughters room, (she had a whole separate room) would not, for whatever reason, cut off.
I would call the room rather stark with no carpeting and no chair in the bedroom. There was a small balcony that offered a view of the lake but it also overlooked a crowded swimming pool. When trying to sit on the balcony at night it was loaded with every kind of spider that I think God ever made. They were in the cobwebs that should have been swept away overhead and below. You could not turn off the outdoor light and the light from the swimming pool shone brightly into the room. They do, however, provide black out curtains.
The only icemaker that I personally knew of was all the way at the other end of the building on, yet again, the first floor. There was a tiny fridge in the room with no ice. The continental breakfast was rather sub-par in my humble opinion with the best thing being the waffle maker.
On the morning of check-out, I found that the wi-fi password that they had given me was already disabled at 7:00 a.m. in the morning. Check-out was not until 11:00 a.m. I found this to be rather premature.
In short, it seemed that everyone in our group had some sort of issue with their room. We, however, were able to rent a conference room for our family reunion meet and greet that had a lovely view of the lake. These are just my experiences. Someone elses could have been better. Just beware if you plan to stay more...
