So as somebody from a decent sized city in the Midwest traveling for work in what I would call "the middle of nowhere, Appalachia" I never had high hopes of great food being an option. Well I was wrong. Being where I'm from, I'm used to "hole in the wall" places having great food because it's easy and inexpensive to source fresh ingredients for anything. I knew that in the middle of a mountain range that farms are not abundant and that usually translates to lesser quality restaurants in the area. And that is something I experienced first hand with other places around there. When you walk in, you get typical great Southern hospitality. This is still awkward to me (the Midwest is still known for it's politeness) but it's the normal way of being around here even though it feels 'over the top' to me. The place looks like an old diner from the 80's or 90's with either super basic chairs and tables or some old booths that feel original to the building. When I looked at the menu, I thought I was going to get some standard pub food and that was it. Boy I was wrong. The first sign I knew I was wrong was hearing the kitchen operate behind me. Communicating about what tickets came up and calling out what was dropping in to be cooked. Second was seeing other people's food. The burgers I saw come out of the kitchen were just huge and very well plated. Nothing I haven't seen before but surprising given my first impressions. What I ordered was the fried catfish with hush puppies and fries with a side of coleslaw. I'm not familiar with what a "good" hush puppy is but it seemed slightly dense and slightly dry but once again, I have no idea how it's supposed to be. The coleslaw tasted nice and light while having the right amount of sauce. The fries were good by my standards. Crispy, medium thickness and well seasoned. But the catfish was a wow moment for me. The batter wasn't super thin like I'm used to, it was thick and had a good amount of seasoning to it. I felt like there was salt, pepper, and a hint of what I would call "Cajun" seasoning. It was the right amount of flavor to also let you know you were eating catfish and not just some basic fish product. The next couple days I ordered some of their daily specials and some desserts and have been answered by everything. They had a chipotle chicken wrap that was actually fresh and not over-sauced that was prepared by somebody who actually cared about the fact that the tortilla can actually make a difference. The next night I had the Ribeye Oscar and everything was perfect. Real crab meat was used which you can't take for granted anymore along with the steak being perfectly medium rare as I asked for. I don't know who is coming up with the daily specials or who is in charge of playing and making everyone look the way it does on the plate but whomever they are, they are doing an amazing job and I can't recommend this...
Read moreFirst off let me say that if I look on here for advice I expect the truth. So, therefore, I feel that I should be as honest as I can. We chose Pizza Pub because their rating was a little higher than the other places my husband looked up. The service was good. We didn't run out of drinks and our waitress was friendly. When we walked in the floor was slippery. The lights were very dim, and there was an old stale smell. I ordered the Crabmeat salad because I had never had it before. The lettuce and tomatoes were not as fresh as they could have been, but overall the flavor was good. My son got the Chicken Parmesan sub which came with chips. The chicken appeared to be a processed patty and the chips appeared to have been poured from a bag of chips. My husband got the stromboli and it was great. He also ordered the Potato skins for an appetizer which was in fact a sliced, deep fried potato with bacon and mozarella cheese which was good but NOT potato skins. This is kind of misleading. I understand that Covid has changed a lot of things, but it did not meet my expectation of a 4.5...
Read moreYou need to eat here right away! This restaurant is a completely different experience than it was 2 or 3 years ago, and it is fantastic. I had lunch here last week and went back tonight to make sure it wasn't a fluke. Nope. The food was fantastic. The service was fantastic. Everything was clean and just wonderful. The Food Manager/Chef (Mike) came out to ask how everything was. Tiffany (wait staff) repeatedly checked that all was well. Tonight, we had catfish sandwiches and homemade potato chips. Folks, the food was fabulous. I wish I knew how they can make potato chips that delicious and completely grease-free. Awesome. The catfish was fresh, perfectly cooked. Even though it was a sandwich, the catfish sub came with hushpuppies--seemed odd until we tasted them. Again, perfect hushpuppies. Our meals were perfectly balanced. Honestly, we can't wait to come back and try the desserts. No room for them tonight! This is such a wonderful place to have in Clarksville. And guess what?! Open on...
