We've been coming to Suncadia for years and have rented houses, townhomes, and the lodge many times. My most recent stay Labor Day weekend has me on the lookout for a new resort destination, however. We stayed in the lodge in a river view one-bedroom unit. The very first thing we noticed was that carpet in the bedroom had been pulled up and had a huge ripple down the length of the room. I tripped over it several times throughout the weekend. The bed frame was also not attached to the headboard and the screws that hold it together appeared to be missing. The hall light would not turn on the first day and then mysteriously turned on the second. The lights in the bathroom as so dim that there is no hope of putting on your makeup in that room. Every moving part of the room was rickety and falling apart. Examples include the magnifying makeup mirror was wobbling and barely attached to its stem, the iron scroll work on the living room lamps were just dangling in space unattached from the lamp, and the worst offender - the doorknob wasn't even attached. We had to call the front desk for that one. They had to take the stripped screws out and entirely replace them. And there’s more. The dryer turned on but did not tumble making it useless, the kitchen had exactly one kitchen towel, and both the oven and dishwasher were filthy. I know why they were filthy; housekeeping doesn’t clean this room. We checked in on Friday and Saturday came and went with no housekeeping (no, we didn’t have a do not disturb sign on the door). On Sunday afternoon we saw housekeeping a couple of doors down from our room and they were chatting that they were on their last room. Our room hadn’t been touched. I asked them directly if they had come down my side of the hall and they admitted they hadn’t. I told the woman that I hadn’t had housekeeping for two days and she reluctantly came to do our room. She was nice enough, but I shouldn’t have to ask for housekeeping especially when they are on my floor. Why are they skipping rooms? Additionally, there were sunflower seed shells in the hallway the entire weekend. At no point did housekeeping vaccum the hallway.
When not in the room we visited the Hoisthouse restaurant which was fine. The drinks there were good. The lobby bar on the other hand is awful. Only go there if you are drinking wine. They served me a French 75 with flat sparkling wine and way too much lemon. It was not drinkable. The second day I asked for a Mint Julep, which is an item on their seasonal menu, and the bartender had no idea how to make it and entirely made it the wrong way. We also visited the pool. The place was filthy with wet paper stuck to the floors and wet food and napkins in the lawn. You have to ask for towels when you come in and if you want to take a shower you have to ask for more towels at the front desk. Why not put towels in the locker room like a regular hotel pool? The pool showers were also not clean and they had exactly one hairdryer for the women’s locker room. The vanity mirror had a burned out lamp so again, the lighting was too dim for makeup.
Suncadia, what is happening? Why are you going downhill? Are you only investmenting in the houses you build and not in the lodge? You...
Read moreI will start off by saying my husband and I have loved Suncadia and have looked forward to our annual visits for several years. We were unable to visit last year and we felt like things have really been falling apart since.
The good side of Suncadia is the people who work there. I did have issues with service once in the past, but this time around everyone was so sweet especially Woody the shuttle driver! He’s the best. Anytime we asked a member of the staff for anything they were kind and promptly fulfilled our request.
The disappointing side, and reason we will probably not be returning anymore, was the quality of the resort. This includes its rooms (maintenance and cleanliness), amenities, restaurant/bar, and value of how much you’re spending vs what you get.
We paid extra for a 1 bedroom because we have a baby and wanted the extra space for when she had to go to bed. The room was nice a spacious but was dirty and not maintained at all. The carpet had big stains everywhere, the lamps all had cob webs and spider webs, the blinds we dusty, the robe I almost used had long black hair all inside (I’m blonde - clearly was not changed), the pack and play provided was broken on the bottom and they did not provide sheets (thankfully I thought to bring one just in case because it was gross), our first showers there the water pooled up because it was clogged, then I went to brush my teeth and the sink was clogged, the freezer was dirty, the outdoor furniture was run down. It was just seemed like there was no care put into it whatsoever. And that room is NOT CHEAP. My sister stayed next door and got a 1 bedroom with a hot tub (even more $) and it was even worse. Things were literally falling apart. Pieces of their hottub were just floating to the surface while we were in it and they had this weird blue foam mattress topper that looked so cheap.
My husband and I were SO sad to hear (for the first time while trying to swim, not before or around the time of booking) that one whole pool got taken away from resort guests. It was our favorite pool and we were looking forward to using it. Instead, all the resort guests had to cram into the pool and wellness center or the tiny pool in back of the resort. The pool grounds seemed un cared for as there were big mud spots and grass was uneven. Some of the umbrellas were missing pins or falling apart. The kiddie pool was dirty.
We got breakfast at the Source restaurant and it was awful. My husband got a regular breakfast and the potatoes were burnt and overall taste was not good. I ordered a vegetarian meal and they made it wrong and admitted it when I brought it back. Thankfully the host who took the order was so sweet and they took it off our bill. We ordered drinks at one point and it was $42 for both of them and we didn’t like either.
We really aren’t super picky, but when you’re spending almost $2000 for a 3 night stay, you at least would like a clean room and well maintained amenities and sleeping conditions!
Unfortunately we will not be recommending Suncadia anymore as we did before. It’s unfortunate that a beautiful place has gone...

This is the most horrible New Year's Eve I've ever had. When we arrived late afternoon on New Year's Eve, I spent 20 minutes driving around the self parking lot and it was full. I went to the front desk and I was firstly told I will be offered valet parking for free. Then a manager came in and told me no way, I had to either use the overpriced and slow valet or use the overflow parking lot. After I parked in the overflow parking lot, I found that it's covered with ice. My car was sliding in the parking lot, not to mention to walk out of it. The pedestrian walk back to the hotel is not plowed, so you need to walk on the ice-covered open road. This is a SERIOUS issue. Walking AT NIGHT on narrow DRIVEWAY with BLIND CURVE in a SNOWY day on SLIPPERY SURFACE. That's the recipe for FATAL accidents. The cars were just passing along us and we had to stop to give the car enough room to pass! I complaint to the front desk again, and they were just forcing me to buy the valet parking. How can they do that when they couldn't offer enough parking space and maintain the overflow parking lot? The manager admitted that it's fairly dangerous and not an 'ideal' situation but refused to help us. I guess he showed that this hotel is definitely not for an ideal stay.
Other than that there's much more to complain during my stay. Do not think of this place as a Hyatt hotel. Firstly, there's no greetings to Hyatt elite members, nor any member benefits. No bottled waters or coupons, and when I asked for possible 'complimentary' upgrades, the front desk lady brought a notebook and was checking the price - with obvious availability, she was asking me to pay the price difference! They clearly didn't not what the 'complimentary' mean. Also late check-out, don't even think about it. I asked twice on the night before departure, all they said was you need to call in the morning. That's fine. I called that morning and you know the answer: we do not offer late check-out because someone is precisely checking-in at your room! This is just absurd. They have lots of vacant room and some one must check-in at my ordinary room. Wow. I also called Hyatt later to provide feedback but you know they will never reach out to me.
The trail and view was actually fine, but I'm not grateful for that after paying $500/night for a basic room-that was what I deserved. The front desk didn't even want to spare a minute to go thru the entire resort, even though there were no guests in queue, and just left us to figure out by ourselves.
Lastly, the room condition was bad. Upon arriving we found some small plastic particles on our carpet and our dog was just about to swallow them. I didn't even bring this up to the hotel, since we all know they don't care about the lives of their guests, how can you expect them to care about your dogs (maybe just livestock from their...
