Our stay at the hotel was miserable. The Clinton Inn promised it would “deliver a unique and memorable experience,” and we’ll surely never forget the disappointment. It really comes down to the customer service being non-existent and the building being filthy and poorly maintained.
Customer Service
This hotel costs $200 a night, but doesn’t have staff available for long sections of the day and has no one available to take phone calls. Have a problem? Sorry, there’s no one in the building and no one you can call on the phone. You’ll need to text the phone number tastelessly taped to the front door, and it will take up to 20 minutes to an answer you.
When I had a problem during my stay on the morning of my wedding and needed to get in touch with staff for assistance, it took me over an hour of slow back-and-forth texts to get the phone number of someone who was available to help over the phone. If you plan on staying here, you’re going to need to fend for yourself. Rather than a hotel, imagine something more like an AirBnB, but with even worse customer assistance.
Aesthetic and Maintenance
There is some real sleight of hand happening with this place’s marketing versus the actual experience. They describe their building as “quaint”but what they really mean is “in a horrid state of disrepair.” There is a massive split in the front door where sunlight peaks through. Many walls and ceilings are damaged or shoddily patched. Paint stains and dirt cover the musty carpets. Historic tile, rather than being at all repaired, is pockmarked by decades of damage and a thick layer of dirt. As you walk up their centerpiece staircase, you can observe paint splattered across each step from some unprofessional hack’s best attempt at restorative painting.
When you walk into the lobby, you’ll be greeted by advertisement banners, one featuring the “romance package” prominently displays handcuffs. There is just no account for class or taste here. What an absurdly uncouth and base advertisement in a place that claims itself as a “charming getaway.”
This place is best avoided, and It’s a shame because if they started providing customer service (especially a way to get in touch for an emergency), and invested in some restoration (or, you know, just mopping?) this could be a cute place to stay. At over $200 per night, it’s an...
Read moreWe had an event in nearby Saline on a Saturday afternoon and decided to spend the night in the general area instead of heading back home. We had passed by the Clinton Inn many times in the past and were curious about it. We read the descriptions and limited reviews online and decided it would be nice to stay in one of their recently renovated rooms. What could go wrong? Well.... It took quite a while to check in. We waited in the less than inviting check in area under the stairs (picture included). Eventually somebody came down the stairs from the second floor to check us in. They were wearing a knit hat and a winter coat. I thought it odd, but later realized they probably had to wear that to stay warm. The building has steam heat, but the radiators we touched on the second floor where we stayed remained cold throughout our visit. We eventually found an electric heater in the closet and used that to keep the room warm (pic included). The king size bed was clearly relatively new as was the large screen TV on the wall. Both of those were the highlights of the renovation as far as we were concerned (more likely the only things that had been updated). You can look at our pictures to see some of the other highlights of our stay. I did not include any pictures of the shower that still had goodies left behind after the previous occupants checked out. And there was no way to show exactly how nasty tasting the water was. Having grown up on well water, I have no issues with most water sources, but this was truly bad. We had breakfast in the attached restaurant and I made sure to taste the water with the meal. It was just fine. Either they serve bottled water or there is some greater issue in the hotel section of the complex. Overall, the Clinton Inn has a lot of promise. At the moment, it is a long way from becoming that go to...
Read moreMy husband and I had dinner here a few nights ago, and were pleasantly surprised. We used to eat here years ago (under the previous owners) and loved it. However, both the food and service became very hit or miss, and after one too many bad experiences we didn't return. So we were excited when we learned that the Clinton Inn was under new ownership.
To be honest we were pretty apprehensive this time around. We were promptly greeted and seated. Our waitress was nice, but didn't know the answer to several of our questions about the food. To her credit she offered to check with the kitchen, which she did. This might sound nit piketty, but our table was covered with an extremely thin paper covering, and it quickly became soaking wet from our sodas and ice water. Owners may want to rethink coverings, as it seemed chincy and like something you'd see in a cafeteria.
We split a side salad, which was nice and fresh and had a pretty good house made ranch dressing. Not sure why it took 1/2 an hour for our entrees to arrive, especially since there were so few other diners. (It was early on a Saturday evening and there were only 2 other tables. ) Thankfully we loved our meals, I had grilled shrimp skewers which were good, and they came with green beans that were excellent. The best part of the meal were the red skin mashed potatoes, they were delish!! My husband had the sirloin steak and he loved it and said it was really good. We split a piece of key lime pie for dessert. It was good, nothing outstanding, think it probably wasn't house made.
All in all we had a good experience. We like supporting small town businesses and will definately be back. We wish the new...
