Our first impression was that it seemed weird a hotel was at the end of a street with no other businesses--only houses. Having used an online service to book our room, check-in and check-out were rather quick. We were surprised that parking was across the street in a gravel lot, rather than in a paved lot. When we first got in our room, we thought it was cool to have a view of the river and see trains going by behind it. It was not so cool at night, though, when we tried to sleep. It seemed like 50 or more trains went through--and they were noisy, from the cars bumping to the engines blowing their horns repeatedly. My grandchild thought all the noise from the trains was a storm coming through, so we didn't get much sleep at all. The room was very clean and smelled fresh. The bathroom had an adequate supply of towels, as well as soap and shampoo dispensers in the shower, soap and a box of tissues on the counter, and a hair dryer below the counter. One annoying thing was the sliding door on the bathroom--not only did it not have a lock on it for privacy, but the rollers were rather loud and kept waking people during the night, when someone had to get up to use the bathroom (the door was also hard for a child to open). I opted to sleep in the upholstered chair in the room, as I cannot sleep in a flat bed and did not want to sit up in a bed all night, while someone else was lying flat next to me. I found the chair to be very uncomfortable, as it was on the hard side (a recliner would have been nice--or a softer chair with a footstool to put my feet on while sleeping, as the end of the bed was too high to prop my feet up on). The pool was small but nice. The chairs around it did not feel very sturdy for our larger guests to sit in. I believe I saw a washer and dryer near the pool, a room with kayaks and bicycles to rent, and a room with gym equipment. The continental breakfast was so-so, in my opinion. The cooked eggs tasted like powdered eggs, and the sausage links were tolerable. There was a belgian waffle maker with two types of batter available. There were also small muffins, bagels, mini donuts, and bread; boiled eggs, two brands of yogurt, fresh fruit (apples, oranges, and bananas), and 3 types of dry cereal in dispensers (I believe it was raisin bran, fruit loops, and one other). There may have been other foods, but those are the main ones I remember. If you are into eating lots of carbs, you would probably enjoy the breakfast. As for me, I prefer more protein that is real, hot, and tasty--real scrambled eggs with cheese, ham, pork sausage, bacon, etc.). Beverages available were white milk, almond milk, coffee, and juice (I believe). Down the hall, there are vending machines where you can find an assortment of other foods and beverages (if you didn't like what was available for the free continental breakfast) and you can self-check-out with a credit card. The soft drinks were $2.22 each, but I don't know what anything else cost. Weather permitting, there are chairs and tables outside to enjoy your food at, while looking at the river and watching the...
Read moreClean, comfortable lodging just off the Great Allegheny Passage - C&O Canal Trail on the West Side of Connellsville. The inn is located on the banks of the Youghiogheny River and just across the river from active railroad tracks. The inn has rooms on its rear side which face the river and train tracks. Rooms on the front face away from the river and tracks. Having grown up with the soothing click-click of railcars running over tracks, I highly prefer the rooms on the rear.
The hall carpet on the upper floors may seem a little off-putting. I've concluded that it's clean, but just a somewhat unfortunate choice of dingy colors.
The inluded breakfast has a meat (bacon or sausage), freshly scrambled eggs, DIY waffles and syrup, oatmeal packets, cold cereals, toast, bagels, English and cake-style muffins (and toasters), jellies, cream cheese, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, milk, juices and fresh fruit. Coffee and tea are available throughout the day and evening. A staff person is present during breakfast to keep the foods resupplied.
Their is a nice municipal park with playground equipment and picnic tables and pavlions adjacent to the inn's property. The GAP runs just at the opposite edge of this park.
The breakfast seating area is available for socializing 24/7 with some board games available. There is a nice outdoor patio with tables and chairs along the river just outside the breakfast area.
One suggestion I would have is that the inn add a menu for Meidel's restaurant to the food resource notebook in the lobby. Meidel's is a longtime Connellsville family style restaurant particularly known for its ham barbecue sandwiches. If you're not familiar with Connellsville and wish to drive from the inn to Meidel's, use your GPS. The route is a bit convoluted due to the wash out of a small bridge awhile back. Your GPS will get you there if you follow it's directions carefully, especially with regard to a sharp right turn off route PA19.
Thanks for coming to Connellsville, Comfort Inn. It's good to know you're there when I want to visit family...
Read moreNot a place to stay at if you are looking for quiet. Woke up to what sounded like a washing machine on its final spin - at 8am. The walls are super thin. You can hear and feel the door shut from down the hall and from the floor above and below you. You can’t get the front desk to answer the phone; the one time I asked if she was really busy she had the phone ringer down low. Bigfoot lives here on the third floor with his Little Feet. You can hear them alright- especially when most people are sleeping at 11pm. Linens look sketch too. I took the bed sheets off as they had a dingy smell to them and had some questionable ‘stains’ on the duvets. Usually it’s a sign that the linen on the floor means that new ones are to be used in place of. But later that evening I came back with the same sets put right back on the beds so I had to ask the front desk lady to issue me two clean sets. BTW-Housekeeping goes home by 12:30pm (around the time we get ready to roll out) so I set out my trash and ask for clean towels from the front desk if I can find her. Also the tub drain isn’t clogged up as to make the water go down super slow- it’s the strainer that’s full. One of the housekeeping ladies pointed that out and scraped out what was there with her bare fingers and tossed it in the toilet. Yep, hopefully she washed her hands before handing the next room cause she didn’t wash them before she left. Nice lady though. Tip: Good luck finding hotel parking on the weekend when the recreational river drifters come out to play. Also this hotel got on the local news because a 35yo man lured three minors (12 & 13 yo) into his car and took them here for whatever he paid them to do. There’s a safe to keep your valuables in and the fridge and microwave work well- internet connection not so well though. This is the best your gonna get for the price you pay to stay within a 30-mile radius- they won a few awards for...
