My Mom and my experience was not great. We had called to make reservations and was told to go thru the Website which we did. We chose the weekend and we asked that there would be some consideration for a person with a gluten allergy. The picture of the farm was a picture that looked like it was in the middle of no where (what we were looking for ) on so many acres, lots of fields...open space.(quaint) We arrived, the "Inn" was right on Rt 16..we had booked one of the rooms in the main house and was immediately asked to go across to the row of rooms that looked like a motel. We asked that we be in the main house .We were given room #111.The room was not warm as the little stove in the room had not been started in time to warm the room. There was no back up heat. We were told by the maintenance man that they had had an earlier problem of frozen pipes in that room and the heat had not gotten up to speed yet. We sat in 2 chairs around the stove until we went out to dinner. Later that night it did warm up. Our view out our bedroom windows was a dumpster. The mattresses were very comfortable which was very nice. Thank you. Next morning (the web had said that the breakfasts were great) we went down to breakfast and it was a continental breakfast. The worse continental breakfast. The fruit consisted of an apple or an orange. There was dry cereal or packaged oatmeal. The coffee was fine. The orange juice was from a carton. There were home made muffins. Nothing gluten free,....at all. I had an apple, coffee and orange juice. We spoke with the manager there (she was new there) and she seemed genuinely concerned and wanting to do better. Unfortunately the next morning was exactly the same. I had hoped that there might be some gluten free bread for toast since we had just talked and this person told me she understood since her Mom was gluten free. The dining area was very cold and dingy. There was no warmth, tables and chairs that looked like they belonged in a sports pub. Yuck is the only word I can think of.
Suggestions would be :....consider better lighting, tables that better fit a farm of that era, do something with the bare walls, better food choices and HEAT!!
I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. We will not come back
What I would consider is being asked to redecorate that dining area and having better food choices and getting some heat in there. A stove would be cozy. The girl in the kitchen just stood there. She did not smile and seemed very depressed.
This was very disappointing to myself and my Mom as we do not get away much and when we do we like to have some comforts.
I have read the other reviews about great breakfasts and wonderful hosts . All these reviews were written before this place changed owners.(I was told by the manager it changed owners in December) I believe the web site has not been updated as well as the information about breakfasts are wrong.
There are new TVs. If you drive out back there is a pile of all the old TVs in the snow.
If you are looking for a quaint inn with warmth and ambience, this is not it. If you enjoy a breakfast, this is not it as well. If you enjoy being warm, you will not...
Read moreFirst let me preface this review by stating that I have been coming to Merrill Farm Inn since I was 19 and I'm in my 40's now. I experienced it with the original owners and after with the new owners. Like anything, there are changes both good and bad. ||Lets start with the good: The function room is now being utilized. Such a beautiful room that previously just sat there not being used. Great to see it open. They kept the afternoon cookie time which has always been a nice touch. Staff is still very friendly. ||Now the not so great: They changed the continental breakfast to sit-down, pre-paid breakfast. Doesn't even start until 8 which isn't good if you want to be up and out early. The menu is a set menu with sub-par food. Eggs were blah, pancakes flat and you couldn't change anything. And the service is beyond slow! I'd rather pay for breakfast with good food and good service. It would be nice to have a flexible menu or bring back a buffet style so you can choose what you want. What would really be great is if they brought back the homemade muffins and continental breakfast back in the room upstairs off of the check-in area like it used to be. ||They have upgraded the furniture with way to modern looking pieces and just doesn't fit the decor. This place used to have such a country charm and hominess to it and that is just gone now. Some of the upgrades just seem half assed and look worse than leaving it the way it was. ||The daily cleaning wasn't great. Didn't check TP and roll was empty. Had to ask for new towels.||They should be embarrassed to advertise they have a hot tub. Over half the jets don't work and there was mold in the one inside. The one by the pool is completely broken. With what they charge they should be able to upgrade both. Or just remove them completely.||The pool needs upgrading as well. Not properly cleaned or maintained. The stairs down to the river are an accident waiting to happen. Yes its all fine and dandy you have warning signs but do better. Fix them and make it safe. ||I feel like the bare minimum is done. Just enough to look good on the outside. As long as they get their money. The original owners had pride in their property. May have not been the latest and greatest but at least it was maintained properly and cared for.||It is sad to see this place change for the worse in my opinion. I could pay the same amount somewhere else and have a cleaner pool or a hot tub that works and is...
Read moreThe merrill Inn is your typical run of the mill "Inn" and nothing more. It is not a resort, it is not a hotel, what you pay for is what you get. It is an outdated, easily accessible rest stop on a busy road along the saco. It does have some of that cute, quaint country charm, but it's nothing to write hone about. Our room was nice, but the bed was absolutely painful to sleep on. The mattress had springs and felt like it had been there for over 30 years. It was decently clean. The thing I appreciated most about the room was the jacuzzi tub. However also outdated, it was the best part of the stay. The staff were very friendly, and the cleaning crew came by every day. Now onto the resturant. I would absolutely NOT eat here if you can avoid it at all costs. The restaurant is run by young adults that hardly speak English. The wait times, brutal! We waited over an hour and a half for breakfast just to be disappointed in the "gluten free" soggy pancakes and microwaved bacon. If you go for dinner, do not expect anything better. They advertise fancy upscale foods like ratatouille, prime rib, etc but they execute these dishes like a fast food resturant. Ratatouille is supposed to be a variety of garden vegetables over rice however, when I recieved my plate it was nothing but fried eggplant slices with pasta sauce over it. AND they have thr audacity to charge over $30 a plate!!!! My husband and I couldn't believe it. We dropped $100 for two meals that I would give 0 stars if I could and two alcoholic beverages. Stay away and bring your own food! There are plenty of better resturants in the area. Lastly, the pool was outdated by 30 years and paint was chipping from the inside. We did not even attempt to use the amenities as they were so very out dated. Although the "farm" stay was not as I had hoped and not as advertised online, we still enjoyed our weekend. Would I come back? Maybe, but i would pay for a better room and I would not eat there even if...
