"Hi, I'd like a room please." "Ok, wait a minute." Five minutes later, "Let me see your ID. And your card." "Do you offer a military discount?" "It's $50." "Is that with the military discount?" "Yes, $56 total, we are the cheapest in town." I sigh, the sign outside advertises $49.99 and up. "We are the cheapest in town," the owner repeats. I'm thinking: I know your the cheapest, I'm ok with that, I know what that entails, but I don't think $56 includes a military discount. And I'm not upset because I didn't get one, just don't say your giving me a discount if your not. So I pay. I know the room is subpar, but it's close to my destination. I get my room key, drive to the room, unlock the door, and walk in. The air conditioner is off making the room even hotter than the 85 or so degrees outside. So I turn on the A/C unit and wait. I'm literally dripping sweat while I wait for the room to cool. On one side of the room there's a door locked with a chain on my side. On the other side is, I'm assuming, the hotel office since it seems from the parking lot to be right next to it. It's eerie, I keep feeling that I'm being monitored or listened to from the other side. So I play some music at a reasonable volume. The room cools after an hour or so. The bedding is stiff with starch, and now sticky because of me. It oddly smells like cat pee. The bathroom is ok, but there's cracks along the tub, on the floor and up the walls and I can't help to think about the bugs that move in and out of the room unrestricted. There's no shampoo but only one tiny, single serving "Face and Body" bar of soap. Oh, and no tissue. On my little room key envelope is written the Wifi access code. The envelope is worn and reused. I try to connect to the internet, no access. I click to connect to their network. After a moment, I'm connected. I open the internet, still no connection. I search for a place to input the code. I never found one and gave up, so I was constrained to use my own mobile internet. Then why advertise "Free Wifi"? Whatever... Overall, I slept ok. I woke up at 4 am, three hours before my alarm clock, I was afraid that I had been awaken by bedbugs so I get up and look for them. It seems to be clear of them. It was cold because I turned up the A/C, which is probably in great working order because it doesn't get used when no one is in the room. The shower temperature was great, no need for fumbling back and forth to get it just right. I only wish that I wasn't told I was getting a discount when I wasn't, and I needed wifi access to do some work, which never happened. Personally, I wouldn't stay here again, I guess I could drive the extra 4 or 5 miles to a big chain hotel and only pay about 9 or 10 bucks more for a better room, but this marginally inferior establishment is "the...

I recently stayed at Kingsway Inn for a business trip with my family, and while the experience had its ups and downs, there were some definite highlights.

First, the location is absolutely unbeatable—right in the heart of downtown, within walking distance to major restaurants, shops, and the conference center I was attending. Navigating around the city was a breeze, and my family really appreciated being so close to the main attractions. Full marks for location—5 stars without a doubt.

The hotel itself is impressively high-tech. From keyless entry to voice-activated room controls, everything felt modern and futuristic. The lighting, temperature, and even the coffee maker in the room responded to a few taps on a tablet—my kids thought it was straight out of a sci-fi movie. It’s definitely the kind of place that makes you feel like you’re living in the future.

Our room was clean and spacious enough for the family, with thoughtful amenities like USB charging ports and smart TVs. The decor was sleek and modern, though I’d say it’s functional rather than cozy—3 stars. It’s perfect if you like minimalism and tech, but if you’re hoping for a plush, homey feel, it might fall a bit flat.

Service was surprisingly solid. Staff were friendly, responsive, and went out of their way to answer questions and help with directions. Our requests were handled promptly, and check-in was smooth. I especially appreciated the front desk recommending some family-friendly spots nearby—it made navigating the city much easier. 4 stars here.

That said, the overall experience didn’t quite hit the mark for me personally. Despite the amazing location and tech-forward vibe, the hotel felt a bit impersonal, and I missed some of the warmth you’d get from a more traditional property. Considering everything, I’d give it 2 stars overall—good for business travelers or tech enthusiasts, but maybe not the best choice for a family looking for...

These are the meanest, nastiest, rude people in the motel business.||||First, when I arrive at 4pm to check in, there was NO ONE in the office. I rang the service bell several times. I even called the front desk from my cell phone. NO ANSWER.||||Secondly, the rooms are what you would expect in central Texas for $39.99. Pathetic.||||Third, when I finally was able to check in, I opened the door to my room, I dropped the plastic "key" and bent it. After settling in, I walked back up to the front desk to get another one. The lady there said, "I charge you $1.00 for replacement." I said I had never heard of such a thing. She said, "I have to charge you. I must pay for card reader."||||Next, they advertise as "pet friendly". THEY ARE NOT! I was by myself but a friend came over and brought his four month old dog with him. Dog is fully house trained and well-behaved. To be honest, my buddy had a bit much to drink and fell asleep. The dog was perfectly well behaved. ||When I went to get coffee from the pathetic little breakfast bar they had, the mean woman in a head scarf said, "You have dog in room?". I said yes and explained my friends visit. She says, "I charge you $15 for pet. Dog must leave". When I reminded her that she shows her motel to be "pet friendly", she says (not making this up}, "NOT FOR A WEEK!!!". ||||I could go on but this place is awful. All kinds of drug and prostitution going...
