We arrived late in the afternoon around 9 pm. at first was taken aback but quickly realized the charm of the place. The rooms were clean, the back patio is a peaceful place to enjoy a cup of coffee as you listen to the small steam babble past the straight line pipe which enter the stream, I'm certain it is only grey waste from the home ajacent. We booked through travelocity, which was a mistake, just call them. Though our arrival was later than planned, we kept in touvh with them as we made our way there inorder to ensure a room. We arrived to an unmanned desk with a number to call, which was an added charm. My son and I were entertained by local charm of the community noting the covered bridge just next to the hotel/Inn. I digress, we called the number and was greeted by an overly pleasant man named Joe, who reported that he was out getting some food up the street. Joe soon arrived with a husky in tow, very nice dog. Joe assisted us in completing the arrangements. It took a little longer than expected which was ok. The entertainment that was provided by Joe was reassuring. Joe had obviouse retrieved his supper from the local taproom up the street. We were regailed with stories of wrong doing and appologies as Joe kept repeating the same questions and at one point seemed to be frustrated that we could not speak loud enough for him to understand . That was OK, noting the hearing aide and the repeated questions thinking that we were not answering was surely a result of hearing loss. The entertainment continued as Joe stumbled around the back of the desk trying to get us a room, which was reserved and verified, but there was unfortunatley no evidence that we were to stay there. Joe found us a room which was 106 while the entertainment continued for a half an hour or so , joe realized that 106 was a King room, one bed etc, the inference that my son and I were potential lovers was so amuzing, given Joe state of inebriation. After assuring Joe that we were in town to visit the university he became more acceptable and less disgruntled and found a room that we had requested, which was a "Queen", Joe noted with a chuckle which gave me the oprotunity to identify Joes drink of choice. (It had two queen beds}. After completing the transaction in only 45 minutes we went up the street to find the only place to get food after 9 pm was the same pubroom that Joe had came from. They were vry nice in the pubroom and all the patrons knew Joe, apparently he visits there often. The Owner/Manager, of the grill reported the grill had shut down but was kind enough to prepare some food for use after so many hours on the road. It was a great life experience for me and my son. I would recommend this pace to anyone who likes adventure, intrigue with a hint of danger that puts you on gusrd while interacting with the staff at night. We felt safe and secure the entire time we were there. The strangers just hanging out in front did not bother us at all. This being said my son and I are very well versed in self defense and both of us were concealinig very large weapons, we never shared that with Joe nor the strangers outside because they may have mistaken our intentions of just wanting to go to sleep. I highly recomend this place just make sure you have the patience of Job (from the Bible) and make sure you are liscensed to carry a concealed weapon. Thanks for the...

I am a little torn writing this review. The service was great. The front desk was super responsive and always friendly and smiling. Also, at the front desk you could grab a bottle of water on the house, free of charge which I found to be a nice touch. The location is good as this whole area is pretty remote, yet this Inn is close to Middlesboro, KY, as well as Harrogate, TN, and more, making it very centrally located. There are not many hotels/motels in the area. The only reason I gave this Inn 3 stars is because the rooms need some repairs and a little love. Having said that, the room was very clean, and the beds were comfortable and pillows plentiful. Also, the heater worked great! And the shower had plenty of hot water. The location and room worked great for us. The outside area is all very clean. Oh, I almost forgot to mention that the rooms have a mini fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. The cons were mostly aesthetic: The room needed some repairs in the tub and paint repairs on the walls. The walls are thin, so noise is heard from outside or above and next door. Nevertheless, most seem to be cognizant of this and kept the volume down for the most part. Lastly, the room did NOT have a safe. Please note, none of the cons kept us from enjoying our stay here, and the front desk employees were a big part of that welcoming feeling. We would stay here again any time we come to visit family in the area. Thank you for the...

No stars. We checked into the hotel after driving all day and they did not have the room available that we reserved so they put us in another room. There was no night stand in the room with the stuff that would have been on the night stand laying on the bed. Second the tv did not work at all so we had to go through 45 mins of them trying to hook up another tv. The owner was telling us what a wonderful hotel they had and they were full all summer with wedding parties. We layed down. My husband immediately fell asleep and I couldn’t because I was itching. Then I saw a bug on my pillow. I went to the bathroom and saw the bite marks and blood. I came out of the bathroom to my husband yelling that we have bed bugs. I looked at his bed and there were blood spots and bugs crawling all over his bed. We are covered in bug bites...bed bugs. It is no fun cleaning every inch of everything that you had in the room. The worst part is that we had the owner in the room looking at the actual bugs crawling all over the bed and the blood spots all over the sheets and he says “It’s not my responsibility “. Wedding parties please do not stay here for your wedding or your family members. I have thought about that since we checked out at 4 am. We have 5 grown kids and I couldn’t imagine their wedding parties staying at a place like this. I will be going to the BBB Monday to show them the pictures. I just wanted to...

Maybe….haunted? I stayed here out of necessity, It’s basically the closest hotel to the national park. The room was outdated, but not that bad. However, the sheets and towels had dog hair all over them. I also saw a paw print. A little overpriced, but not awful. The lady at the front desk was rude, but the man that checked me out the next day was friendly. The water pressure and temp is a big problem. I struggled getting the water strong enough to take a proper shower. I felt a little uneasy in this room, maybe because I was a solo traveler. But it felt kinda like I was being watched. I had a hard time falling asleep. But just as I dozed off, I woke up to the shower BLASTING for what felt like a whole minute. I sat up and screamed, it was really scary. And particularly odd, as I had such a hard time with the water pressure when I showered. It was really strange, but I suppose that’s a hallmark of Appalachia. The cool thing is that you can see the inn at the highest point of Cumberland Gap. If I go back, I’ll probably stay there again. There’s nothing else in the area. It would be nice if they offered mini muffins or something, Even drip coffee could be nice. The only thing you’ll find nearby is a gas station.

For the price, this is a good hotel. The room was clean and that is by far the most important thing. No carpet, which is great, and the place was being painted while we were there. Unfortunately, despite new paint there was still the lingering smell of smoke from likely years of smoking being allowed in the past. The decor of the rooms is out of date for sure but that doesn't really matter. The Internet was out while we were there which caused some check in issues but it ultimately worked out. The bathroom was nicely redone but unfortunately the water was not hot (at best it would get lukewarm) and that was the worst part of our stay. I don't ask for a lot in a hotel stay but a hot shower is top of the list, and I see from other reviews that this has clearly been a problem, and it obviously hasn't been addressed. The location is phenomenal, and you can walk to all kinds of great things in what is an awesome little town. The rooms have great views of the surrounding mountains, and a nice little back deck where you can sit and listen to the creek trickle by. If management would simply address some of the minor issues, this would be 5 stars for sure.
