Had an excellent hike to the cave. Did not arrange for a tour. Just wanted to hike up and see what's there. Parked in the Iron Furnace Parking lot and headed up. Stopped at the Iron Furnace and continued up. The trails are well maintained and even though it had recently rained, they were not muddy. As you get close to the cave, the trail turns into sidewalk. Take the right sidewalk to get to the entrance for tours, stay straight to see a lower blocked...

The cave was closed because of the off season but it was still great to see were Cold Joe use to live. The cave was called Cold Joe Cave by the locals because of a black man named Joe use to live in the cave for years until he died in the cave. Then the government bought the land and made it into a National Park and changed the name to what it is...

The hike to Gap Cave is a moderate hike. The trees were just starting to bloom. We weren't allowed to go in the cave tho. It is closed until April 30 due to bat hibernation. Also, the trail from Furnace Rock parking lot was closed due to maintenance. We parked at Daniel Boone Visitor Center. It is on the right just before you enter the town of...
