Edgewater Beach Resort offers a decent stay, deserving a 5/10, but falls short of the "resort" experience you'd expect. While the location is nice, the overall experience felt somewhat lackluster.
Improvements:
To truly elevate Edgewater Beach Resort to a proper "resort" status, several enhancements could be made.
In the lobby, a bar or small food kiosk could be introduced, serving drinks and snacks. This would not only add to the convenience of guests but also provide a significant revenue stream. A small convenience shop could sell chips, drinks, and other essentials at a premium, leveraging the convenience factor. This would be particularly profitable given the captive audience and the common occurrence of guests needing quick snacks or drinks without wanting to leave the property.
The indoor pool area, currently hot and stifling like a jungle, could be transformed into an inviting tropical oasis. By filling the space with humidity-tolerant jungle plants, the resort could enhance the ambiance, making it feel like a lush retreat. This aesthetic improvement would likely increase guest satisfaction and could become a unique selling point for the property.
Additionally, the resort should consider offering rentals for kayaks or paddleboards, taking advantage of its beachfront location. These activities would not only enrich the guest experience but also provide an opportunity for rental revenue. Premium cabanas could also be rented out on the beach, offering guests a more luxurious and private experience. Furthermore, selling cold water or ice cream directly on the beach could cater to the immediate needs of sunbathers and generate extra income.
The resort's use of the term "resort" feels somewhat misplaced with the current amenities. To better align with the expectations that come with such a title, these additional features could transform the experience and justify a higher rating. These suggestions would mostly require an initial investment but could quickly generate income and enhance the guest experience, making the resort feel more complete.
Lastly, looking to the Pelham House down the street for inspiration could be invaluable. They've undergone a total transformation, and with Edgewater's much larger grounds, there's significant potential to create a similarly appealing atmosphere. For instance, partnerships with local businesses could introduce unique offerings like yoga sessions, watersport lessons, or themed events. This not only diversifies the guest experience but also creates business synergies, expanding the resort's appeal.
Additional Income-Generating Ideas
Create attractive packages that include accommodations, meals, and activities. For instance, a "Summer Fun Package" could include room, kayak rental, and a meal discount, increasing overall spend per guest.
Partner with local chefs to offer beachfront dining experiences or pop-up restaurants at additional fee. This unique dining experience could attract both guests and locals, providing a new revenue stream.
Loyalty Program implement a loyalty program that offers discounts or perks for repeat guests. This not only encourages repeat business but also helps in building a loyal customer base that can provide steady income.
Finally adding a chalkboard near the beach which notes the daily high and low tide as well as water temperature...
Read moreI really have mixed feelings about this resort. The reviews gave us high hopes but the reality was not as good as we had hoped it would be. To begin with, we were checked into their overflow building across the street from the resort (even though there were rooms available in the main buildings). It was just far enough away, that none of the great amenities the resort offers were convenient for us. The condo unit we had was small and crowded - like a hotel room not a condo. There was a small kitchenette - pretty much beside the bed. The bed was ok. Not great, not terrible. The room was clean. As with most condo resorts, there was not daily housekeeping, which is fine with us.||The resort offers a swimming poo and a hot tub, but they were not close to our room, so we did not try them. The grounds are large and nice. Lots of grass. We walked across it to get to the beach, but again.... not close enough to our room to want to walk over to enjoy the openness. We did walk to the beach a few times, which was a good walk, but the beach was nice. Since Cape Cod has private ownership of beaches, we did have the resort portion of the beach pretty much to ourselves.||Miscellaneous: parking was easy. Staff was friendly and helpful. The location is nice. Only a couple miles to restaurants, shops, etc. and the resort is on the beach. The neighborhood is quiet. The drivers in Dennis Port, and really all over Cape Cod and Boston, are courteous and so it is easy to navigate the area.||We would probably return if we could get a better unit. But would not return if we had to settle for a room in the...
Read moreIf you use the loosest definition of "resort" Edgewater falls short. At best, it is a glorified hotel room. With shoddy patch work, cracking walls, a screen door that barely opens, and stains on the furniture, I feel like I'm staying in a lower end Super 8. Yes, we have a kitchen, but that is literally its only plus. The bed and pillows are so stiff, you might as well be sleeping on the floor. We're here in the off season, but even the indoor pool/hot tub is down for the season. We might have been able to swim in the giant puddle in front of the main lobby that was there while it was raining, but we thought it was too cold for such things. It hasn't gotten above 60 degrees while we are here, but for some reason, the room is still warm. We even turned the AC on and we still can't seem to get it cool. I can't even attest to it's cleanliness. Some of the grout in the shower is green where it should have been white. The dishwasher had food stuff left over in the bottom of the drain. It seems like Edgewater uses the fact that it is on a beach to call itself a resort, but then does nothing to live up to that expectation. And speaking of beach, if you look around all the closely packed buildings, you can see the ocean, but there is no real view. All-in-all, this place needs some serious work. Coming into the main season, I am surprised there is this much wrong with this "resort".
Edit: I bumped it up to 3 stars. We talked to the front desk. They gave us a voucher to visit a local pool. She also called room service to see about softer pillows. She was very nice...
