: Disappointing Experience at Best Western Inn Plus: A Cautionary Tale
My recent experience at Best Western Inn Plus was distressingly far from what I anticipated, especially as I was traveling with my two young children. Despite the hotel's claims of being a smoke-free environment, the pervasive smell of cigarettes throughout the premises immediately contradicted their assurances.
Upon checking into our room, which we had assumed would be a clean and welcoming space, we were greeted instead by an overwhelming odor of cigarette smoke. This was especially concerning given the health and comfort of my children. With hopes of resolving the issue, I requested a room change, only to be met with a second room that not only retained the smoky smell but seemed to attempt to mask it with an overpowering cherry spray. This solution was far from acceptable.
Taking my concerns to the front desk, I was informed with great disappointment that despite our short stay and the legitimate health concerns posed by the room conditions, we would not be refunded for our three-night booking nor the holding deposit. Seeking further assistance, I called the manager, only to be met with a lack of empathy and responsibility. The manager's stance that the cigarette smell and the smoking habits of their guests were out of their control, and thus not their fault, was bewildering. Furthermore, the manager's insistence that the room had been checked and found free of any cigarette smell directly contradicted our firsthand experience.
This experience has left me not only out of pocket but deeply concerned about the health implications for guests, particularly those with young children, who may stay at the Best Western Inn Plus under the assumption of a smoke-free environment. The lack of accountability and customer service in addressing and rectifying our concerns was appalling.
I would strongly advise potential guests to consider other accommodations. The refusal to acknowledge and address legitimate health concerns, compounded by a blatant disregard for customer satisfaction, makes Best Western Inn Plus a place to avoid. The lack of empathy and assistance from the management team further cements this view. Stay away if you value clean air and respectful...
Read moreThis is Soley based on my visit. Pros: The location is quite convenient, with easy freeway access—though it wasn’t an issue for me at all. It's also right next to a Safeway, Denny's, Burger King, and several other great dining spots. My room was in the key access area, which added an extra layer of security and comfort. You’re about 15 minutes from Winters or Davis, and just a 30-minute drive to Downtown Sacramento. The room itself had everything I needed—Hot water, desk, sofa, mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and even an ironing board. They offered breakfast, they had a variety coffee maker. The staff really went above and beyond for Valentine's Day, with lovely decorations and thoughtful packages.
Cons: The first room I was assigned was a bit shabby and had an unpleasant odor. Additionally, the TV didn’t function properly. After upgrading to the key access area, the experience was much better, and I would highly recommend staying there. The door latch didn’t allow the door to close immediately; you either had to pull the door or wait a couple of minutes before walking away. The bathtub wasn’t sealed properly, causing loud noises with every step, almost like hitting a wall. The bed wasn’t particularly comfortable, and the pillows were small and flat. A tip for the shower: avoid turning the hot water all the way up, as it can get hotter than expected but you get hot water.
There weren't too many issues, though I forgot to take the usual pictures. The small town of Dixon isn’t really a sightseeing destination—it's more of a stop for rest and fast food. I would recommend the key access area suite rooms, though I can’t speak on the others. If you enjoy shopping, I suggest checking out Davis...
Read moreThe property was nice and the room was pleasant. The only conflict was that they turned off our water for at least an hour and a half, without informing us of this when checking in. My partner and I were checking out the sauna and when we got back to our room to shower, the water was shut off. I called down to ask why, and they told us they had tried to call to let us know, but I didn't answer (because we were in the sauna). If you are going to act like it's my fault that I didn't know the water was shut off, you should do a little more to inform us than call me from an unknown number and not leave a message. When the water had been shut off for longer than the hour we were told, they let us check out later, which was appreciated.
We had already paid for the late check out upon check in, but we would not have done so if we knew that we could not shower until well after we had wanted to leave. We had only wanted a late check out to sleep in and get ready for the day without rushing to leave at 11. When I asked for a refund ($25), as we would have left at the normal time if the water was not shut off, they said no because they tried to tell us the water was shut off and let us stay late. All of this relies on the assumption that the staff communicated effectively with us and we were fully informed of the situation, which we were not. This would not have been an issue if the staff was more sympathetic with our frustrations with not being able to use the water, and understood that we should have been informed about the issue in a more...
