BED BUG INFESTATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My boyfriend and I stayed at the The Lodge at Mount Snow this past winter after booking directly on Mount Snow's website. After spending 1 night at The Lodge at Mount Snow we received 70 plus bed bug bites!!!! And the next day after finding the bites, we found actual bed bugs in our hotel room, see pictures. We reported this issue to the hotel owner, Jim DesRochers, and received very unprofessional and an inadequate support. Mount snow also refused to help further investigate this issue or reimburse us claiming they had no obligation to even though we trusted the room since it was booked directly through Mount Snow's website and it seems directly affiliated with their resort and does not state anywhere it is not. In an effort to gather evidence to get our stuff back we spoke to the experts at Superior Bed Bug Solutions, and they made it clear that this is a situation of neglect by the hotel to take care of a serious bed bug infestation prior to our stay.
Mr. DesRochers advised us to put our clothes in his hot hotel dryer or he would dry-clean our clothes after we left and mail them to our homes??? No services were offered for treatment of our things that were not able to be put in a dryer (e.g. snowboard boots, computers, suitcases, etc.) and no professional extermination services were offered to us or mentioned at any time. We declined Mr. DesRocher’s offers to clean our clothes himself due to his lack of professionalism and knowledge or resources related to the extermination of bed bugs and his neglect to remedy the situation in the hotel room in first place. He also told us he would sell our unused lift tickets and send us the money, we never heard anything again.
Without any help, we decided to abandon the majority of our belongings in the hotel room in order to avoid bringing any bed bugs home with us. We left The Lodge at Mount Snow that night. The professionals at Superior Bed Bug Solutions confirmed this was the smartest choice to make at the time. They said based on the number of bites we received after staying one night, there were at least 50 bed bugs in our room. This and based on the facts that a typical bed bug feeds (bites) 1 to 3 times per day, but does not feed everyday, and the life cycle for a bed bug is approximately one month, they predicted there were around 50 bed bugs in the room. Mr. DesRochers told us that night that he had been booking the room every night and suggested that the people before us may have brought the bed bugs in, but the professionals said this cannot be true. They also informed us that bed bugs are attracted to used items (such as our dirty clothes etc.), especially fertilized female "hitchhikers" that are the most likely to spread an infestation. So, at this level of an infestation it would have been very easy for us to take the bugs, or eggs that the fertilized females lay on your things, home with us. After receiving no professional options, we asked Mr. DesRochers for compensation for our belongings and he stated the hotel did not make any money so he was incapable of providing this. He also told us he appreciated us not telling the other guests, so I feel he had no plans of telling anyone, including the guests in the rooms adjacent to us.
After receiving no help or willingness to compensate us for our lost items from Mr. DesRochers, we spoke to Mount Snow in hopes of getting some help. They said Mr. DesRochers never reported the bed bugs to Mount Snow’s booking service, only telling them it was a “customer service issue”. After our complaint Mr. DesRochers told Mount Snow that he only treated the room we were in, however, the professionals told us if pesticides were used all adjoining rooms need to be treated to stop the bugs from running to neighboring hotel rooms as they do to avoid the chemicals. Also, a course of treatments over several weeks up to more than 1 year is necessary, because the bed bugs can lay dormant...
Read moreWhen you first approach the hotel, you may notice the trash cans set up at the front. I believe this gives a rather accurate introduction to the place. When you enter your room, you will likely be quickly off-put by the smell, which I would describe as a some sort of vague mix of mildew and bleach. You will be greeted also but by a generally dingy and disappointing atmosphere. Old green carpets, unpleasant curtains, and a popcorn ceiling make up the cramped room. In the far corner is a minifridge on the floor, with a plug-in microwave sat upon it, each about the quality you'd expect (Not good). Look more closely at the room and you may see stains on the ceiling, peeling wallpaper, and shattered tiles on the bathroom floor. If you want to adjust the heat, you'll have to take a look at three different controls; we asked for help and not even the attendant seemed to understand how it worked. There are a total of three power outlets, one of which is in the bathroom, so you'll have to unplug the microwave, refrigerator, and lights. The bathroom outlet has attached to it a generous hair dryer; however, it does not work at all. If you plan on showering here, you're in for further disappointment. The washcloths and towels are extremely thin and rough. The water pressure is essentially nonexistent; it rather falls out of the showerhead, with one or two stronger streams. The fan in the bathroom does work, on occasion, but as the timer progresses, it will start/stop randomly. It only lasts a few minutes and has inaccurate timing. Not to mention how creaky the door is, and that the beds have no fitted sheets.
Throughout your stay, more problems will become apparent. The walls and floors are extremely thin, so you hear just about everything going on around you. This nicely complements the random, incessant drilling and hammering that goes on while your there (In between skiing and eating dinner). The staff can often be seen smoking out front. The internet is uselessly weak. On the way to the game and food area, you cross a bridge which slopes downward in the middle. You may be attracted by the promise of breakfast, but they offer only a selection of cereal, pre-packaged muffins, and oatmeal, for a price of $8 (Though it's supposedly an honor system). The darts are almost all broken, and the only two pool cues have missing tips. We also had most of our room keycards stop working after a couple of days.
Overall, I'd say the main benefit of this place is that encourages you to be on the slopes and away from it as much as possible. Please choose any other option if you can; the close proximity is not worth it. For the price they charge for double-twin bed room, these things should not...
Read moreTo start, it is not part of the Mt. Snow resort and does not have an elevator (the dining room is down a flight of stairs). The most positive thing about our stay is the food; it was the best part since Roger--the chief cook, server, and busboy--was very accommodating and friendly. It was nice to eat real scrambled eggs (not powdered ones), though an addition of sugar-free syrup for the pancakes/french toast would be a good move. . The bag lunch was very generous and satisfying, and the dinner for two was delicious. We had to bring our own alcohol since the bar was not operational, and though we probably saved money by bringing our own alcohol, it would have been nice to get a drink before dinner. Now to the main reasons I will not go back...We used the living social voucher, and the 'superior room' had a refrigerator (good) but no coffeemaker (bad); it was warm (we stayed there in October but the temps were in the 70s during the day). The window in our room would not open and the AC was 'off for the season.' We did have a little porch area with chairs outside our room: picture a door to a connecting room, and when it is opened, there is a little vestibule with another door right in front of you and a third door that opens outside. I didn't know if the door across from ours was a door to another room, so I felt uncomfortable leaving the door to our room open. Having both doors open, however, was the only way to get air in the room. The room was very shabby and though I thought the black stuff under the soap dish was old soap, my companion thought it was mold. We could hear people walking above us and the first night there, people had an impromptu party at the fire pit out back and the noise carried on until almost 11:15. The deal came with a voucher toward a canoe rental, and when I asked where to get the canoe, I was directed by an employee where to go and that I could easily walk there. She was right, and we did, but when we got there we were told to go back and get our car since we'd have to strap the canoe to the top of the car and drive to a lake about 10 minutes away. This was not feasible (we had driven there in a convertible) so we were not able to that. The man at the front desk, Jim, was very friendly and helpful and gave us good suggestions for hikes. The lodge itself is run down and shabby. I will not return. So, if you sleep and eat there but spend the majority of your time elsewhere, this may be the...
