On August 16th, 2020 my wife Donna and I checked into the Hilton Garden Inn, located at 4620 South Miami Blvd, Durham, NC. A couple hours after checking in my wife stated that something bit her on the (L) chest. After examining her chest area, I noticed that there was a small red spot, developing.
I immediately went to the service desk and spoke with Guest Service Manager, Ms. Lisa Westmoreland. I informed Lisa, that my wife was bitten by something in the bed, and that her chest was itching and turning red. Ms. Lisa Westmoreland, ran around the hotel looking for alcohol wipes and Hydrocortisone. Eventually, she was able to locate a couple of packs of Hydrocortisone, which help my wife with the itching problem. We had double queen sizes beds in the room, so we switched to one bed, to avoid any further incidents.
On March 17th, Donna and I checked out of the hotel and returned back home, in Greenville, South Carolina. Over the next two days the small red spot increased in size and diameter. On March 20, Donna had to respond to Emergent Care to get treated for this bite mark, that morphed into something larger. As of September 21, 2020 my wife still has a lump on her chest, at the site of the bite mark, and we still have not heard from the Hotel's Assistant and General Managers . No calls, emails or texts from either manager, expressing any level of concern for my wife's well being after being bitten, in their hotel, or to follow up on her after care treatment. We are now " Persona Non Grata" by the hotel and their executive management staff.
These two managers Tor Gabrielson and Karen Holderfield, should be ashamed of themselves for their lack of care and concern toward Hilton Reward Members, more specifically, Donna and I. It seems that their only concern was being exonerated by the pest control report, which was conducted and completed two weeks after we checked out. We will never stay at this location, again and will encourage others to stay away from this location.
I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge, that Ms.Anitra Llano-Sierra, Executive Ambassador from the Corporate Office, has repeatedly responded positively to each and every email, that we sent. Beyond the positive emails from the corporate office no other considerations have been extended to Donna and I, not even a free cup of coffee.
I intend to post this incident on every social platform, to warn the public to stay away from this Hilton Garden Inn. . And by the way, last week Donna and I stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn, located on West Main St, in Durham. And yes, it was relaxing, no insect bites and the staff were very Hospitable.

Read moreAfter driving about 9 and 1/2 hours from New York City to North Carolina for a festival I arrived around 2:25 p.m. I approach the front desk with my girlfriend and our luggage to proceed and complete the check-in process which I had started in the Hilton app as I am a Hilton Rewards member. The employee at the desk simply looks at me and "yes?" No "Welcome to Hilton Garden" or "good afternoon" or even a "How may I assist you?". I respond "I am here to check in as I have a reservation". " she responds" check in is at 3:00" and that was it. She didn't instruct me to wait or have a seat or even explain that the checking policy is firm and that I can have a seat at the lounge with my luggage until the time arrives. At that point I was already so embarrassed at the experience that I just went back into my vehicle with all my luggage until 2:55 arrived. When I arrive back to the lobby there was a mob of people sitting I'm assuming waiting until 3:00. When it was time to check in the same assistant that was rude at my arrival Samantha simply asked me for my ID and handed me the room card. She did not tell me my room number she did not tell me about the breakfast accommodation she didn't even tell me to enjoy my stay. We were not the only ones that were displeased with the check-in process as everyone who was checking in was very disappointed with the lack of hospitality we received at check-in. The whole experience was very rude and unwelcoming . This is very unfortunate as I chose Hilton because of his prestigious reputation of treating people with respect and giving us a great experience anywhere we stay. I almost regretted not choosing the Holiday Inn Express although the service may not be as good at least they offer complimentary breakfast because the way that I was received felt very very low class and not up to the standard that I believe Hilton hold up to. The more unfortunate part is that during the whole interaction it seems to be that her supervisor was standing right behind her not doing anything about it. I normally don't leave reviews but it is my hope that this will reach the right people so that some training can be done to ensure that this does not happen to anyone going forward as no one should be received that way let alone someone that just drove 9 hours out of state and could have chosen any other Hotel but chose Hilton thinking they will get a...
Read moreGreat Location, Nice Property, but Evening Staff Need to Be Nicer and the Beds are Awful!!
We stayed here 5 nights, so we got to know the property very well. Great location just off I-40 between Durham and Raleigh. But, we got a bad taste right away as when we checked-in late, around 11:00pm, the staff checking us in was not friendly at all and rude. And not just to us, I hear another guest who checked in after me actually remark back to the different check-in agent who was rude too!
Hotel is very clean, looked well maintained, and our room was a very large corner room. Room was clean and contained large mini-fridge and microwave. Then...we had to go to bed, and the bed was terrible! The worst mattress I ever slept on, and as you can see I stay at a lot of hotels. It was horrible uncomfortable, very hard on the edges, then a mix of hard and sink-in in the middle of the mattress. In some spots your body would literally sink in to the point that you could not roll over as your body was deep in this "rut".
The next day I say this display at the front desk showing that you can dial adjust the mattress. So, we did, and no difference. I'm not even sure the knobs on the mattresses do anything. There is no power connected to the mattress, so I don't know what turning the knob does, but again, no difference. The worse nights of sleep I have ever had. Work up each morning still and sore. To make it worse, there is no box spring, the mattress sits on a plywood board. We pre-paid the rate, so we were pretty much stuck. Now I see why they had the best rate!
We never ate at the hotel, so I can't comment on the food. No free breakfast, but they have a daily $10.99 breakfast buffet. Great workout room, great business office, nice outdoor pool, but even though the weather was warm, the pool was so freezing. Not one ounce of heat. Also, for a large hotel, only two, that we could ever see, only two small airport style luggage carts. Needless to say we needed to use two. I guess they believe everyone who stays there are flying.
The room and property are very nice, but the beds will definetly keep us away next time, and we travel to Raleigh/Durham...
