If I were primarily interested in good food at a B&B this would be the place to visit, however if comfort, quiet and an elegant stay are your main requirements better to stay at home. Especially if your home has a large fireplaced Master bedroom with a large marble master bath and jacuzzi! I was shocked to find a phone booth sized bathroom BEHIND the room door of this corner unit. Only one shade (not room darkening) on one of tbe 3 windows. Windows had standard run of the mill rubber lined drapes that refused to close together to block some light. Thankfully I had safety pins to do the job. The bed was dreadful, every time you or your spouse moved in or out of the bed, it creaked! There was NO comforter, down or down alternative supplied even though upon booking I asked and was told they had tbem. I was freezing all night long. The Mitsbishi heat and A/C unit was confusing at best. I am supposed to know which teeny tiny icon stands for heat and which one represents cooling!#@! Since we arrived just after 10, there was no one to ask for help and I was not going to call a number listed as an after hours emergency number to ask about a comforter and heat! I finally fell asleep somewhere after 3 AM having used my coat as a blanket (I saw extra pillows in tbe armoire but did not see a blanket which mgmt he next day assured me had been there) when somewhere around d 5 or 6 AM I was awakened by a very LOUD sound of what seemed like a river rushing through our room, although the sound was more likely coming from the room above us! I faced a long day ahead of me with about 3 hours of sleep. Breakfast was, a very pleasant surprise to me. I so enjoyed the lovely Belgium Waffles, berries and the same apple cake that had been left in tbe common room the night prior. (I dont mean to imply here it was tbe exact same cake served again but rather the same recipe used) There were offerings of English Muffins, Bagels, Toast cold cereal, steel cut warm oatmeal, Quiche and potatoes. Coffee and Tea along with juices were a welcomed morning treat, esp after so little sleep the night before! I met the Inn owners, he was very pleasant, while she who had heard my complaint about tbe lack of a b and b typical comforter was nonplussed and frankly seemed disinterested in my comments, never saying a word to me about what I felt was totally inadequate bedding. If I had had a client say those things to me I would have made it my business to seek tbem out after tbeir breakfast, thank them for their sincere comments and tell them I would take what tbey had said under advisement and would hope that they would give us another try to earn our respect and continued patronage. Nope, nada, nothing from her lips to my ears. What a distinct disappointment....although the cookies, apple cake, hot chocolate, tea, coffee, ice and soft drinks were very much appreciated in tbe common room. Alas not enough for a return visit w/o the owner's apology and explanation. ..and new beds and bedding!
If you were soooo sorry about my stay in your Inn WHY didn’t you take the time to call or write me about my legitimate concerns??? And you were incredibly and incredulously uninterested in my comments the day of our departure! Smug is a word that comes to mind. I am a world traveller and former Pan Am Purser and Recruiter who holds degrees in Education, Culinary Arts and a Master in Business Administration. I choose to stay in 4-5 star properties only…. This is not one of those! Have you bought new mattresses yet, 5...
Read moreWe were in the area for the Bethlehem music festival ( highly recommended) and just stayed overnight thank goodness.. Stayed in room #11 and upon entering we were hit with a musty odor straight away , they had some type of large air purifier/ dehumidifier humming away and coupled with the din of the AC unit we found ourselves speaking quite loud to hear each other . Not sure if the Delaware river recently flooded the neighborhood or if they have a moisture problem in the walls .. Upon the usual inspection of room for cleanliness and tidiness we noticed plenty of dust layered about the picture frames and surfaces alike and promised each other not to disturb it . Bed was neatly made but rug looked like it hadn't been vacuumed for some time , trash pail was full with the last lucky guests candy wrappers, plastic bottles etc.. . " Bathroom cleanliness " which imo is as important as any diner worth their salt having a fantastic cheeseburger - Bath and hand towels were fresh but to our horror the toilet and sink were not cleaned ( I'll leave out all the gory details ) .. We were quite perplexed that bed and bathroom towels were fresh ( we hoped ) but the all important toilet and sink were soiled and dirty . Upon notifying a very pleasant woman at the front desk about our findings she apologized and assured us it would be addressed right away .. After all day at festival we got back to room exhausted and ready for showers and discovered trash can still full , toilet clean but sink still had some toothpaste from previous guests on it .. Breakfast the next morning was very pleasant as well as the gentleman who prepared it for us . Portions were small so he offered second helpings and then gave us some interesting ideas for things to do in the surrounding area.. I hope all the best for the Lafayette Inn but for a Friday night overnight ($284 ) we expect a Spotless room especially for such...
Read moreHusband and I stayed here for a long weekend while I destroyed myself at the Lehigh Valley marathon. We checked in on a Saturday afternoon (room was ready early) and stayed until Monday afternoon. We stayed in room 3 (thought we were going to bring our dog, and decided otherwise last minute; room 3 allows pets), and were pleasantly surprised. The room was big, with en suite bathrooms. Room 3 is in the lower level of the house and not quite as light and airy as the upper rooms (the receptionist gave us an option for another room since we didn't bring the dog). We were completely fine w/ the darker room and the cooler temperature. If you are really picky, then I might suggest getting a room on the upper floor, or one of the rooms on the lower floor w/ a private walk out.
The house accommodations were wonderful, with great 24hr snacks. The breakfast was good, but not amazing. It is basic, but that is comforting for people that enjoy a basic breakfast. You won't find eggs Benedict or a truffle and bacon soufflé...more like Belgian waffles and cereal. Again, good and still warrants a 5 star from me. But I am not a picky breakfast person. On Friday and Saturday evenings they offer free wine and cheese from 4P-6P. This was a nice touch. Simple, but nice. Bottle of red, bottle of white, and two types of cheeses w/ water crackers.
This is the epitome of an overall good bed and breakfast. Will be back again, and next time we are going for one of...
