We really enjoyed the stay here. The owner accommodated us with the ground floor room a few days before our stay per my request. Really appreciated that since some of the reviews said you could here people walking, and having a 7yr old celebrating a birthday I didn't want his excitement to cause any trouble for others. So I appreciate that very much. We got there super late, 2am late and although I had to call twice to ensure we would have a way in after-hours, it was very simple. The owner sent me and email with instructions on how to obtain the key and left the paperwork in the room for us to take care of in the morning. In regards to the "thin walls" review, honestly we didn't hear much except for the pipes, which honestly didn't bother us. The rooms are very roomy, you don't feel crowded and extra pillows were provided without even requesting it. So here are my Cons: 1)Bring your own Hair Dryer (read it in another review and I listened) 2) the range wasn't working properly. We had to nudge it a little and only got the small one to work. We weren't really planning to cook, but ran out of breakfast so we had to purchase pancakes. After we got it to work it was fine. 3) the bathroom sink is super small for my taste, but my husband found it fine (he doesn't have to worry about his hair). 4) the parking lot in the courtyard is very small. If others don't park right you'll find it hard to park. We parked outside the first night, and inside the second.
Other than that, we really liked it, and I really enjoyed the atmosphere of the place. The color choice of the wall, the decor inside. The closet they had beside the dresser. Big enough table to sit 3-4 people. I personally...
Read moreWe were looking for a decent place to stay near the beach with a kitchenette, this place was a great option. My friend and I arrived and was pleasantly surprised by the charm and cleanliness of the property. We stayed in the main horseshoe shaped (10 unit) area. Check in was easy and we were greeted by the owner. He was very helpful with local suggestions. The owner also provided us with a bag of ice and a hair dryer. Our room was spacious, bright, clean, and nicely decorated. Two queen bed (very comfortable) with a basic stocked kitchen. This place is located on highway 101 and near the train tracks during peak hours traffic can be loud. Traffic noise was not a issue for me. Nice restaurants, bars, coffee houses, and tourtist shops are within walking distance. A small market (Peachy's) is nearby for groceries. Beach access is located a few blocks away (I recommend driving). The beach access has parking and is a surf beach area not recommended for day use. I suggest driving to Oceanside if you plan to spend the day at the beach. We stayed two nights and enjoyed our stay. I highly recommend this place, especially if your traveling with family. The property is family owned and well maintained. Parking is a bit tight however street parking is available. I love this place, it's charm and the fact that it's family owned and built in the...
Read moreHoo boy, where do I start?
The beds were the noisiest I've experienced ever...so bad they sounded like stepping on a hundred creaky steps all at once just getting in and out of them. Highway 101 and the train were bad but not as bad as the noise from upstairs. Probably just a family with a couple kids up there, but sounded like a herd of elephants whenever they were there.
Refrigerator in the kitchenette had no temp. controller, just a dangling wire that was probably once connected to one. So, it froze everything (milk, cold cuts, cheese, fruit) we put in there. Mentioned it to staff but nothing was done.
Place is very poorly constructed; "updates", like shower and tile in the bathroom looked just thrown in there. Broken alarm clock and couldn't rely on the office because they weren't there some mornings. Kitchen bar stools were partially broken.
Cold, slippery floors throughout, especially when they failed to give us floor mats for exiting the shower.
Place is only a bit over a quarter mile from the beach as the crow flies, but because it's socked in with houses, you actually have to drive well over a half mile to get to beach access. The place was therefore too expensive for a "close to beach" place.
Parking was very limited. Got back only at 8 one night and couldn't park near the room.
Honestly can't think of one good thing to say...
