The Best Clean, Friendly, Convenient, and Affordable Motel in the San Diego Area Located in the heart of Escondido, California, Motel Mediteran is a delightful motel that offers exceptional value—with spotless rooms, a friendly and welcoming staff, and unbeatable rates—all within easy reach of the best of San Diego. I recently discovered Motel Mediteran while searching for decent hotel prices. I was expecting Escondido to be a rundown location and the motel to be a bust, but it turns out that Motel Mediteran is now my favorite spot near San Diego. Forget whatever preconceived ideas you have about Escondido—clear your mind. Escondido, meaning “hidden,” is exactly that unless you explore it yourself. It boasts shimmering lights down Main Street, night-dancing pizza pubs, plenty of restaurants with delicious food, and a world-famous donut joint.
Not here for fun? There's a Lowe’s, Home Depot, Harbor Freight, Ace Hardware, thrift stores, Trader Joes, Sprouts, car dealerships, all the usual junk foods, and much more. The ocean is only 20 to 30 minutes away (depending on your driving speed). And… the popular Legoland and San Diego Zoo Wild Animal Park are just minutes away. While I'm committed to a construction project that keeps me busy and away from the fun during the day, I love heading back to Motel Mediteran for a quiet, relaxing evening. And, the rooms have microwaves and refrigerators if you want to just stay in the room and watch TV, and the parking is free.
Unfortunately, there is a large construction project happening next door to the south of the motel, but that doesn’t reflect on the quality and charm of the Mediteran or Escondido. I could waste your time (and mine) telling you about all the unpleasant hotels I’ve stayed at in San Diego, but I won’t. If you want the best place to stay for a great price, the Motel Mediteran is my only recommendation. I hope this...

We reserved 5 rooms. Each room has 2 queen size beds except for 1 room which has 1 king size bed.
The date of arrival, i received a call at 830 am to call them immediately regarding my reservation. As soon as I am able to, they just said that my rooms will not be ready until the 3pm check-in.
I received another call around noon saying that 1 of the rooms i reserved has plumbing issues and if it would be acceptable to change it to 2 separate rooms with 1 king size bed each room. That worked out for us, so i accepted it.
Around 6 pm, my sister, who informed them when she booked her rooms, that she is coming around midnight, called me and said that she just heard a voicemail from the hotel that they have cancelled her reservations because they have called her that morning and left messages and she did not respond. My sister is a physician and don't access her cell phone the whole day. She was so distraught that the hotel will just cancel her reservation the night she is about to board the plane. Eventually she was able to talk to the hotel staff and got her reservations back.
All rooms were clean. Beds were comfortable. 1 small hotel-sized shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and soaps were complimentary. 4 sets of towels were supplied and were ok. Shower water pressure was poor. I have thick hair, and it takes forever to wash my hair because of the low water pressure shower head. No countertop space in the bathroom sink.
Free breakfast was good but you need to take your food to your room because the breakfast area is very small.
Staff was ok. Not as friendly but not rude.
The pool is super cold, but that did not stop my 7 yo to go in for a dip.
If this review help you in any way, please give it a thumbs up.

Read moreI have stayed here several times, and would normally give them 5 stars. However, I am currently having a negative experience, and just sent this to the manager. I am disappointed:
I have been here since Thursday night, and I am staying until Monday. I am a regular customer, as I am part of a Masters program at the Safari Park. I am in room XXX.
My first night, I carried many heavy bags to the room, the key didn't work, and I was waiting for 30 minutes to be helped. I was exhausted after a long drive. There was no working TV nor internet, and long, black hairs were on the floor (this is not my hair color). The second night, the remote didn't work, so I could turn on the TV but not change channels. Those were small hurdles.
EVERY night since I have arrived, I have not slept more than 5 hours, and I have to be ready for an intensive class all day. Last night was the worst, and it's happening again. The noise above my room starts around 8 pm and has stopped and then started every night. It sounds like stomping on the floor on purpose (it's happening right now as I am trying to sleep, and just absolute stomping) and furniture constantly moving, doors slamming, and this morning, this was happening at 3 am. I also heard a barking dog above me this evening.
Please do something. There are a few of us who come in from out of town for these classes, and I have recommended your motel, as I have usually had an excellent stay. I can't say that I will again, unless something is done about the constant noise, and at all times of the day. Some of us are here for business.
Please help me to...
