AutoCamp Sequoia: A Disappointing Juneteenth Weekend - Power Outage, Spoiled Food & Poor Management.
As big fans of AutoCamp (we've loved Russian River and Zion!), our recent stay at AutoCamp Sequoia was a huge letdown. What was supposed to be a relaxing Juneteenth weekend turned into a frustrating ordeal due to a prolonged power outage and incredibly poor guest service.
We arrived on June 19th, past check-in, with groceries to cook for two nights. Staff immediately told us there was no power and wouldn't be until 4:30 PM, yet we couldn't even access our Airstream. We finally got in around 5 PM, put our groceries in the fridge with ice, and headed to the park, already hours behind schedule.
Returning at 9 PM, we discovered the power was still out. All our groceries had spoiled – a complete waste of money and left us without food. We couldn't shower or use the toilets as all pumps needed power. Staff offered no real help or compensation, and management was nowhere to be found. They didn't even proactively contact the power company; another guest had to call and learned power wouldn't be back until morning (it finally returned around 11 PM).
The lack of communication was infuriating. No call, text, or email warning us about the outage beforehand. If we'd known, we wouldn't have bought groceries!
When we checked out, after we had to inquire, they initially offered a measly $35 amenity fee waiver from our $500+ stay. After much back and forth, they "agreed" to a 20% discount on the first night. They refused to give us manager contact info, promising someone would reach out. It's been three days, and no one has contacted us, and our credit card was still charged the full amount! This is unacceptable.
Beyond the power issue, the site felt dustier with more bugs than other locations. The Airstream itself was noisy, and unloading luggage from distant parking with tiny wagons was a chore in the heat.
What was supposed to be a nice vacation turned into wasted time, money (spoiled food!), and endless waiting. AutoCamp Sequoia is poorly managed and made false promises. This experience has significantly damaged our view of the AutoCamp brand.
Steer clear unless you're prepared for unexpected disruptions and a...
Read moreI don't usually leave negative reviews, but I felt compelled to leave a review because the experience left me feeling so ripped off given the amount we paid to stay here. We flew out to Sequoia from the east coast after having a great experience with AutoCamp in Zion last year. I can not overstate the difference between what the website showed when we booked in March and what it is in person. Apparently this place is new-ish, but it's essentially 100 airstreams and cabins baking in the sun with very few trees or natural shade. There is no grass or really even any desert landscaping. There is no privacy for any of the airstreams or cabins. It was almost 100 degrees every day there and was incredibly dry and dusty. I can't blame them for the drought, but upon seeing the area it feels questionable why one would choose to put an operation of this size in a place where water is so clearly lacking. Beyond that, it's impossible to not feel ripped off. We stayed in a bunk bed cabin and paid nearly $400 a night plus a "resort fee", but there was no housekeeping, and despite the advertising, there were no bikes to use and no real amenities of any kind. We eventually had to ask to borrow a dustpan and broom because the room got so filthy from the dust. The water tasted and smelled like sulfur and seemed not potable. There was a water bottle filler in the main lodge, but the red light for the filter was on the entire time were were there, and no one ever replaced the expired filter. The pool was small but fine, and was probably the best part of the experience (definitely the best part according to my kids). Even though almost everyone was there to hike and swim, there weren't any hooks on the walls or places to hang backpacks or swimsuits. The room "amenities" consisted of a bunch of paper plates and cups thrown in a bin under an awkwardly stacked minifridge and microwave. I also cannot emphasize enough how overpriced and low-quality the food is. Everything was clearly frozen stuff from costco or whatever that was reheated in a microwave in the back. All in all, you'd be better off going to...
Read moreOur stay here was incredibly disappointing, especially given how expensive it was. We had specifically requested an Airstream with shade, but were instead placed in one with absolutely no cover—fully exposed to the sun from morning until sunset. It was so hot that it was impossible to enjoy any time outside, completely defeating the purpose of a relaxing glamping getaway.
We stayed for three nights and asked if we could be moved to another unit, but we were met with a sarcastic "we’re completely full" and zero effort to offer any kind of solution. We tried again, hoping to move for the last two nights, but were again told they were fully booked. Strangely, on the second day, we saw several guests checking out—so clearly a move could have been possible if the staff had cared enough to try.
The Airstream itself was dirty when we arrived—cups and cutlery had grime on them, the couch had noticeable stains, and the entire unit could have used a good deep clean. Water pressure was poor, and overall the unit felt neglected. A simple power wash and proper housekeeping could have made a world of difference.
The woman at the front desk with long blonde hair, glasses, and tattoos on both arms—was incredibly unprofessional. She was cold, sarcastic, and made us feel like an inconvenience any time we asked a question. Definitely not the welcoming atmosphere you’d expect from a glamping resort. She and another female staff with short, dark hair seemed very disinterested with their jobs. Other than those two, the rest of the staff we met there were okay.
The grounds were also disappointing. Everything was dusty and dry, with little to no landscaping. It triggered my skin asthma and made being outside uncomfortable. The entire place looked far less appealing than advertised—more like a dusty lot than a premium getaway.
Overall, we felt completely ripped off. This place did not deliver on its promises and was nowhere near worth the price. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing or enjoyable...
