Stayed 5 nights in a King Suite on the 2nd floor and started regretting it the first night (Sunday). The front desk staff was courteous and check-in was quick and smooth. The room was laid out nicely; having a living room area separated from the bedroom. The overall quality of the room is lacking though. The décor is quite dated. They use standalone heating/air conditioning units that for some reason struggle to keep the room temp at a steady level. Having decent weather during my stay, I kept it set at 71 (after a few attempts at trying to find a comfortable temp). It is loud and stays on for long periods of time. The bed was comfy but the TV is a bit small. I've always felt that a TV should fit the room, so to speak. Going with a 42" in a King Suite would probably be the minimum size - not a 37". However, the reason for my immediate regret is the ball room on the main floor. It was 930pm and I was trying to get to sleep. All I could hear was the constant thumping of music. After realizing it wasn't a car outside, I called the front desk, only to be told by the young girl working that it was a Quinceanera that runs till 11pm. I asked if it is common for them to schedule parties that late and she simply said yes while giggling. The unfortunate thing is that a Sweet 16 was held a few nights later and again ran until 11pm. I understand wanting to make a few bucks on hosting parties but running till 11pm is a bit late - especially for a standard work night. I wouldn't have minded at all if the sound was controlled better. For this reason I would recommend requesting a higher floor if you choose to stay here...The breakfast is not free (unless you are a member) so be prepared to pay $15 for it. I am a member but still find this ridiculous. It's the same breakfast items offered at Holiday Inn Expresses and Hampton Inns - eggs, bacon, sausage, etc. The only difference here is there is a server (not very friendly on the 3 days I ate there). She offers you juice or coffee then never returns to refill your glass. I'll assume it was because I had the free ticket so she assumed I wouldn't tip... The location is good but if you're familiar with the area, you know that getting anywhere and back is not the simplest of tasks. Pull up this site on Google Earth and you'll see what I mean. The gym is very nice with a large selection of machines/free weights. The pool is right next to it and looked nice, although I didn't get a chance to try it. I had a fridge and microwave that both worked well. The bathroom is decent but the hot water is a mystery. I'm not sure how they have their system set up but some times I'd have hot water immediately; sometimes it would take up to 5 minutes to heat up; and other times I'd give up waiting at 10 minutes. I asked the morning front desk guy about it at one point and he offered to schedule maintenance to visit, but I declined. Also, this place apparently hosts professional teams, touring artists, etc., so keep an eye out for that. The Costa Rican soccer team checked in a few hours after I did (not that I cared honestly) but it drew a small crowd. And there was a comedian in the room next to me who was performing in NYC for a few nights. Overall, the stay was decent but I would probably not choose this spot again if work sends me back to the area. And just as a tip: if you're looking for something to do during the week, the movie theatre next to the mall is completely empty...
Read moreDec 24th: Checked in at lobby; we checked the restaurant hours for the following morning so we knew at what time we could have breakfast on Christmas morning. Signage outside the restaurant & inside elevator both stated breakfast was until 10:30am - which was also confirmed by the gentleman at the lobby when we asked him.
Dec 25th: My wife makes her way down to the restaurant at approx 10:15 to start ordering food for both of us. When I show up 10 minutes later, I see that she is still standing and no one has sat her down. When I go see her, she tells me that no one has come to greet her, even though we can hear staff talking in the back of the restaurant. I walk to the lobby and I talk to a gentleman and he informs me that the restaurant is closed. I explained to him that we were told last night that the restaurant was open until 10:30am. He says that because it's Christmas the staff were given time off so they could enjoy themselves. It wasn't about being misinformed about the restaurant's hours in several ways that really made me upset - it was the fact that the gentleman didn't offer any alternative to us or service recovery whatsoever. If he at least would've said, ''''They already put the food away, I'm truly sorry - let me see if I can grab perhaps a fruit, juice or cereal or similar, WOULD THAT WORK FOR NOW?'' or perhaps offer an item or 2 from the little food stand next to the lobby - I'm sorry to say that nothing was done. Instead, he focused on arguing with me that the restaurant only opened until 9:30am and kept blaming the "guy" that gave us wrong information. With pretty much all the restaurants closed in the vicinity, and the staff member's attitude, my pregnant wife and I were not happy with our 1st morning in your hotel.
Also, the night we arrived to the hotel we realized that there was a female's underwear hanging left to dry on the shower rod. Given the current pandemic, we are promised "HILTON CLEAN STAY" and that our rooms are thoroughly sanitized. I don't believe that housekeeping is really cleaning our room in detail when they are missing a huge colorful panty left behind by someone else... I'm sorry. The funny thing is that we found it hilarious and we were so tired that we fell asleep and agreed that we would mention it to the hotel tomorrow morning during breakfast. Given the breakfast situation and your staff member's lack of desire to assist - the underwear was the last thing on our mind.
We stayed 7 nights - Overall, our stay here was not up to Doubletree or Hilton Standards. The lobby and room were beautiful. You've done a wonderful job upkeeping the property. However, it's important that you are aware the interaction with all 3 staff members in this hotel were not memorable - to say the least. Anyway, I believe I've shared enough and won't get into the details. We work remote and were planning on spending a few more weeks, but we decided to check-out when the lobby was not able to provide any info in regards to our...
Read moreThe Double Tree Hilton of Fairfield New Jersey was a truly unique experience. I say this having been to several Double tree Hilton’s within New Jersey and New York however I felt that I needed to give a short summary of my stay in order to publicize just how unique this hotel is.
This Double Tree Hilton is currently reopening during my stay, a sign which initially reassured me that my stay would be positive. I was shockingly disappointed when the dirt in the carpets made my white shoes black. This is not something I’ve ever experienced in any hotel or even outside. I think it’s unheard of to have ones shoes made dirty from the carpet when these shoes were cleaner outside. Additionally, there was no antibacterial soap in the bathroom in my room; a horrific crime during the Corona virus pandemic when washing ones hands is of the utmost importance. My initial response to this issue was to approach the front desk. Unfortunately this did not resolve the issue as I was told they don’t have soap so I had to resort to getting soap from the bathroom and bringing it to my room.
Moreover, the toilet in my room made a disturbing noise while flushing similar to the screech of a child. This of course doesn’t compare to the aforementioned information but gives character to the entire experience. Similarly the shower struggled while draining and resembled a kitty pool after a few minutes.
Finally the staff, while being understandably overwhelmed with the grand opening of the hotel, could have had the courtesy to look me in the eye while I was speaking to them and give me responses that were composed of 3 or more words.
While I am grateful and appreciate the shelter that the hotel provided for me, there are aspects which I feel managers could improve in order to come across as a hospitable and professional hotel. I am aware that the rooms are insanely underpriced however, one could theoretically stay in a dingy motel and pay less for the same service. Like I said initially, I have stayed at several Double Tree Hilton’s and am truly appalled by the service I received at this specific one because I always respected Double Tree Hilton and their professionalism. While I won’t be staying here again, I hope that my review provides insight on where to begin with improvements and helps other potential patrons make the best choice...
