Visited Nikko's with a group of 8 for a birthday party on Saturday Jan 5 2019 with a 7PM reservation. Had reservations made 1 week in advance for a large party, and called earlier that day to confirm. No problems, right? Wrong. When we arrived for our reservation, and checked in, the host's eye's bugged out of his head in surprise - I.E. they didn't have us down, so our table wasn't ready. We waited almost 90 minutes to be seated. Then, when we were finally seated, they sat another group with us that just arrived. Now, that's fine by us because we're friendly, but Nikko's sent a a chef to serve the new group, but not US. The other group ate and left before our chef showed up. From arrival to chef coming to our table, It took over 2.5 hours Finally, after almost 3 hours we ate, but nobody was happy because most of us had eaten lightly during the day knowing we would feast at night. The portions were so small! For example, I ordered the steak and scallops, and got half a steak and a few scallops. See picture attached. Now, I've been to many a Hibachi steak house - Mt. Fuji, Kiku, etc. so I know they feed you, usually too much! Given the ordeal, one would think they'd try to make up for the terrible service. The host offered our party of 12 a free bottle of wine. Great, so we could each have one shot glass. Overall the experience was a zero, the food was very tasty, the chef was lackluster and uninspired at best, and the "host/manager/owner" was one of the most inept, useless, unhelpful, uncaring people I've ever dealt with. I will definitely not be returning, and definitely not recommend this place. My recommendation is better leadership, and more customer care to whomever reads this from Nikkos

Sure! Here’s a positive review for Nico Hibachi in Fairfield, NJ, that highlights everything a great hibachi restaurant should have: ⸻ If you’re looking for a fantastic hibachi experience in North Jersey, Nico Hibachi in Fairfield is the place to go! From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with a warm, welcoming atmosphere and excellent service. The chefs are highly skilled and put on an entertaining, interactive show that keeps both adults and kids engaged. The food is absolutely delicious—everything is cooked to perfection right in front of you, with high-quality meats, fresh seafood, and perfectly seasoned vegetables. The fried rice is flavorful, the steak is cooked just the way you like it, and the shrimp and chicken are juicy and tender. Plus, the portions are generous, so you definitely won’t leave hungry. The ambiance is lively, making it a great spot for celebrations, date nights, or even just a fun night out with family and friends. The staff is attentive, ensuring drinks are refilled and special requests are accommodated. The restaurant is also very clean and well-maintained, adding to the overall great experience. If you’re looking for a top-tier hibachi spot in the area, Nico Hibachi is a must-visit. Highly recommend for anyone who loves great food, fun entertainment, and a welcoming appearance.

Takeout available. You've gotta try the Japanese nachoes, but avoid the ramen. I stayed over at LaQuinta next door and was elated hear that they have pickup. Their menu was right on the website, and my order was ready to go in just 15min. I ordered chicken ramen, Japanese nachoes and a crispy duck roll. Japanese Nachoes- these are a must try if you like nori and avocado. The nori was crunchy like a chip, and the guac was fresh. Crispy duck roll- also pretty unique and very delicious. It was rolled in a scallion pancake and topped with a sweet sauce. Ramen- super disappointing. If I order ramen from a Japanese restaurant, I expect a deep-bodied broth and perfect noodles. Unfortunately the broth was pretty watered down, and the noodles were quite overcooked. The chicken inside we're just salt and pepper cooked strips and provided nothing to the dish. (vs. shredded which is more often offered.) There were also random veggies inside (like red peppers and asparagus- that was a bit odd for me) The restaurant was beautiful inside and staff were friendly. Overall, I'd advise against the ramen if you like to order good authentic ramen, but I would encourage you to try some of their unique menu items.

Been going her a very long time, always loved it. However, I have to write this review because of an experience I had last night that should reflect the management of this place. I never write negative reviews, and always give second chances, but here it goes.

Walked in with my family. The place was mobbed. I asked how long and the manager Damien told me 45 minutes. I said no problem well wait. An hour goes by and he finally comes to get us. He says come up front were cleaning your table, your next. Okay great I think.

We then proceed to wait an additional 30 minutes, where he comes by and says you should probably get a drink, its taking longer. Um... Okay I said. Finally its our turn and we get seated. Mind you I walked in at 7pm and its now almost 8:45pm.

30 Minutes or so goes by and the waitress takes our drink orders. Flat soda, alchohol drinks were wrong. Sent it all back. Now were nearing 10pm and we still do not have anyone near us even warming the stove. I got up and approached the manger Damien to ask whats going on. I said to him "is anyone coming weve been seated nearly 45 minutes and nobody has come by" He brushed me off to the side and said just be patient. I replied "Come on man this is crazy, I am ready to walk out the door"

This is where it got really, really bad. Damien the MANAGER replied to me by saying the following "Feel free to leave when you like, you absolutely can"

I was speechless. Absolutely floored by the response!!!! How does a manager of a restaurant reply to a guest in this manner. We had a 3 hour dinner, kids starving, expectations were not properly set. Drinks were wrong, food order was wrong, gratuity was included, and everything about the experience of a place we have gone many times was all WRONG, and the MANAGER told me I should leave if I want? Terrible, terrible, terrible. I do NOT fault the establishment. I fault the managment, and its unnacceptable to speak with guests this way. The appropriate response should have been, let me get someone to help you, or let me buy you a drink, or have a desert on us, or I am sorry for the headache.

Everyone has a bad day, but to tell me to walk out of your restaurant? WOW! Please people, do not go here while this man runs the place. It could be a nice place to visit, but this turned me off like nothing else. I hated writing this review, but I...

Be careful of this place! Stopped to eat Hibachi at this place and when the bill came, there was an automatic charge of 18% tip. I then proceeded to ask the manager what this was about and he explained that it is automatic on hibachi service. I proceeded to explain that I have no problem paying for service, but what I do have a problem with is the fact that your establishment did not tell me about the charge in advance. He said Oh it's all over the website and on Groupon etc. I asked what does that do for a person who is riding by and not familiar with the establishment?

In addition to the automatic tip, they give you an option to add another tip on top of your bill and automatic tip. So in essence if you chose this option you would be paying a tip on a tip!!!

I came home and looked and it's no where to be found on the website. I called back and asked a young lady if there were any automatic charges to a hibachi meal and she oh "sometimes" they include the tip. I then asked for the manager and informed him that it was not on his website and therefore he was not truthful with his statement. I also told him what the young lady said and he said she should not have said sometimes but all the time. He offered to return the tip money, but of course I'm all the way home and would waste just as much gas to get the tip money back.

I do wonder if a tip was added to our bill because we are BLACK! Are we the sometimes? Is it assumed that we won't leave a tip. Unfortunately for them, they short changed themselves because we normally leave a 20% tip.

Be weary of this place and watch...
