Spent the weekend at the Avi resort. I wasn't very happy with it, so let's start with the good things I observed and get that out of the way.
Pros/Positives===
-It's right on the Colorado River, and there's a small shore/beach with a bunch of cabanas you can hang out at. It's really gorgeous, especially during sunrise and sunset. -The Avi might technically be in Laughlin, but it's about 25 minutes south of the rest of the city. It's far out on the outskirts of the town, so you have to drive a bit to get anywhere outside of the resort (if you don't like the food options inside the casino). So if you like being away from the bustling busy city, it's a solid refuge. -You're about 20 minutes away from the living ghost-town city of Oatman, AZ, a local tourism spot on route 66. -There is a day-care called "Kids Quest" that's right around the corner from the gaming floor. There's also a full arcade, food court, and a movie theater adjacent as well. There was a group of kids walking around there and it looked like they were having fun. -The pool has a rockslide (but was closed when we were there). -Fireworks sold in the parking lot. -The buffet, when it's open, is awesome. Great crab legs and prime ribs.
Cons/Negatives===
-The carpet at this place will shock the hell out of you. Walking around this place I'd pass people and hear them get shocked too. There's carpet everywhere, so choose proper footwear that won't generate static electricity and be prepared to deal with some unexpected shocks. -Almost of all of the staff are miserable. It's like they're always in a bad mood. They also act like it too, and treat you rudely. That means speaking to you in a firm, aggressive manner, and absolutely no smiling. I've seen more enthusiastic police officers and Wal Mart employees. And if they can't answer your question or solve your problem, they just flat out refuse to help. They'll even tell you straight up they don't know, then walk off. Absolutely not helpful at all. This didn't happen just once, this happened SO MANY times. I think there were only like 3 employees we met who actually acted like they were supposed to be there (and they all worked in the Cafe). -This resort is dumpy. It is not 4 stars. The rooms, yes multiple rooms I rented, were dirty and super worn down. Every corner and edge was chipped, dented, cracked. There were stains all over the carpet and furniture. The TV in the room I stayed in had a broken mount and was permanently at an angle. Some of the windows didn't crack open for a breeze. None of the bathrooms were cleaned at all; there was hair in my bathroom, water stains everywhere, and the bathtub was a filthy yellow tinge. I've seen questionable roadside motels with morbid histories that were better than this. This hotel has seen better days. This is all but rock bottom. -The water pressure in all of the bathroom faucets was very low. -No complimentary coffee in the rooms. -You have to pay to use the swimming pool. -You have to pay for full wifi access. -The entire place smells like stale cigarette smoke. We kind of expected that though, knowing it was a casino. -Very loud and noisy 24/7. The game floor is open all hours, and all night people were coming in and out of their rooms, slamming the doors, every 3-5 minutes, just like clockwork.
We didn't come here to gamble. We stayed here because we saw the prices were more affordable than what was available in the heart of Laughlin. If you're a seasoned gambler and are accustomed to the casino hotel experience like I just detailed, then by all means consider staying here.
Overall, I have to rate this a 3/5 because while there were a lot of things that sucked, none of us died or have gotten sick yet. We had a roof over our heads. The air conditioning and heater worked. And there was hot running water. You will survive if you stay here. It gets the job done. But just know, this is pretty bottom of the barrel. I have to say that's my fair review of this hotel. You have...
Read moreHotel Room Pros: seemed clean, fridge worked, we didn't have brown water like other reviewers stated, also our room did not smell like cigarettes like others said (we were 3rd floor central tower). Rooms pretty spacious, like the small dining table.
Hotel Room Cons: bed feels like you're sleeping on a box spring (got zero restful sleep)! The sheets are thin and scratchy!! The bottom sheets werent even tu ked under the matresses when we got in the room. You can hear your neighbors in their bathroom and the plumbing (this seems to be at most hotels I've stayed unfortunately), the blackout curtains aren't blackout because they are too short to cover the bottom of the window, NO WIFI unless you want to pay 10.00 a day for the slow internet. I read this on reviews ahead and just thought oh well I'll use my data, but there isn't even cell tower data or service. NO COFFEE MAKER OR MICROWAVE. I've been to motels that even offer this!!
Casino pros: food court, restaurants on site (only went to panda, thrifty ice cream, and subway) and they were good. Panda was a little skimpy on protein portions though. The employees at those places and the hostess at one of the restaurants were all friendly and helpful. The initial security guy at the front podium when we walked in was helpful and kind and Alexis at check in was also patient and kind. The food court/pool access area they try to divert to the side so you don't have to walk with kids through a smokey casino floor which is appreciated.
Casino cons: none at this time. I didn't come here to gamble.
Pool pros: they offer free cold water since you can't bring outside food/drinks in. There's a slide but use at your own risk , many kids were hitting their head on the end of the slide were it drops into the pool. We didn't stay very long because the cons outweighed the pros.
Pool cons: gross wark murky water, no life guards that are monitoring or checking out the kids that are getting injured off the slide. The depth only goes to 3ft so its not deep enough to actually swim. My two kids and I were throwing a mini water football and the security guy with longer white hair tied in a pony came over and yelled at my daughter "YOU, GIVE ME THAT NOW" it terrified her and she handed it to him and he yanks it from her hand and then proceeds to walk away when I asked what he was doing and he says "you can't have these here!" I told him he checked my bag when we came in that had a single towel and the football and didn't say anything then. He said he didn't see it and I asked if I could just put it back in my bag so he gave it to me and that's what I did , but at that point him scaring my daughter had already ruined the whole experience for us so we packed up and left. We later saw him at the front lobby podium as we were going to our elevator and he yelled at my son to not run (my son toe walks so his balance is off and it could look "stuttery" but definitely not like running). I just couldn't believe he targeted us AGAIN like that and had to pick on something like my child's toe walking !! Ew, old man, don't work with the public please!
Beach pros: sand, shallow for kids, tiki umbrellas for a little shade (but many others bring their own), cold water. Pretty good size inlet for swimming.
Beach cons: holy hot sand walking to the beach!!! When it's scorching outside expect that sand to feel like hot coals that burn your feet! Closed toe shoes would probably help more but who really wears those to the water. Maybe wear socks in the sandals? People had their seadoos in the shallow water taking up swimming space and when they would take off its close to people/kids which could be a safety concern for some. There were ducks which means lots of floating duck poop and probably walking on it too. But hey that's why we shower after right!?
Overall, I don't think we will be back to this establishment again mostly because the beds were so uncomfortable and we weren't able to enjoy the pool like we were...
Read moreI took my family to Laughlin nv and we decided to stay at avi casino because i have a 8 year old daughter so i want her to enjoy the avi beach and the pool . So I called and booked the room and I gave the lady my email address.She said she gonna send me the confirmation. But I didn't get no confirmation for a whole day.Answer I called them 10 times finally got through the Front desk. I finally got hold of the same lady who booked my reservation. I told her I never got my confirmation. She said oh I couldn't around email address. I'm sorry you understood. That I'm finally got my confirmation. We checked in the guy asked me. Which floor you wanna be? I told him what are the options? And he said 2nd floor I said I will take the 5th floor looking the view outside, is it no problem. So when we go to the room, it was on the 2nd floor and Looking at the wall, no view.My daughter asked me.I thought the gentleman told us he's gonna give us room with the vi told her i'm sorry it happens. So I told her let's not worry about it. Let's go enjoy the pool, the beach. And have fun all that and we came back. I told the let's take a shower and get ready. And we go out to eat but there is no blow dry in the room. There was only one towel in the room. What kind of service is that? It says when you book a room, you have all the services Included in the room. So I called the front desk and asked for more towels, a blow diet and 2 more extra blankets and I told him that I didn't get the view I asked for the guy said, I can just offer you a discount of 20 bucks. I'm like I'm not looking for a discount but fine. But I still need 2 blankets at least 4 towels in the blow dryer. The lady brought me one blanket.3 towels and for a blowdryer you have to wait at least half an hour.I'm trying to find 1 For you. At that point my family ordered took shower and my wife and daughter hair was already wet. He was just waiting for a blow dryer.. In the morning, we decided to go to eat some breakfast at the cafe downstairs. I ask a lady if I can order food to go serious. Go to the counter somebody to take it over. I've waited 10 minutes nobody even came and they were not busy at all. So I decided to get a table. And sit down. Maybe somebody will come and take my order. I sat down. One lady came in right away and she asked me for if I wanna drink anything? I told her a black coffee and a Bloody Mary. She brought me coughing, very, very fast. But the coffee was lukewarm and the Bloody Mary was watered down. She left the coffee on the table and the Bloody Mary. I took a sip of coffee and was look warm and the bloody ma. Ry was watered down as I told you but I cannot flag anyone down to replace that and on top of that No one came to my table.It's been 15 minutes so I got upset and got up.And I told the lady who brought me the coffee.I wanna pay for my coffee and leave.She said you gotta Pay for you Bloody Mary.Also I told her I've been waiting for 15 minutes.The coffee was lukewarm and Bloody Mary's water down.I'm not paying for buddy Mary, but I will pay for the coffee at that point.The lady said you can just leave. This was one of the worst experience I ever had.I will never come back there again.Or recommend anyone to stay there for that kind of service.You paying two hundred dollars for a room Service was a joke and...
