I stayed at the Central Motel back in 2013 and again in 2015 on my way west, but I found the place to be rather dated. I had not planned on staying there this year until fate intervened.
The first thing I noticed while entering the grounds was the burned out lettering in the sign out front. While this is not uncommon in the ma and pa places, one has to wonder why proprietors allow this. It does not make for a good first impression.
In general, however, the place has improved since new owners took over. I found the room to be clean, with a working refrigerator, new door locks & flat screen TV'S. One reviewer complained of bed bugs. I did not see any.
On the negative side, three things stood out. The first was the electrical outlets. They are so old and worn that I had trouble finding one which would hold my cellphone charger plug tightly. In several cases the plug simply fell out. Really? This is such an inexpensive fix that it's hard to understand why management allows it to persist. NOTE TO THE OWNER: Your guests need electrical outlets to work. Fix them!!! The second negative was the pillows. It seemed like they were filled with sawdust. Why not go over to Walmart and buy some cheapies? Anything would be better than your pillows in Room 19. And, finally, there was a previously used bar of soap in the shower. I have never encountered this in more than 45 years of extensive travel. It tells me that the cleaning person is not paying attention to detail.
All in all, this Motel is not bad. If he new owners chip away at making needed improvements, perhaps it will be worthy of the "AAA Approved"...
Read moreWe had to come into town for a funeral chose this place based on location, huge mistake. The televisions are set to a minimum volume and cannot be changed unless the owner feels up to it. When we went to check out the owner and employee have to come check your room. This entails a thirty minute room check while you wait as they move all furniture, lift the carpet to see if you damaged the floor underneath the carpet, check every wall outlet, spot check the bathroom and question you as to why you didn't strip the bed and collect the towels into a big pile to save the maid some time. All so you can get your deposit back. If staying here make sure you take before shots with your camera of any stains etc. or you will catch hell leaving the next day. We are in town three days, the next two will be spent at the best Western by the...
