Booked this hotel on our way to our final vacation destination. I booked the room through the Choice Hotels app since we are members and have been for quite some time. When I booked my room I booked a 1 room king suite to which at the time of booking the app said there were 3 rooms available. When we arrived and checked in the front desk told us, "bad news is there are no 1 room king suites available. But good news is we have an equivalent room." I was skeptical so I asked, "you have a room comparable to a 1 room king suite?" She said, "yes! It's a room with 2 queen beds!" I asked, "How is that comparable? Especially since I don't need 2 queen beds; there are only 2 of us." She said, "it's the same size room and it's what we have available". I said, "but when I booked my room it said there were 3 available how can there be none?". She said that it happened a lot with the third party apps. I told her I booked through the Choice Hotels app not a third party. She apologized and said that's all they had. I opened the app, and looked at rooms again, it still said there were 3 available and I let her know. She said, again, that third party apps aren't always accurate. I said again, that it wasn't a third party app but in fact the Choice Hotels app! We were kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place because the room was booked without the ability to cancel and I was exhausted from driving and spending the day in DC.
While the room was clean and "acceptable", with the acception of the tiny bathroom that required stepping between the toilet and sink to close the bathroom door, it was not the room I booked and if 3rd party apps cause this kind of issue then maybe this hotel should not allow third party apps to book hotels since in all the hotels we've stayed in over the years of our membership I have NEVER encountered this issue anywhere else. And if this is a problem then maybe IT needs to figure why there is such a time delay in rooms not getting updated. And I tried to tell IT about the issue but they insisted they couldn't help with booking issues because they don't have access to members and guests bookings. It wasn't necessarily a booking issue but an app issue that can't keep up with third party bookings.
Needless to say, at this point, I won't be staying at this...
Read moreWe recently stayed at the Comfort Suites in Glen Allen, Virginia during the Big Shots tournament weekend, and while the location served its purpose due to limited availability, the overall experience was disappointing and left much to be desired.
Upon entering the room, there was an immediate and unpleasant mildew smell that lingered throughout the room making the space feel far from fresh or welcoming. The housekeeping staff did come in and spray disinfectant and mopped the floor to no avail because the scent came back. It was clear that the room had not been thoroughly cleaned or aired out prior to our arrival. The cleanliness standards were noticeably lacking—especially in the bathroom, which appeared neglected. There were visible signs of mildew around the tub and tiles, and the shower head itself was in particularly poor condition, with a grimy buildup that made it feel unsanitary and unfit for use. These maintenance and hygiene issues gave the impression that this property is overdue for a deep cleaning and renovation.
The bathroom’s appearance and condition were honestly unacceptable for a hotel operating under a reputable brand like Comfort Suites. Fixtures were aged and the overall atmosphere was more in line with a budget motel than what one would expect from a mid-range chain.
That said, there were a couple of positive aspects. The check-in process was efficient, with friendly front desk staff who got us into our room quickly, which was appreciated after a long day of tournament games. Additionally, the room itself was quite spacious, offering plenty of room to move around—something that can be a plus when traveling with family.
Ultimately, this location was the only option available due to nearby hotels being sold out for the tournament, but it wouldn’t be my first choice again unless significant updates and improvements are made. Comfort Suites has the potential to offer a comfortable and reliable experience, but this particular property is not living up to the brand’s...
Read moreFirst getting a room via the phone service was HORRIBLE! It took forever and that alone would make me avoid this hotel chain. Once we got to the hotel it seemed like the front desk staff didn't even know what they were doing. Not only did they give us the wrong room, but there were already people in the room they gave us! SO we had to go back down and wait in a long line just to get another room that didn't have people in it. It wasn't until this point that they mentioned the pool and hot tub were closed. One of the only reasons we even booked this hotel was for the pool, it would have been helpful to know that before paying. We had been driving in the car for hours and specifically wanted a pool for the kids to get some energy out in. Along with the other things mentioned, this put it over the top making me not want to go back. I feel like the website and the person I booked with were misleading and simply interested in getting our money.
The room was large and had enough space for us. However, even though the room had 4 beds it only had 2 towels. They also didn't have a pillow or blanket for the pull-out bed. We called and were asked to go downstairs and get the towels, but they couldn't provide us with another pillow and blanket. Lucky we had brought an extra blanket in the car with us or one of us would not have even had a blanket.
The breakfast was nothing to write home about. I know not to expect much from a continental breakfast, but everything was just so manufactured and stale. The sausage patties were so hard you could barely bite them which was honestly a good thing because I don't think I have ever had a sausage taste so bad before. Save yourself the trouble and get a $2 breakfast sandwich at Mcdonalds which sadly would have been more nutritious and edible than what they provided. I would absolutely not recommend this hotel to anyone and I feel like there should be a warning about lack of service...
