Plaza Azteca Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Virginia

We came here because Google had this restaurant rated with 4.2 Stars. I honestly do not know why because when we arrived we asked to sit on the patio. Because no one was out there, which was kind of confusing because it was a wonderful evening. We were told by the Host that they were understaffed. He then asked us if we would like to sit inside. My response was I guess we don't have a choice. The restaurant was very loud with all the people talking not to mention the music was very loud. My wife and I went to the restroom first to wash up. I noticed as we were walking to our table that there were three male servers standing around doing nothing with their hands folded in front of them. The restaurant was only about half full. When I came out of the restroom I went to the table and chips and salsa had already been brought to the table. I tried a chip and it was cold, greasy, chewie, almost stale. The salsa was mediocre. As I sat and watched, as I waited on my wife, I noticed those servers who were standing doing nothing, chatting and laughing with each other. At which point I decided we were not going to stay. I got up and went and stood by the pink tree waiting for my wife to come out of the bathroom. As I was standing there, a female server came out of the bathroom and was fixing her hair. As she walked past me my thought was she should have done that in the bathroom and then washed her hands. About a minute later another female server walked out of the bathroom and was tucking in her shirt and fixing it in the back. My thought was she should have done that in the bathroom and then washed her hands. I then observed two more male servers standing over by the podium, talking to the host, chatting, and laughing. My thoughts were...Really to be so understaffed, yet they have time to chat, laugh, and talk to each other...hmmm. About that time my wife came out of the bathroom and I told her let's go and she did not question. As we walked out by the host the servers didn't say a word to us. As we were walking out to the vehicle my wife asked what happened and I told her. She then told me that the female servers who were in the bathroom were chatting and fixing their hair, and never washed their hands that she saw....

My family and I went here on the 3rd of July while I was in town. Bad decision! I was on the phone so my family entered first. When I followed, the smell of the place nearly knocked me off my feet! It smelled like they cleaned with dirty rags and a mildewed mop. It was bad. Somehow only one of my family members smelled it. Since everyone else was hungry, we stayed. There were seven of us on two checks and the waitress could not keep it straight. It was ridiculous. Some of us got the wrong food. My mom and 3 year old nephew didn't even get their food until a busboy walked by and realized they were the only people at the table without plates. Then guess what? They got the wrong food! Not only that, the waitress spilled my water on me and my nephew when she was bringing it to the table. Okay, accidents happen. The problem was she didn't clean it up and didn't give me any napkins to clean it up myself. At this point I'm livid! Who spills drinks on their customers and does nothing to clean it up?! It wasn't just a few drops. It was a third of the cup on us, the floor, and the table. She had the nerve to look at me as though I was out of line for asking for napkins! This is why I usually pick the restaurants to visit when I come to town. I would've never chosen that place to begin with and I most certainly will never go again. My family said they enjoyed their food. The checks were messed up. I won't go into detail because that'll be another full paragraph. It was a nightmarish meal. I left there with a headache, irritated with the staff...

First things first, the food was EXCELLENT! I got the veggie fajitas, might have been the best ive had. queso was yummy, tableside guac wonderful. All of the food was really good. We visited on a Saturday afternoon, before the dinner rush. Seated promptly, but that is the last time I would have considered the service adequate. There were lots of servers holding the walls up and having quite the time with their phones. Took about 10 minutes, maybe longer, to get a server to come by our table; got the drink order in and perhaps another 10 minutes goes by and the server returns with our drinks and asks to take our order. Bla bla bla ... food arrives, ran by someone other than our server. Order was missing a couple of items, including the tortillas for the fajitas ... waited what seemed to be 5-10 min again before our server came by to ask about the meal. Ok so we made the best of the evening, was with friends so we chatted, used the tortilla chips as a replacement. Asked for the check, again about another 5-10 min delay which was also repeated on paying the bill also. meal could have been amazing, service completely soured this experience at virtually ever step. if some of the wall flower servers could have spared a moment out of their socializing to swing around the restaurant to inquire on how the guests were doing regardless if it was their table or not would have fixed 90% of the...
