This motel is horrible! I will walk you through a step by step description of our room. First of all, the “shared balcony” is actually the only access to the rooms on the first floor with a couple of plastic chairs added. So if you are out on the “balcony” anyone going to or leaving their room will be walking passed you. Be prepared to stand for passersby or your feet may be stepped on. On entering the room, (109) you will see the king size bed which slants downward from the foot of the bed toward the head of the bed. The mattress has two depressions, one on each side, made by previous guests. The carpet is heavily stained, so we kept our socks on in the room. After a couple of hours the soles of our socks were dirty, proving the carpet was dirty as well as stained. There were two recliners in the room. They were both heavily stained and very dirty. I suggest covering them with towels before sitting on them. The curtains gap when closed, so if privacy is important to you, you should bring along safety pins or some type of clamp to keep them closed.
Next, you will see the kitchenette. I would neither store food in it, nor eat food that had been prepared in it. The freezer compartment in the refrigerator had two inches of ice that had some creepy, yellow slime embedded in it. The cupboards had a fowl order and the double sink for washing dishes was in the bathroom. If you know about fecal matter aspiration from flushing a toilet you will probably not want to eat off dishes washed in the bathroom. The stove was greasy. The drip pans beneath the burners had thick accumulations of ash and crumbs and the bottom of the oven was covered with grease and spills.
The bathtub has no calking and it was apparent that water from the shower had seeped under the vinyl flooring. I would be very cautious if you have mold allergies or sensitivities. There is also a very pronounced leak from the sink. There was a puddle that ran from under the counter to the door just from washing our hands and brushing our teeth. We chose not to use the shower or bathtub, so I can’t comment on the amount or the consistency of hot water.
The room does have an ocean view. You can see an expanse of blue ocean, but not the waves or the beach. There are three hot tubs between the motel and the beach, but considering our room’s level of cleanliness, we were not willing to risk using them.
Our reservation was for three days. Upon seeing the room, we contacted other motels hoping to find a vacancy, but we needed a pet friendly room and there was nothing available, so we spent the night. The staff at the reception desk was polite and listened to our concerns. We canceled the remainder of our reservation and were charged a cancellation fee.
If I were able to give this motel a lower rating than one star I would have done so. Because we were unable to find another room, we had to return home and our vacation was ruined after putting a considerable amount of planning, time, and expense...
Read moreCheck-in was a DISASTER, both ladies could not get their computers to "work" they just got a turning blue circle...then one went to her laptop which worked but then the other said "now mine works, so they were able to check me in... I sent 2 emails 2 weeks ahead of my arrival & 2 days before my arrival asking about my stay, nearby things & about my another site question...BOTH emails went IGNORED & UNRESPONDED. I got to my room, the left window (facing the window from the inside) had NO screen and BOTH windows we wide open which allowed bugs on the ceiling which I had to dispose of before being comfortable in bed. The view from the window of "Oceanview" is not what they claim...between your room and the ocean is a parking lot, a garden, an area built with hot tubs, then the sand & THEN the ocean...it's misleading to say the least. The room itself looks clean & feels lux but the beds are HARD AS ROCK, bring a mattress pad or baffle-box feather bed topper or something & you will THANK me later. There was NO air conditioning, just a cheap black oscillating fan FILTHY DIRTY, (see photos) with a US quarter stuck inside the greate from a previous guest. Every surface was clean, microwave/fridge worked, lamps/electricity had no issues, but the PHONE DID NOT WORK...THAT concerned me since there was a recent wildfire nearby...the front desk did NOT tell me & I told them the morning of my check-out but they did not seem to care...I was literally able to pull the cord out of the handset (I tried to repair it but it was beyond repair, it needed a replacement handset, not just a cord plugged in). Cable TV was not great, they had HBO which was nice but some of the basic channels were grainy & came in like 1990s TV antenna stations on bad weather days...that makes NO sense since they could call the provider & get them to clear the signal or diagnose the issue if it was wiring in the wall needing to be replaced or whatever the cause is...WiFi was FAST 30MB/sec so NO complaints there... The front door did not seal correctly, you could see daylight all around the door, which isn't a big deal unless you mind wasting electricity on heating...HOWEVER the key given did NOT lock the deadbolt so I was ONLY able to protect my stuff with the trust of a Kwikset handle lock when we left which did NOT make me feel like my motel room was secure. Upon waking I asked for a late Check-out which was granted, I appreciate that immensely as my back was severely sore from the bed & I needed extra time to get out of there... Overall I don't think I would come back, I would pay more to stay elsewhere, or go camping to enjoy outdoors. I guess I am appreciative not to have had to sleep in my vehicle while down here but since I was taking a vacation day I spent more than I usually would to stay here in an Oceanview room and was VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH...
Read moreIf I could give this place negative stars, I would. Awful!!! Checking in and the girl at front desk was apathetic and made us feel like we were bothering her. She had some guy hanging out with her and they acted like we were interrupting them. It was awkward. Should have been our first clue… We stayed in Monterey room — cabin until with ocean view. It’s set back very far from beach and while trees are beautiful they blocked sunset view. While we had an ocean view through the trees, that’s only because my husband had to clean the filthy sliding door for us to see out. Too many bugs and dirty on patio outside so watched it from inside. Screen door had huge hole around handle so forget leaving that open. The room itself was super gross. It’s really big but only two small chairs and a tiny end table. Didn’t make sense for such a big space. Fireplace was wood burning but there was a plastic bag of trash inside it, wood chips everywhere inside and outside it, all over floor too. One small piece of wood in a very dirty box that looks like it should be outside. If we had known we needed wood for the fireplace we would have picked some up but it was too late to hunt wood down (at 4 pm on a Friday…not much open). Every other hotel provided a clean fireplace and wood if it needed it. Showed me this hotel just didn’t care. Room ended up having ants everywhere. My husband proceeded to also clean bathroom counter and kill ants to get it under control. Towel hanging by door had yellow stains on it—I thought it was used but my husband said it was stained…but why would you put that kind of towel out? Walls were very dirty!! All around the door trim, entire wall in bathroom, baseboards, etc…just so gross. While sitting on bed I noticed a bunch of stains running from ceiling to floor. Looks like ceiling leaked, then something gross ran down walls…and they left it this way! Also, whoever did the “update” to room did not do a good job. The king bed mattress was super soft but hung off the edge of the box springs because they hung the headboard too low and the mattress wouldn’t fit under it. Some baseboards put on wrong so sticking out—sharp hazard—and some missing altogether. Some bathroom tiles missing grout. Just awful. We ended up leaving a day early. I doubt they even cared. Seems no one...
