Gold Beach bbq is a must try. I wasn't expecting to love this as much as I did. the fries and the ribs were definitely the blue star winners, the sauce was a bit sweet, but honestly none of the meat needed it. the mac and cheese lovely with some green chilies in there which made it pop. great chowder. #goldbeach #traveloregon #oregoncoast #southernoregon #fyp

I've been looking for some good BBQ and found this place online while I was about 30 miles away. I drove the 30 miles in my little RV and struggled to find easy parking. Not exactly their fault... the lot behind the building has plenty of spots just not big and long spots - a hot tip for RVers who want to eat here is that the shut down old Dairy Queen up the road has plenty of parking... which makes for a short walk to the establishment. Having never been into this place before, I was slightly confused about how to approach the counter. Everyone in the building was seated but I wanted to order my food to go. A youngster with blonde hair and blue eyes explained the ropes to me in a friendly manner. I could be seated and be served or I could order my food to go at the counter. I decided to give it a go based on the reviews and ordered about 50 bucks worth of food. I ordered a half rack of ribs and a full pound of brisket... as well as a small drink. Also left a nice tip for the friendly service. The place isn't cheap but not many restaurants these days can be described as such - let alone one specializing in meats. I get it. My only hope was that I would get what I paid for. Getting my meal into my RV I decided to dig in. The half rack of ribs were just that... felt like I got the small end of the rack sadly - but they were still good ribs. I'm usually a feind for good BBQ sauce and will slather it on everything - but I ate these ribs with just the dry rub that came on them. I was NOT disappointed by the taste or texture. They were well cooked - and the seasoning was on point. Some seasoning chunks were a little thick and got stuck in my teeth but that was easy to fix. The 1lb of brisket was cooked perfectly. This is how you want your brisket cooked. HOWEVER! There is such a thing in this BBQ world as ordering your brisket "LEAN" which I forgot to do... the 1lb of brisket came out about 25 - 30% fat capped. Brisket is a fatty cut of meat and this was my fault for not being specific to what I wanted. It was 30 bucks for the lb - and so I basically paid 10 bucks for fat on top of my brisket. Lesson learned and not the establishments fault. 2/3 of that brisket was absolutely fire and I really do look forward to returning and getting a lb of lean brisket from these folks. Finally, I want to give a shout out to the owner. I don't know his name but I knew it was him. He was a tall, older gentleman - and he was going from table to table asking customers how their food was... and if they needed refills on their drinks. Geez... can you imagine if this was standard practice in our restaurants. I was blown away by a man who obviously has a successful business, and most likely all the money he needs because of it, going out of his way to give solid customer service. After witnessing this, even if the food wasn't good, I would have supported this place. He is older... you can tell his body probably doesn't move like it did when he was younger - but he's still out here offering to get his customers drink refills. Salute to you sir... a massive salute to you. You run a business how it should be run and I left with not only an appreciation for the food here - but also with a massive amount of respect for how this man cares about his business. You sir are a legend of an owner. Also, a shout out to a manager named John. I actually called in this morning to get some clarification on things - like if lean brisket was an option... and the parking solutions in the area. He was very helpful. Look forward to meeting you on my next visit John. All in all... this was a very worthy effort - a very worthy 50 bucks spent. I didn't eat everything in one sitting as I'm not quite fat enough to do so yet. I ate about half of what I got and then made sandwiches of the rest. BBQ is not cheap - good food is not cheap... if you're going to spend your hard earned money on good food - this is a good place to do it. See you all again soon.

First time in Gold Beach and while we were looking for a place to have lunch we stumbled upon this gem of a place. Everything we tried including the salad dressing is made right there and the food quality reflect that. "Mabel" does a great job smoking any cut of meat she is given. We tried the brisket, chicken and bacon in the chef salad. The salad was fresh and amazing tasting. We also ordered the pastrami sandwich. The bread is soft and perfectly toasted and you get plenty of pastrami on it. Then we got a side of chili, which was tasty . Thick and loaded with pieces of the brisket. We also tried the chowder. Which one would not think to find at a BBQ joint, but it is super super tasty. Order a cup you will not be disappointed. Finally got dessert. We ordered the bread pudding and seriously if nothing else go in and order that! Go for just dessert, if you have already eaten. Cannot recommend this place enough. And the bonus...great, friendly service.. Give it a try you won't be disappointed. Just go hungry. I

Recently I had the opportunity to hire Gold Beach BBQ for a family event in Brookings and I was very impressed - as were the people in attendance.

We planned for 75 people and I probably should have only purchased food for 50 - there was SO MUCH LEFT OVER. I worked with John before the event and he suggested a menu that included potato salad, smoked Mac-n-cheese, pulled pork and brisket for small sandwiches on small, Hawaiian buns. I really wanted a fresh fruit salad as well - and he assured me that they would find the freshest fruit available the day of the event.

We arranged to have the food delivered in servile containers, with a supply of paper plates, napkins and cutlery. They even went to the $1 store and bought large serving utensils for us. The owner of the company actually delivered everything! It worked out perfectly.

He was exactly on time with the food and even offered to help serve the food for the $25/pp cost. But I declined as it wasn't that kind of event. So he left everything - including the large warmers that kept the food hot/warm for up to 2-3 hours!! They trusted me to return the warmers (although they did have my credit card number, LOL).

Got great compliments on the food - and John was correct...the smoked Mac-n-cheese was absolutely the highlight! Fruit salad was a nice combo and was a perfect compliment to the savory. Brisket was the favorite meat by far although the pulled pork was good as well.

One of my relatives who lives in Brookings "found" Gold Beach BBQ and I'm so glad she did! Highly recommend and now can't wait to try their other food out when I'm in Gold Beach next.

Excellent...

Nice cozy place, when you walk in you feel comfortable; the design is simple and well set up. Our server was very nice but uneducated on the menu. I asked if the ribs were pork or beef and he didn’t know (easy question). Brisket was cooked quite well and mac-n-cheese was seasoned well and had a nice smoke flavor; however the ribs were undercooked (just a little tough not raw) and the coleslaw tasted like it was made yesterday even though it had really good flavor. Biscuit was well salted, good fat content and baked almost perfectly, yet to my dismay it was stone cold upon arrival. Being born and raised in the south I know a biscuit and it should be warm.

The only thing that makes this review a 3 and I’m being kind is that the bathroom I went into had no toilet paper or paper towels. As I can’t describe to you gracefully how I had to use the paper towels from the trash I’ll let you assume what I had to use them for. I didn’t appreciate having to get creative in a restroom of an establishment where I’m a customer.

Altogether not too bad besides the bathroom incident, which was interesting because the place looked quite clean. Would recommend because Gold Beach is a culinary desert right next to the beach, just know it’s a little bit pricey for what...
