The bathroom is filthy, the bed is hard as a rock, the sink and taps are dirty and not wiped down, there is HAIR on the light switch and in the sheets, the hair dryer is filthy and looks like it has hair dye in it, the carpet is gross, smells bad, the room is externally outdated, the trim and doors have food residue on them and the window sills are black with filth. The wall heater is crumbling and rusty, the air quality feels stuffy and dusty, there’s no one to help you at the front desk if you need an extra blanket or misplace your room key, there’s chips in the wall, the paint, there’s cobwebs, dust, overall the bathroom and the carpet is the worst part.
I have unfortunately encountered very poor attitude from the receptionist and am very unpleased with the experience and I’ve been here for 10 minutes
I booked this room for $200 and arrived at 10pm. When I arrived I unfortunately had to wait 10 minutes for someone to come from the darkness to help me. There was no one at the desk, no one answering the phone, and no room key for me in the drop box after my credit card had been charged.
Once the man arrived he walked up to my car asking me aggressively if I was checking in. I said yes and he said he has no vacancy. There is CLEAR vacancy on the website STILL available to purchase online. Not to mention there are multiple rooms with king size beds empty with the lamp on the windows open right next to my room where I have a small bed and and a small room, with two people, when there is CLEARLY empty king size beds RIGHT in front of my parking spot and I was denied a king bed when I requested.
In my room the vent fan is covered in filth and rust and the room the smells of must. The shower curtain is stained and the the rod is rusted to black.
The bed is outrageously uncomfortable and the carpet along the floor is very dirty.
When I tried to book the room over the website, the price changed right in front of my eyes and jumped 30$, and then directly after booking it rocketed back down to the original price… I asked the front desk receptionist about this and he laughed in my face and made no comment.
I asked the receptionist where the hot tub is and what time it is open and all he would say was “it’s closed it will be open first thing in the morning”, when I asked exactly what time it was opened since I am traveling on the road and wanted to enjoy an amenity and he scowled and got annoyed and short with me and said 9am, which is far from “First thing “ in the morning.
The rudeness of the receptionist blew my mind. I’m traveling and came to this place for a comfortable experience and time to enjoy and am throughly disappointed in the treatment I’ve been given. From scowling, laughing at me, not answering my question, denying me a king bed saying the hotel is full when it’s not, overcharging and not being made aware there would be no one at the front desk was very frustrating and a major concern of mine
The website right now is available to take my money but I almost didn’t even get a room because there was no one here to get my key, if this happened to someone else right now i nightly doubt they would get any help, I’ve called the front desk multiple times with no answer
I’m not one to complain, but this was outrageous. From being talked down to, lied to, and mad feel uncomfortable and unwanted, I will never stay here again, nor recommend this location to a single soul.
This hotel is not nice enough to over charge me and treat me inferiorly, I would much rather have stayed...
Read moreMy review is specifically for a single queen bed economy room. Overall, I’d say it’s definitely worth the value and I do not regret coming here, though I’m not sure I’d stay in this exact room again.
Pros include the low price, ample space in the room, and awesome shower with great temperature control and water pressure. Our room had 2 large mirrors, a desk, and a large sink/kitchenette area which was nice for getting ready in the morning. The property has great access to the beach and the light show was a fun touch. I also felt super safe here due to the way the property is laid out and the town seems to get pretty quiet at night, which is great. Additionally, the staff were all friendly and kind.
Cons include the bed, the cleanliness, and the advertised amenities.
Bed: When we booked the single queen room, I mentioned my teenage sister as a third person and the staff graciously offered a cot. Upon arrival I mentioned the cot to the front staff and she said it would be a couple of hours, so we waited patiently. Around 9:30pm we were getting ready for bed and still no cot, but a call down to the office quickly solved that problem. Unfortunately when she brought the cot, she informed me there were only kid sized cots left and it was just too small. On top of that, it was a super uncomfortable cot, no mattress pad, just some PVC pipes and a thin nylon sling. On our second day, we asked if they could replace the kid cot with an adult cot when someone checked out, but when we got back later that evening, nothing had changed. Understandable if one didn’t become available, but would have at least appreciated a call from the hotel informing me.
The queen bed itself was not very comfortable either. I’m good at sleeping almost anywhere, so I managed to get some shut eye, but if you’re anything like my travel mates, you might look elsewhere.
Cleanliness: As soon as we walked in the room, there was a piece of stray hair on the bedsheets. No problem, we wiped it off. The shower window had quite a bit of dust/debris/gray stuff collecting, but kind of to be expected in an older room like this one. Again, we didn’t mind too much, but something to be aware of.
Amenities: The cable TV didn’t work at all, but we didn’t bother calling the front desk because 1) expected this from reading reviews and 2) we were there to sleep not to watch TV. The refrigerator is pretty small and old (like 20+ years) and didn’t get very cold. The wifi was not good at all from our room, so we ended up using our personal data. Also, if you’re a light sleeper you should be aware that the walls are pretty thin (though guests were very considerate during our stay) and the water heater pipes that line the room can get pretty loud when they go off at night.
Overall, I think this place has a lot of charm and awesome features. I do think it’s a great value for the price. Might stay again in one of their townhomes, which look to be...
Read moreThe Negative: Why 3 and not 4? Overall impression: Struck us as slightly off, or inconsistent...or a little strange. Allow me to elaborate.
We would definitely return if in Gold Beach again.
The sad truth is that most of these southern coast properties are struggling and their condition shows this. Pacific Reef, while a bit expensive, does offer a step up from the surrounding, competing properties. While all of them seem over-priced relative to other prme destinations, The Reef isn't as bad and does seem to be trying.
My advice as a seasoned traveler: Sell the walk-up theater. Use proceeds to install attractive,...
