I'm sure we all feel the need to get away after the year we've all had! We were feeling in desperate need for a getaway and decided to book a 5 night trip to Grand Marias.
The hotel rooms are AMAZING. We went in off season (April) and many of the restaurants were closed or had very limited hours - we were in a suite and it had a kitchen. We made most of our breakfasts and dinners at the hotel. The in-suite kitchens had everything we needed (and more) for all the food we made!
The fact that this was a dog friendly hotel without much restriction really gave the hotel a special place in my heart. My dog loved the outdoor space with the beach steps from the back door. I loved that when I left the hotel without doggy bags I could just go to a station outside of the door instead of going back into my suite.
WiFi was good, I had no issues.
The bed, at least in suite 105, was very uncomfortable after day 2. I'm thinking it was just old - very lumpy. That's the only reason I took a star off. If I only stayed the night for 2 nights I wouldn't have cared but since it was 5 nights of sleeping on the mattress it was brutal.
I would 100% stay at this hotel again. In fact, I'm already looking at dates...
Read moreGrand Marais, MN was the goal of our end of summer, nearly winter, mini getaway. We decided East Bay Suites would be wonderful and is right next to the lake, shops and restaurants, etc. We arrived at the front desk and were greeted with helpful and friendly information. Got up to our suite and instantly opened the windows to hear the magnificent sounds of the waves just feet away from our balcony. It really is worth it for the view and lovely room. Our reason for four stars is we didn't quite understand that the fireplaces weren't gas but more like heaters that give the illusion of fire. We were hoping for actual fire as we generally like to spend time near a fire in the evenings. Not so here. Also, the beds are slightly small with older bedding but certainly not horrible, just not as upscale as you might think for the money you're spending. Walls are a little thin and if people are running their washer and dryer, the room will shake for a time. These are nit picky things, I know. But reasons again for the four stars. Speaking of stars. ..this is the place to see them if you haven't...
Read moreWe rented the 3-BR suites for our 3 days stay in Grand Marais. The check-in process was easy, and the staff was friendly. If one needs to use the cart, one must park the car in the back lot to have access to the luggage cart and the use of the elevator. The hallway is narrow and "twisty" at some places to navigate the cart. The room is spacious, albeit the wall is kind of thin. The WiFi could be better (I know: you're on vacation and need to unplug. My argument: if a place provides WiFi access, I expect the service to be good). The water pressure is good and the hot water is hot! The lighting in the kitchen could be brighter (track lighting does not help) as we do use it to prep our meals. The nice touch: the hotel provide a list of items that you can select if you need to have more - just fill out the list, place in the provided basket and leave it outside of your room when you leave in the morning exploring the area. The view of Lake Superior is fantastic and we experienced a beautiful moonrise last evening. We'd come...
