An utterly amazing & delicious stay with wonderful & welcoming innkeepers, Ken & Ruth. Ruth is an incredible baker & cook (Ken helps too!) - we had one of the finest hot b'fasts we've had in the USA. Creative, delicious, generous, and beautifully served buffet style. I tried everything and loved it all.
Ruth also baked various welcoming goodies for afternoon tea or evening dessert - also creative and delicious.
We were there for only one night but another couple told us that they had been staying for several days and the offerings were different every day!
The inn itself is a beautifully restored large home. The Leonard family made their fortune from their "icebox" invention in the late 1800's, and there's an example of one of the iceboxes in the spacious and comfortably furnished common area . The house has many interesting antique touches from the old days, but our room, though nostalgic in furnishing, was very comfy by modern standards - fully functioning and fast wifi, good water pressure with lots of hot water, generous toiletries, sufficient outlets for charging our phones, keyless entry, thoughtful storage, and very clean. There were many thoughtful details such as a glass in the bathroom medicine cabinet, and bottled water (with glasses) for the room.
As others have pointed out, the neighborhood is very beautiful. The Frank Lloyd Wright Meyer May House is just a half block away! Lots of beautifully painted homes with lovely gardens. There is plenty of free street parking so we had no problem finding a spot for our car.
We travel frequently and have stayed in all kinds of lodgings all over the world. Because of covid, we decided to explore our midwestern back yard, so to speak (we live in Chicago), and have been pleased to find some lovely B&B's and inns, but The Leonard at Logan is truly exceptional.
BTW Grand Rapids is a very nice small city. We enjoyed its Meyer May House, art museum, river walk, public art, Meijer Gardens, restaurants,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIt was a TREAT to stay at The Leonard At Logan. They have changed our game as far as where we rest our heads for vacations. So much so that we have a wedding next month in CA, that we are reconsidering our lodging. My husband and I went for a quick overnight getaway. With no reservations anywhere, we just drove until we were in Grand Rapids. We opened our phones looking for Bed and Breakfast accommodations when we saw The Leonard House. It was 10 minutes from our location. We rang the doorbell and Ruth welcomed us. (We Do NOT advise not having reservations. Thankfully, there was room at the inn). To which, Ken immediately gave us a tour of the house and shared information about what's local and has delicious food.
There is a 24 hour snack area stocked with homemade pastries, baked by Ruth, an expensive hot drink machine that grinds and makes fresh coffee, expressos, cappuccinos, hot chocolate and more. If you get hungry in the evening there are bagels, oatmeal, popcorn and other items available in the snacking area. Also the 24 hour drinking station was stocked with Coke cola, LaCroix, V8 and soooo much more. Let me say, I do not like bananas, but Ruth baked a delicious Banana cake. I sampled my husband's.
Both Ken and Ruth asked if we have dietary restrictions, I stated dairy. Let me say, we came to breakfast and every item except one was dairy free. The oat and date pancakes with homemade orange syrup was the best! Chicken sausage, fresh fruit, a potato and carrot breakfast medley, dairy free Morning Glory muffins, eggs with topping station and an egg roll that I was not supposed to have, but sampled my husband's ;)
I am off this week and have planning to do, I am considering a return visit if they have room.
Excellent service, excellent food, comfortable room and bed. Go for the FOOD at the Leonard House and the hospitality. Ruth can open her own bakery and restaurant!
Thank you...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHighly recommend this beautiful house and lovely hosts! Upon arrival, we received a quick tour with important information about the house then were brought to our room and left to settle in while letting us know that they and the common spaces were available if we had any questions or wanted to socialize. Between the online concierge thatās available after booking, the hosts providing updates by text, the quick tour when we arrived and the information in the room, we had all the information we needed and a lot of great recommendations about the area.
We went out for the evening, returning very late and really appreciated the available snacks (homemade blackberry almond scones among other options) and drinks before bed. We woke up the next morning to the smell of French toast and bacon, and were treated to an amazing 5āļø breakfast with the other guests. It was easily the best breakfast I've ever had with omelette roll-ups, perfectly spiced breakfast potatoes, a soft french toast bake, and thick crispy bacon!
I will be looking for future excuses to travel to Grand Rapids knowing there is such an amazing place to stay!
3 VERY minor complaints: the whole house exudes luxury, except that the toilet paper is single ply, a commodity I only associate with gas station washrooms. there are coasters on the bedside tables with religious sayings that could be offensive or non-inclusive in an otherwise welcoming environment. they almost lost our business because only a couple rooms include the upgraded bathtubs in the description/photos and these rooms were already booked. However, we didn't find a better option within walking distance of the arena so booked anyway then was surprised to find that our ātub/shower comboā was a soaker tub too. Lesson: bring your bath...
