I don't usually do the whole motel thing. Usually I am with my family in which case we prefer to get a hotel with all the fixings, or I am traveling for work in which case they are paying and usually spring for a hotel. In this case, Sunday night was relevant to work but I decided to come to the area early as I love Door County. Easies to just find somewhere cheap for the two nights on my own dime and extend to business usage for the last night.
I was pleasantly surprised though. The actual room felt like I was stepping into my apartment circa. 1995. Oak trim and furnishings, I swear they stole the tile, tub, and everything else out of my apartment from 1995. But woah there..... they didn't just leave everything from 1995 (or before) and let it rot. Everything is well maintained. Walls are definitely painted on a regular/as needed basis. And done properly. Furniture in excellent condition, as is the carpeting. Parking lot in great condition as is the building in general, along with lobby and restaurant. And I had an actual key!!! Old school. So rather than think of the hotel as "dated". think of it as "loved/preserved".
The only negative thing I could say was that I went to the restaurant at 8:30pm on Saturday night and it was closed. Yes, it does say so on their literature but it just didn't register with me that a restaurant would be closed at 8pm on a Sat. night. But woah there again..... not being from the area, I don't have a grasp on the area demographics and whether it is viable for them to be open past 8pm on a Saturday night. I did go to the restaurant on Sunday morning and it was HOPPING! Obviously a popular place. I went on Monday morning as well but not quite as busy. Which is to be expected. It is a local restaurant so the local crowd would go in on Sunday morning but not Monday. The food and service was awesome on...
Read moreRoom 125 is musty but basic & clean. I asked if they had bathtubs in any of the available rooms because room 125 only had a stand-up shower. We paid to upgrade to room 161, which also had 2 double beds & a small sitting area - it was musty as well but a bit less so & clean.
When we entered both rooms, the a/c was on & set at 70 degrees. I believe the mustiness might come from the individual room a/c + fan units because when we were in the 2nd room & I changed it from a/c to fan only, the same musty smell was blowing out, so I quickly changed it back to a/c. Each room had a couple packaged soaps & at least 1 travel shampoo bottle.
I liked the convenient central location! And the reception desk is very helpful & friendly!! Next to the front desk, they have ice inside the counter with big plastic clear cups & a big carafe of coffee with styrofoam cups, creamers & sugar.
At check-in, we received the wifi login pw & 2 coupons for $3 off at their restaurant (which the front office is attached to). We're generally not big eaters after waking up, but we used the coupons the following day toward a delicious Big Bay Bloody Mary, coffee & the Tuesday special $6 burger basket đ¤¤.
Check-out was super easy - just return both...
Read moreWe were in town for the Bears-Packers game( we are Packer Fans from Illinois). We were tired from coming up after work, and just wanted to drive around by Lambeau like we always do, get something to eat and relax till we meet friends on Saturday at an Airbnb. This was the first time we stayed here, and we could not have been happier!! Itâs an old throwback Motel, with an attached Restaurant. The rooms may have some years on them , but they are quaint, they are very clean, with very comfortable accommodations. We ate Dinner that night, and Breakfast in the Morning at the Restaurant. The service was with a smile, and the food was very good and plentiful! Everyone associated with the Motel was fantastic! If youâre looking for High End Accommodations, donât stay here. If youâre looking to jump back in time at an old fashioned Wisconsin Motel, this...
