I would give this place a wide birth. Our group had booked this place for years and told us how nice it was. However we booked 3 rooms last week to be told that 2 rooms were $70 and the other $60 which we thought was good and was right were we needed to be and check in would be from 11 am.|||| Tonight we tried to check in at 5 pm, when we were greeted with a very unfriendly, unhelpful man who was clearly not from America. I’m not from America either and not racist in anyway, just need to clear this up before people try to accuse me of being racist. ||Anyways.....the man started to check us in , we handed our credit cards over and other documentation, only to tell us our rooms weren’t ready as the people hadn’t checked out of 2 rooms and the 3rd the man was sick so was still using the room, and, if we waited for about an hour the rooms would be ready. We asked if there were other rooms Available he said ‘ yes, but they are $80 not including tax’ as he was having to move us to other rooms.||||We told him this wasn’t good enough as it wasn’t our fault. He said he was going to call his manager, he did just that, however spoke to her in a different language so we didn’t understand what he was saying, after a lot of discussion, he ran one of the cards for $80 as a cancellation charge as we wasn’t happy with the service and that they couldn’t offer us what we booked for. We told them we were calling the cops as they had stolen from us, luckily we managed to call the bank and stop the money.||||Whilst this was going on at check in some of our party was out side trying to figure out what we were going to do, when they realised the hotel was renting some of the rooms but the hour, if you get what I mean. In the hour we where there they saw a few people coming and going.||||Thankfully Days Inn just down the road saved our bacon and we managed to book in there for less the price and free breakfast too.||||So to sum things up....... DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT stay...
Read moreI used to work at the Golden Key for 3 years in the mid-1980s when it was owned by Earl and Beverly Tillman. Back then, the motel had a five star rating, and we and the Tillmans worked to keep it that way. ANY stained towel, chair or carpet was brought to attention of the Tillmans. ||||Recently, I went back to see if I could work for the current management as a favor, but for a part-time job (I need a part-time job so I can take care of an elderly relative). Well, they said "$4 per room," but after cleaning 3 rooms, I looked around and none of the ownership family members were found. The one woman (wife of owner?) told me that there "was no agreement for $4 - per room payment." I left without being paid the meazly $4 per room and worked for FREE without being paid! The work I did was what was expected when the Golden Key was in it's heyday, when people would come to the Motel because it was such a pleasure and comfort to just stay in. With all the great memories of my time at Golden Key, getting ripped off and not paid a lousy 12 bucks for cleaning 3 rooms has now left a bad taste. What I did notice is that the towels are probably the same as from the mid-1980s.||||If anyone else gets to own this fine motel, please consider hiring me for real wages! This poor motel needs REAL staff that know how to take care of the carpets, chairs, replace the aging towels and sheets. The reason for the bad quality is that the current ownership does not want to pay for staff. The beds are not professionally made, the carpets and chairs not cared for. but you will not get much better paying $4 a room -- or in my case --- getting cheated out of...
Read moreWe called the Golden Key a couple weeks before to reserve a room on the south end of the motel for May 21st - the receptionist said yes available and took our credit card info - May 21st, we called and said we would be late, about 7:30 pm. The rude with an attitude receptionist said they rented our room on the south end. We arrive and were given room 108! At a rate $10 more! Plus they charge a $5 room key fee! We were shocked! This room was on the north side, down this dirty, stinky smoke smelling, with dirty ceiling with a moldy, dirty panel hanging hallway! And it was scary! Opened the room door to a stinky smoke smelling room and the second security lock didnt work. After that hallway, guess how we felt!! And the room was not refurbished like the south end. The carpet was filled with dirty spots and lucky I had spray disenfectant . You ask, why did we stay, well, we were tired, didnt want to deal with the rude additude person and it was convienent to where we had to be early in the morning. We have stayed in this motel for over 15 years and never had this horrible experience. Heard they have new management and they are a dissapointment. We have asked for the $5 key fee back and the $10 over-charge for the room thye charged after they rented the room we thought we were getting. W e think they hoped we wouldnt show up and would get double rate for the south side room! How sad we have to write such a bad review but please be aware what has become of the Golden Key Motel. And also now they have a glass partion between you and the check-in person - what does that tell you? Not...
