As a fan of the Waukesha Meiji, I was looking forward to this new version opening. It is pricey for sure and could be at least $5 less per head, but the soft drinks are included, and the food is of some higher quality than typical buffet fare. I've seen other reviews of food that should be heated instead being cold. I made two plate trips and had a little of everything each time, and none of the options I picked were cold. I saw pans of food constantly being changed out. I had no issues with most of anything I had. The only criticism aside from being a bit costly, are the crab legs. Pre-pandemic you could easily find AYCE crab legs in various places numerous times per week. Those days are gone and places that do them now are rare or special events. I understand that the offering of them here isn't quite the same as an AYCE crab leg event, but management should at least make some quite simple changes to the presentation. The crab legs are served cold and, because they are smaller, are harder to open by hand both because they are cold and because they can be sharp. Serve them warmed. That is how people expect to eat crab legs off a buffet. We heard another patron take her crab legs to the hibachi chef and asked for them warmed up, and he refused. He said management wants to serve them cold. It's not what management wants in this case because that is not how they should be served. Customers and tradition says serve them warm. Also, offer the tools at every table so they can be easily cracked into. Lastly, we found no lemon or warm butter available nearby. No one wants to eat cold, hard to open, small crab legs with no dipping/dressing. I know people who were counting on my experience there who just wanted to know about the crab legs. When I told them what I just said, they were no longer interested in coming. Serving them warm with tools and butter are very simple changes. And if customers are asking you need to listen. Or just get them off the buffet altogether. The crab legs (food) and pricing (service) is where I'm knocking it down a star. Otherwise the rest of the experience is well done. And it is really nice inside as well. I'm looking forward to going back to try other items and the hibachi.
And note to people complaining about staff being weird. It's customary to leave your empty plates at the head of the table to be cleared. If you actively decide to leave them at the back of course they will reach over you. That is your own fault. And if I were dumb enough to leave my empty plate out of reach of staff, I wouldn't be negative about it in a review when they're doing their jobs. They need to constantly be rotating these plates to ensure clean plates are always available. Nothing sucks more than going to a buffet and they're behind on clean plates because people leave them out of reach and then decide to complain when they attempt to be retrieved. And its not "customary" to have them cleared when you vacate for another round. Every buffet I've eaten at if someone comes by and sees a plate its, "can I take that from you?" THAT is what is customary, normal and again, them...
Read moreHusband and I went for dinner on Saturday night we expected there would be a Wait time. However It took about 10 minutes before our waiter showed up to take our order. Both Husband and I ordered water as we cannot drink soda and the waitress tried to push for soda, but we told her no thank you again and she walked off. When we came back with our food, she was already coming back with our water. She threw the napkins at us and also threw utensils and walked off. The food was a mix between hot and cold. Some food that we had gotten was hot, and some of it was cold even though it was hot food. Some of it was still left under the heating lamps and was dried out. Husband was on his second plate and I was still on my first when our waitress came by again and gave us the bill. We did not ask for it nor were we done. We told her we were still eating and she picked up our bill again And placed it further away from the edge of the table to what she replied later later. we thought maybe this was the bill to give to the front desk when we were done and ready to leave. It was not it was the official bill. Our waitress was expecting us to pay the bill and leave, even though we were still eating and we had to take her. When we did finish our meal, she came back to the table with a electronic tablet to charge us. As it was only my husband and I we did not need to tip nor did we feel we needed to tip as the bill was already $78 and change. However, Our waitress again pushed for us to tip and pointed to the suggestion tip payment at the end of the receipt. I told her no I would not be paying $15 as a tip as there was only two of us. It is to be noted that larger parties of six or more automatically have gratuity tips included. She became angry and said that they would still take it out of our card and walked away. We left immediately right after as we did not want to engage in an argument. We do have our receipts and a screenshot of our bank account that says the $78 and change was taken out already. needless to say, we will not be...
Read moreOverall, my experience at Meiji was a very positive one. As soon as you walk into the restaurant, the atmosphere is unlike any other buffet in the Milwaukee area. Very modern, plenty of seating, and really spacious. The food quality overall was very good, with a great amount of variety compared to other buffets that are in the area. There were plenty of options, including hibachi, pho, sushi, sashimi, seafood, soup, etc. Some highlights being the sushi as well as the seafood shown. The pho broth was a bit bland unfortunately and left a bit to be desired, but the noodles were good and there were plenty of options for toppings and other ingredients.
In response to some of the criticism, they have put up signs at the front of the restaurant highlighting the all-day dinner prices, so expect to pay around $35/person from now until at least Oct. 26th.
One other item that I didn't mention was that unfortunately, the fork that I received before my meal was a bit dirty. I used their chopsticks instead, which come in separate packaging, but unfortunately there are no additional forks that you can grab from the buffet area. The only utensils you can grab are soup spoons and chopsticks.
Service was very attentive and polite, and even those who weren't assigned to my area checked in with me to make sure that everything was alright.
Overall, this buffet is a great addition to the Milwaukee area, and I genuinely believe that you get your money's worth while eating here. It's all you can eat, the quality overall is great, and they have a great variety of options that will satisfy just about everyone's appetites.
If the price is a bit high for some, I suggest waiting until after Oct. 26th, where the prices will go down to $20.99/person during the lunch hours.
(For reference, I came in around 11:10AM, and left...
