Paid $250 dollars for a room that was sandwiched between the noisy hwy 12 and the noisy camp ground filled with people screaming and running around till late in the night.
Do not get a room on road side you'll NEVER NEVER get to sleep due to the fact the cars make so much noise and oh yeah there is a gravel yard across the street where trucks show up at 7 am to load gravel. Not to mention the room (room 8, called a river view room, DO NOT GET)
There was no shower only the ability to take a bath (does not say that in the room advertisement) that bath tub had a broken valve and the hot water was soooo hot that I got scalded turning it on and then burned again because the actual pipe/valve gets red hot due to the hot water, I mean the water is VERT VERY HOT!. All you have the ability to do is use a hand held spray device if your are sitting in the tub but you need a screw driver lodged in the valve to turn it on and god forbid it slips back because you will have water being sprayed every where. In fact we went down stairs desperate to just take a shower at the "camp ground shower" (in the lower area of the Lodge) and only one shower head out of three was working. The other two were broken and not working REALLY?!
There is No TV and No cable, might be a good idea to list that you do not have this, just saying. Lastly the owner is NEVER there, there is a note on the counter 90 % of the time that says call him if you need something. My check-in was literally a Post-It note with my name on it (with 4 other guests "check-in Post-its") with my room code written inside on the counter when we entered. Every time I walked down stairs to exit people where either looking for him or just confused with the hand written note with his phone number literally on a manila envelop saying to call him if there were any problems.
There was No; "Welcome to the lodge your room is upstairs and oh yeah just as a note the water is hot, the valve is broken here is a screwdriver to turn it on and off, there is no TV and the room is kinda loud"
Now I understand that there are seasonal costs with operating a resort in this area but not having someone on site at all times or at least during business hours is kinda expected especially for $250 dollars a night! Not to mention a working bathroom and someone present to tell the campground to be quiet after 11 pm. I honestly felt like I was staying at a hostel with the noise from all directions, kids screaming in the hall ways and out side. It seems like the owner is trying to squeeze every dollar out of this place with out providing guest services that should come with a $250 dollar a night price tag. I give this one star. To the owner, You need to attend to your lodge or hire staff to man the counter so if there are questions or concerns they can be addressed. You need to be more forthcoming in your advertisement's of the room and your water is WAY TO HOT. It is dangerously hot and someone like a kid is going to burn...
Read moreThe communal log lodge is beautiful. It has an open kitchen, fireplace, piano, small library, long wooden table. There is no staff around at night, they are a phone call away and apparently one staff member is downstairs on-site if needed. Problems: PET FRIENDLY ROOM is SHABBY, $239.00 a night for a shabby old/antique room. It's hard to explain, it is ALMOST quaint antique but also shabby...however, for the price there should be SOMETHING in the room! No T.V., no fridge, microwave or coffee maker in the room. This would be fine as it is very tranquil overlooking the Russian River, but it is OVERPRICED. I appreciate they allow pets in the one room, and the place is very clean, but honestly, we are talking a Full Size bed, old shag rug...simply typical small room/bathroom. There was a BEAUTIFUL fireplace in the lodge, but "somebody would have to drive to Safeway for wood if guest wants a fire." The Hot Tub was nice & clean and overlooking the river, but it was cleaned so late in the day the tub was only at 94 degrees when we used it (cold December night) and it wasn't filled high enough. There is NO coffee maker in room, so we have to get dressed and go into the lodge and make our own coffee. If I have to make a pot of coffee for everyone it would be nice whomever takes the last cup would make another cup...seriously, coffee pot in room at least or have a staff member prepare a couple pots/thermoses for guests. There is a tether ball, cool wooden teeter-totter, weathered ping pong, nice river access/pier, BBQ, huge lawn area. The place is beautiful! But it is best suited for parties/weddings etc...just too overpriced for a small bed and self-service everything. There was no mid-week/winter rate. The next night, we stayed elsewhere in an OCEAN FRONT cottage, ALL in-room amenities, including a fireplace/wood provided and PERSONAL hot tub for the 10% off the usual $239.00 rate (YES, SAME RATE) but with ALL the amenities in-room provided. IF the GUERNEVILLE LODGE charged us a reasonable WINTER rate such as $149 a night, we would be back in a heartbeat, many, many times the Lodge is clean, beautiful setting and summertime I could understand higher rates, but again with zero in room amenities, not $239.00. The Lodge misses the "personal comfort touches." Staff should include wood for the fireplace, and at least make sure coffee is made in the morning if we have to leave our room just...
Read moreFirst time staying here and we camped for 2 nights. Apparently the ownership has recently changed so there are a few new employees. Check in was easy and the camp sites are first come first served so once you arrive you just grab an open spot.
The camp sites are really close together, and in some cases if two sites are occupied, the only option is tents right next your neighbors. The spaces include a shallow stone fire ring, a picnic table, and a portable BBQ grill. Theres no water service in the campground. If you want to use the restroom or wash dishes you have to walk up the stairs at the main lodge to do so.
Apparently the campground also has an issue with homeless people coming through. All the trash can lids are screwed shut so they don't take recyclables. We witnessed at least one or two people ride their bikes through the campground during the day, so don't leave any valuables out. The staff also comes around and takes all the left over firewood to then resell to the next campers. Kind of ruins a nice deed.
The lodge facilities are old but in decent shape. They have a library but you can't take the books out of the main room. The bathrooms are simple and old but standard for campgrounds. The back lawn is large and has room for many activities. There's a small stage that they show movies on sometimes. The back of the property runs along the river but only a small dock actually connects. On a busy day this could be a choke point. On the day we were there, there was a canoe to borrow, several lounge chairs and a bench built into the water with some floaties tied up.
Lastly I need to mention that on our last night, we were the only campers at the campground and apparently the only guests. Some staff had some friends over and I suspected that there was a lot of drug use going on in the lodge. They were pretty loud late into the night. They didn't directly bother us but it sort of ruined the night for us. Hopefully the new owner can turn this place around, but with so many choices on the river, I don't think we...
