Just returned from a week long stay middle of July. We stayed in a rustic “Blue Gill Camber Cabin” – the A-frame ones around the little pond, ours was KK13 on the map. Had a lovely stay, with only a few minor complaints. ||We have done rustic camping-type cabins in several states, in many different parks. These sites are great. The AC is welcome in the Summer months – and honestly this is the first camper-type cabin I’ve seen with AC! - the cabin also has a charcoal grill on the porch. I was a bit skeptical of how close they are to the pond edge….it’s more on the little pond than I had guessed from the map online & it seemed for sure we would be swarmed with mosquitos because of that – but I literally walked away after a week stay with only one single bite (they must spray for them). And listening to the frogs was actually a nice perk. For the rate being only slightly higher than the tent sites – I would highly recommend the camper cabins. Lots of space, slept 4 adults and two small children very comfortably. The kiddos loved climbing up the loft ladder too.||As far as the campground itself goes, I felt the bathroom facilities were very conveniently located. There is a row of three little bathrooms – they feel like outhouses with electric and plumbing – on one side of the pond, convenient to the big playground and large picnic shelter too. Easy walk from any of the Blue Gill cabins, even in the middle of the night. Then the shower house (same as the pool house) is just a little farther walk up the hill. The camp store is also in walking distance. We checked in on a Sat and for most of our stay everything – bathrooms and showers – felt quite clean and well taken care of. Unfortunately, on the following weekend, things started to get a little unsanitary. The park got busy on Thursday night, and was packed Fri & Sat. During those days the bathrooms did not seem anywhere near as well kept up (overflowing garbage, dirty toilets) – and the showers were grimy. I believe it just got busy and staff couldn’t quite keep up but it made me think they maybe need to change their cleaning schedule on weekends…||Also noted that the campground itself seemed to become a party spot as of Friday night. Lots of loud music, lit up lights around peoples cabins, lots of drinking. Felt like during the week we really had a family camping atmosphere, but that changed drastically for Fri & Sat. Thankfully the cabins are insulated enough that once we closed the door, the noise was not much of a bother.||We only did the pool during the week. It’s very nice that it’s indoors, nice little hot tub too (though only fits 5 at a time). We saw it fill up a few times, so I could see that maybe the pool gets too busy on weekends, but can’t say for sure as we only swam during the week. The camp store is well stocked – has almost anything you could have forgotten equipment-wise. Cute souvenir shirts too. I do wish they sold cold drinks and snacks, that would be a really nice addition. The playground behind the camp store is really nice and brightly colored – the kiddos with us spent some time there every day of our week-long trip.||There seemed to be plenty of extra parking space, even on the busy Fri-Sat. And in fact, the website says they only allow 2 cars on the cabin sites, and we noticed for our full stay nobody said a thing about that we had 3 at our cabin. I feel like the website sounds a lot stricter than the campground actually is or than they actually enforce, which is nice.||As far as the activities offered by the park – we only did the go-carting. My kiddo had fun, but the price for 5 mins didn’t quite seem...
Read moreClean, affordable prices, lots to do, and really a good time! Some of the staff (younger kids) were a little rude. The bus driver who took us back to our car almost killed us when a truck in front of him had giant flamingo tubes come flying off but wasnt bus drivers fault, I guess. The bus did smell pretty awful. Bathrooms were clean. A little unorganized as far as staffing goes and when your on the river it would be helpful for new people to put signs up at the forks to let people know which way is more of a tougher course and which way to the landing. I havent been since I was a kid & it was my husbands first time so we was all confused. There is no info on which way to take and we took a left at one of the forks in the river and I crashed bad, really hurt my knee, almost died when I got trapped under my kayak when my life jacket got caught on the lip of it. There is no staff, no emergency area or way to call for help out there. People just went on by as I'm pathetically grasping for dear life as my kayak hoping not to lose it like I did my ore & shoe. They should have put a sign saying that 1 way was a tougher course with all the trees down in it or shallow areas you hit a lot of rocks on. There were so many small children out in the same issue I was in and it was really scary. I know it's a really old,run down place but investing in some wood & paint to make signs could save some of your valued customers life or trouble & injury. I hope one day they get the trash cleaned up and the amount of alcohol they allow out there I see so many people drunk and stupid out where that's so dangerous. People parking their canoes along the side of the water to smoke their illegal substances. No safety whatsoever. I get why we sign a waiver but, shouldnt you all still provide some type of safety measures? I hope to bring my family back another year and hope to see some type of improvements on safety & having clear signage to help their customers they make plenty of money off of the customers so it should be put back in the river for cleaning it up & making it safe. I wasnt the only one confused by where to go and how to get on the right track. Others were turning around lost. I think they assume everyone has been there a thousand times but, not always the case provide maps for people who havent been. We didnt even see anyone from the 50+ people do a safety video or get ANY safety tips/info. Delaware, OH we have Alum Creek and they are very safe and thorough! They give good info and make sure your taken care of and learn while your there. It seems like Mohican doesnt care about the waterway,...

However we did go for a bit of a hike through the woods from our site to see the primitive sites. There were many in the woods where we saw a sign that recommended a 4x4 to reach, as this area was pretty steep. However, there were also sites out in the open. Our site was in what looked like the newest addition to this campground. I called it the back 40. In this "back 40", there were 2 shower house buidlings (multiple showers and restrooms in each building) with restrooms in them as well. Again, I only saw these 2 buildings during our 2 night stay so I can only really comment on these. These 2 buildings were the nicest I've ever seen at a campground. Seemed very new. Nice tile on the floor and on the walls, about 5 feet up from the floor. Then a nice stained wood from there up and on the ceiling. We never used any of the other amenities offered here. But we did check out the indoor pool and hot tub building. Looked well taken care of and clean and the water was warm. The only thing I wouldn't recommend would be swimming in the pond. There's no fountain in this large pond so the algae is very thick as the water is stagnate. On our last day, we went across the street and drove on both go-cart tracks and checked out 1 of the 3 putt-putt courses. After getting some lunch we came back and did the 7 mile / 2 hour canoe trip. We all had a lot of fun. You can choose different modes of transportation than a canoe, such as a raft for about 4 people or single rafts or kayak. One last thing to be noted, the store up front carries many of the things you may have forgotten or will need. And if that doesn't suffice, there are plenty of small stores nearby to accommodate most of your needs. The dollar store saw some of our business which is less than a half mile from the campground. I give our stay 5 stars but will give the whole campground a 4 for now until I've seen and experienced all the rest. Hoping to stay for a whole week the next time we come here.
P.S. - Don't let the incorrect location marker of Mohican Reservation at this location deter you. I saw that they had many bad reviews. That campground is actually located on the other side of the river near the red colored...
