We stayed the night here in July 2021 and slept very well. As the rooms are over 70 years old and concrete and not rectangular, do not expect a typical hotel stay. It is a unique stay that gives you something to talk about with your friends and family and qualifies as a bucket list item for a good many people and it succeeds quite nicely. I generally wear earplugs to sleep, so I slept very well and never heard the trains running right behind the property, nor the air conditioner. The A/C is a wall unit that seems a touch louder than most, but not in a it-is-not-working way, nor a its-too-old way, but more in a it-is-a-large-BTU-wall-unit-with-the-bulk-of-the-unit-inside-the-room-for-some-reason-and-concrete-walls--what-else-can-you-really-do type of loud as the concrete mass takes a lot of energy to cool off and is very different than your typical home or hotel in its sound profile type way... it took many hours for it to cool down the room as the thick concrete walls took a long time to get down to 70 degrees. I would suggest starting the A/C as early as you can. It ran very smoothly and the consistent noise level was very much appreciated. The room is so quiet that every noise inside the room seems amplified. Even a sneeze becomes lower pitched and echoes a bit. I saw no bugs of any kind and yes there is a small 1/2 inch crack under the door which can probably be closed with a simple piece of weather stripping. There is one small window in the wall and one in the door. I never used the TV. There are three very old two prong two plug outlets and I did see sparks as I plugged stuff in, so those should be replaced and you might want to be careful with them. I dared not unplug the lamp as I have been shocked before by that 50's style non-molded plug. There are no outlets in the bathroom. The entire room and the bathroom were both very clean. Not a lot of counter space in the bathroom for toothbrushes/toothpaste/shaver/makeup etc... The shower is tiled and clean. I went in expecting a tight fit with my 200lb 6' frame, based on reviews and the slanted walls, But I found it roomy, tho the shower head is 5' above the floor, so I had to bend forward to use it. No real complaints there. Plenty of hot water there. Our bathroom is not well vented, so there is no fan making a loud racket, but it also takes a while for the smells of #2 to dissipate. We just kept the door shut and all was well again when we next opened the door later. You can easily spend an hour just taking photos of all the stuff to see on the property (the Teepees, the old cars, the petrified wood everywhere, the office). Hopefully, I will remember to return the key. This is only my 2nd hotel room with a metal key in the past 30 years and I had to mail the previous one back to them (a national park). I would not want to spend hours work at at this tiny table with wicker chair, but I would not expect this from this type of place. The WiFi was quite acceptable from inside these concrete walls (about 10mbps) With no ice machine to be found and an office that seems to be always locked and empty, this is the first day on our route 66 journey from Chicago to Santa Monica that we are not starting out with fresh ice in our thermoses. it may not be the best room I have ever stayed at, but I do not remember those rooms at all and this one was considerably cheaper. This room, I will remember, in a positive way, for a very long time and would probably stay at again if I ever drive thru...
Read moreIt's quite a place if you looking for that old time experience but if you like bells and whistles it's lacking a bit the window coverings are something to be desired, we'll really they sucked this place could be a 5 star with a little attention, the window coverings do not even protect you from any prying eyes or to keep any cold out of the room I'm fact. The loud and annoying heater is so loud you can't even hear each other talk let alone keep it warm of any kind , and with these window coverings and room heater I would give this place maybe a ,3 stars and only because of the nostalgia, funny thing is I bet big money that in the day. it was warmer inside then then it was last night in there , put some black out window coverings on this place.better for privacy and would help with the cold. Being let in ,, And my 7 year old grand child could sew a better set of window coverings i Yes the window covering have my head spinning I just spent 125.00 on feeling cold and unprotected how would you feel , anyways the old cars o have the same auto cacoons on the ranch Although cool I don't like it I think it makes it looks like hell put it up in front with like a used car sign or a fake building like something you would.walk on the buy the cars on the day This way it invites to many strangers on the lot More chances your guests cars to get broke into Keep ppl off the lot by getting the cool cars in one place to much money wrapped up here all spread around in front of these wigwams Just my option I've been running hotels for 20 years now I've seen things come and go I've had guess complain because they got a free room in las Vegas because the complain and then started complaining everyplace they went , I've been accused of putting poisson in a guests rooms I've had police come to my hotel for a fugitive And no the hotel was not a slum hotel it was and is a BEST WESTERN NOT top but not bottom And the only thing that makes a 5 star hotel/ motel is drum roll please it's having a restaurant on the property it's not the amenities or how expensive it is , it's just a restaurant on or with in throwing distance and will serve the...
Read moreI had interest in this place for quite some time and I finally got to experience it and it lived up to my expectations. Be sure to reserve well in advance because the best options book out in advance, and now you can do it easily online (up until 2024 you had to call). The biggest draw by far is that it has the quirky theme of being Wigwams and not a regular boring motel. It's certainly a fun and unique experience to liven up your journey on Route 66, and expect it to come with the bare-bones basics of being in a motel - you get a bed, a shower, some tv if you want it (we didn't even use it), and that's about it. Don't expect breakfast, wakeup calls, a pool, a gym, and so on. As long as you go into it knowing that, you'll have a good time. The beds we had were comfortable enough (not soft but not rock-hard either), the shower's water pressure was decent (albeit a bit of a small and an unusual setup), its air conditioning worked wonderfully, and each wigwam has a little bench / chairs outside for the guests. The only small gripe I had was that the floors were a little dirty, but not enough for me to complain. The staff in the lobby were nice enough but certainly weren't ones to chat or elaborate - very quick and to the point. Some people in the reviews complained about the sound of trains and traffic nearby, but we had the AC running and use a white noise app to sleep at night so we didn't notice any disturbing sounds. In the end, this was nice for our one night and the cost of our room was pretty good, but I find myself on the fence about if I'd come back or not if in the area again. It's definitely good to experience at least once, though in the future I might opt for a chain that serves breakfast unless the price for our stay is by far the cheapest and most...
