We stayed a few days after New Years. A small family of three with our son in elementary. The post-Christmas atmosphere and beautifully maintained grounds made for a magical experience. Every staff member we encountered was pleasant and helpful, adding to the overall charm. The beds were comfortable, and our room offered a nice view. However, the water pressure left much to be desired.
Some of the post-season amenities were inconsistent. The Fun Mountain bumper cars were closed indefinitely, and the climbing wall was underwhelming. If you plan to dine on the property for dinner, be sure to make a reservation ahead of time. The Truman Coffee Shop wasn’t serving custard items during our visit, but the breakfast offerings were well-portioned and satisfying.
Yes, everything was expensive, but if you go in expecting a hefty price tag, it softens the blow. Overall, I’m not sure we’d return during the off season. One can experience much of the “experience” (paid or unpaid) without footing the bill to stay...
Read moreMy best girl wanted to see the Christmas lights at Top of the Rock in Ridgedale, Missouri, just a stone's throw from Branson, the big tourist town. (Silver Dollar City) She also wanted to stay the night, so I called a couple of days ahead to understand how you rented one of the Cabins at Big Cedar Lodge. Having Chris explain the different packages was a great help to me. I booked a room in the Fall Lodge, which was more than my best girl and I could have imagined. One of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept on in any rental accommodation was at this place, along with an electric fireplace, a balcony, and a hot tub. Located on a hill, Fall Lodge offers stunning views of Table Rock Lake and the surrounding area. One thing about Johnny Morris properties is the service; from when you check in to when you check out, the service at any of the on-site amenities...
Read moreWell-appointed room with a comfortable bed and a lovely view of the grounds and lake. Unlike Valley View Lodge, Falls has a sitting area decorated with strained glass and taxidermy. Taxidermied mammals and birds have been placed in the hallways and guest rooms, too. Falls Lodge has an elevator to reach the upper two floors; Valley View doesn't, so keep in mind if traveling with someone with mobility issues as I was. Both lodges are located within easy walking distance of Devil's Pool and Buzzard Bar if you are in decent shape. The only reasons for four stars instead of five is a slightly confusing room numbering system, dark doorways with hard-to-read room numbers, and water running over the road in one area so access to the entrance was available only by vehicle unless you are ok with feet...
