Worst experience ever! No Hotel policy for online reservation glitches. My boyfriend and I wanted to come to Houghton for New Year's Eve, and I tried reserving a room here using their online reservation system through the hotel's website. It was slow and kept reversing the dates on my reservation. I finally thought it was correct, and made the reservation. I called the next day, New Year's Eve, to ask a question about their check-in procedure. The girl who answered was incredibly rude, and rudely informed me that I made my reservation for the night before (Dec. 30), and not NYE as I intended. She then told me that I was charged for the room already as a "no-show," and that they couldn't refund my money. I called later and spoke with Joe, who was no help at all. He offered nothing. I called corporate who was shocked he didn't even offer a room. Corporate called and spoke with Joe, who offered a discounted room, but it was one I couldn't afford since they already billed me for the "no-show." Not only did I not have a place to go for the evening, I also had no extra money to pay for another hotel room.
Subsequent interactions with this hotel after writing reviews have been frustrating and unhelpful. I would love for the owner or vice-president to contact me regarding this as I want my money back for a room I NEVER got to even stay in. We stayed in our car for part of the night until a friend 45 miles away offered us a place to stay. Unacceptable that this hotel doesn't have a policy for online reservation glitches. Read moreFirst, I would like to say the gentleman who checked me in was very kind and actually got me into a room earlier with an upgrade, which was great. I told him I was there early. They had a room ready. I would take whatever it didn’t really matter to issues that come up. One of them was that when I checked in I was not offered the welcome gift for elite members. This particular hotel has a really good one and I like it. I asked him about it and he’s like hey I’m sorry I just assumed you wanted the points because that’s what most people want and then I explained to him that I prefer the gift. I would think it is customary to ask the customer what they would prefer again he was very kind no issues with him just a little thought to maybe make sure you’re asking what we want and not assuming the biggest issue I had was with the plowing of the parking lot. I got there and they told me where my room was. I went to go park there and it was just full of snow. It looks like the plow had come through and just generic sweep, but missed all the parking spots so when I was getting ready to leave to go to my meeting, I explained that you know it would be nice to have the parking spots cleared by the time we got back and he said he would tell the maintenance folks. I got back four hours later and it was still not plowed properly at all. The next morning when I went back out to my car, they are around. Read moreUpon checking in the front desk attendant seemed agitated and overwhelmed. There was a college basketball team that was checking in before us. When we finally were able to check in the front desk attendant spoke very softly and seemed even more agitated. After everything that he said I would have to ask him to repeat himself. During the night we woke up to a bed bug on top of the sheets. We immediately packed up bags and went to the front desk to ask for a new room. The same front desk attendant was there and gave us attitude for packing our stuff and leaving the room because it is their hotel policy to keep everything in the room. He never apologized or anything. He said he would have to call a supervisor to see what to do but because it 11pm he wasn’t sure what we would have to do or if he’d even be able to get ahold of anyone. Luckily there was another person working and he said that they would make sure they got ahold of a supervisor. The hotel itself was fine, minus the bed bug.
