I will try to be as concise as possible, I just finished writing a very thorough review for the dealership that was able to help me, unlike this one.
I went into Keweenaw GMC looking for an oil change, tire rotation, and some filter replacements, as well as a check engine light (CEL). I have no complaints over the services provided, except the CEL. The problem had been an issue I was experiencing for the past 3 years of leasing my brand new GMC truck, an issue I knew was widely experienced by a lot of the 3.0L Duramax Owners. I made it very clear to the service team what I was experiencing with regards to the CEL, and how I had been seen by legitimately 4-6 other big name, mainstream dealerships who refused to further work on my truck due to either time restraints or other conditions related to me being in the Navy, and the need for me to continue moving around(not the dealers fault). I explained all that the other dealers had found up until that point, hoping this would give them much needed information to properly diagnose my truck, as I was there looking for a diagnoses of what was really wrong with my vehicle.
After being called back due to my truck being ready, the service team handed me a printed packet with the description of the what their code reader said was wrong with my truck(something you can do at almost any auto parts store, for free... and something I had done countless time prior). What the packet told me was what I already knew, I was looking for them to diagnose my truck. I did not think they would be okay charging me $160 DIAGNOSTIC FEE to connect a code reader and tell me what I already knew, ontop of that, they made it clear to me, to find out what is actually wrong with my truck I would need to leave it with them for an undisclosed amount of time with the hourly rate being $150. And on top of that, they would not elaborate on whether or not the issue would be covered by warranty, or the fact that my vehicle was a lease.
Now I understand the service team was just as unaware of the problem as I was, and we both truthfully wanted to find answers. But I have never experienced a service department that was as elusive, and in my opinion manipulative in order to make a quick buck.
I am not saying this is the experience everyone will have, and I am sure if I were to go again I would have a better experience. But for the time being and here on out, I am going to be taking my truck to the dealership that was actually able to fix it, with no questions asked, completely covered under warranty, loaner vehicles, complete transparency, and top tier customer service,...
Read moreLong read but rightfully so. I have to relate a story that happened to me over the past weekend. My wife was born and raised in the Calumet area and we have family in both Calumet and Houghton that we went to visit on Friday the 11th, we came from 300 miles away in the Eau Claire area. On Saturday our Tahoe would not start just as we were heading to Tonis restaurant in Laurium. It was 1130 and it appeared my 5 year old battery was dead. Since I like getting OEM parts I called Keewenaw Chevrolet in Houghton knowing the Parts Dept closed at noon. The gentleman who answered was awesome and said I can pay for a battery over the phone and then pick it up as the showroom was open until 5. My brother in law was able to pick the battery up and bring it to me in Calumet. Unfortunately the battery didnt completely solve the problem and the vehicle did not start. I tried a few things all afternoon to no avail and woke up on Sunday morning knowing I was in a bind. I called Patriot towing and within an hour I had a flatbed towtruck in the driveway and Nick loaded the broken down Tahoe up and brought it to Keewenaw Chevy for a great price. I made a point to be at the service department before it opened on Monday morning and met Jared Ruotsala, the Service Manager. He happened to just be walking in with my key fob and I explained my situation to him. I was fully expecting him to say he could get to me later in the week but he said he would have someone look at it soon and give me a call. I decided to wait and went in to talk with a dealer named Sam about Chevys and as I was waiting my phone rang. It was Jared and he said the starter as well as a control wire was bad and if I wanted them to proceed to fix it for the price given. I said absolutely and asked when it may be done. Jared said in about 1.5 hours. I was floored. I fully expected to wait a few days, this was not even a few hours. I had my vehicle by 1100 and we were able to drive back home as planned on Monday afternoon. I want to say how well I was treated from start to finish with this ordeal. That is why I love the Upper Peninsula. Genuine, down to earth people who go out of their way to help. I know this was a long read but bottom line is if you are ever in the Houghton/Calumet area and need anything done to your vehicle then Keweenaw Chevy and Patriot towing are 10 stars on a 5...
Read moreWas very unhappy with the service i recieved from the service department on my truck. The technician would not listen to what I was telling him on what was wrong with my truck. He was very dismisive on what I had to say and ask about it. I asked them to further diagnosis my truck as i had a speed sensor saying that it was not working, and i had just changed out the wheelbearing which has the sensor in it. It originally had the abs light and traction control light come on and when hooked up to a scanner, it read that the speed sensor was not working. So I changed out the bearing which has the built in sensor. Since i did not have them change it in the first place, they wanted me to first have them put another new bearing in and then wanted me to also pay for the sensor seperate. They tried to have me replace this part and other parts that weren't even broken like my hood latch, in which he wouldn't explain to me when I asked what was wrong with it. Told me I would have to fix these parts first which would have cost me 2500$ in the end before they would look at it further. Was charged the 180 something service fee for pretty much telling me nothing. I then brought my truck somewhere else and had the repair that needed to be done for 300$, from a shop that would actually listen and not upcharge me. It ended up being a wire like i thought it was, but i just didnt know where. Very unsatisfied with the service from keweenaw chevrolet. If I could give 0 stars I would. I'm glad I personally have some mechanical experience and feel bad for those women who don't and trust what some technicians say. When in doubt, get a second opinion, and someone that will actually listen and...
