Stayed here for a few days with my wife so we could check out the Hunting Beach/Newport Beach/Long Beach area. Very easy to find right on the PCHW. The family running the place was very polite and easy to work with. Our room was very clean upon arrival and the beds/pillows were more comfortable than some of the nicer hotels we have stayed in. The best thing about this place is that HB pier is 10 mins away in one direction and shopping for food/goods is 10 mins in the other direction. There are loads of bars and breweries in the area (Golden Road Brewing is 2 mins down the road for good food and drinks). We got a rate of $113/night before taxes and fees so at this price point, we would recommend this Inn and stay again for sure. ||Now for the negatives:|As I think everyone has mentioned, the walls are quite thin and the door gap on the bottom is quite large, so you can hear any hallway activity clear as day from other renters. One of the nights, some of the other occupants were arguing around 1-2am which kept us up quite late, which is not the Inn's fault, but still frustrating. The highway noise might be an issue for light sleepers, but nothing some ear plugs can't fix. Also, we were on the 3rd floor which is the top floor, yet the last night of our stay it sounded like someone was walking around above us?? We were a bit confused on that one. ||Our biggest issue was the lack of hot water and the rainfall shower head. I think there are some water heating issues that need to be addressed. We were in room 324 which shares a wall with the utility/water heater closet and we could hear it firing up quite often and it was whistling quite loud. Might be time for a thorough servicing or even maybe a replacement.||Overall, at the rate we paid, I would easily give this place 3 stars for location, cleanliness, and comfort. If the water wasn't an issue I would have given this...

Read moreNo smoking on this property which is key for me! Folks are going to smoke whatever they're going to smoke and to each their own. I appreciate not having to smell whatever is being smoked and not ending up smelling like whatever is being smoked.
I've seen other reviews regarding noise and thin walls. It's true, I could hear some traffic when folks revved their engines or were being obnoxious. Whatever. For the price, I am quite pleased. There isn't an elevator and that is a little inconvenient. My daughter, her father, and myself, stayed on New Year's Eve and we expected much more noise than we encountered. Our University of Utah Utes played in the Rose Bowl and we weren't about to miss the game. Within a couple miles or less is a supermarket, multiple restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, and of course, the beach. Our room was in the process of being renovated and has soap/shampoo/conditioner dispensers, a rain-style shower head in the ceiling, and inside shutters that are not only cute but provide insulation. Everything, television, coffee maker, heating and air conditioning, hot and cold water, worked well and the place is clean. I travel with my own cleaning products because I've needed them in the past at other places but they aren't necessary here. My favorite part about Surf City Inn is Mahindra at the front desk, who is friendly, helpful, and genuinely kind. I will...
