Well, once again this hotel disappoints in every way.||I’ve been staying here since the 80‘s. Back then into the 90‘s it was the best place to stay in Huntsville.||I’ve stayed away after my last experience here 3 years ago and had hoped that after the bissige before that were utter failures from 2020-2023 Marriott would have addressed the issues.||Alas, they have not.||Upon check in, the hotel staff LIED TO MY FACE making excuses why they gave away my room. When they told me they were putting me in the cabana rooms (sounds nice, but trust me this part of the hotel hasn’t been that since the 90‘s, despite the cheap renovation this hotel underwent a few years ago ago) I told them I specifically booked the tower rocket view with balcony room they proceeded to tell me that I had not and that there was nothing on the reservation for that. Funny enough, I pulled up my Marriott Bonvoy app and there the details of exactly that were there. I turned my phone to the RUDE and LYING desk clerk (the customer service st the hotel is abysmal still) and she said „oh I see that now.“ WOW. Then I politely told her I’ve been staying at this hotel since the 80‘s and am familiar with the property and the cabana rooms are unacceptable due to the noisy AC units and the room I paid for was more expensive in the tower with a balcony looking at the Space and Rocket Center for my kids so this was a huge downgrade plus we’d get terrible sleep due to the AC units in the rooms in that building. She then tried to sell me on the renovation. „Have you been here since our renovation?“ i politely responded „yes,||Many times“ while in in my head thinking the cheap, tacky renovation done was little more than new carpet, paint and cheap beds and furniture. The hallways still smell of 1980 humid Huntsville - so much so they have air purifiers in them to try and mask it. They’ve recently painted the brown exterior brick the hotel is made of with black and white paint - it now looks like a convicts’s uniform black and white striped. The money spent on „renovating“ this hotel hasn’t been put in the right places. The window sills in the common areas in the cabana building are bubbling with the humidity of the past 40 years and are about the same as when I came as a kid through here for Space Camp. Dust and all. ||Marriott - this hotel needs a total reno or knockdown/rebuild to embrace being in Rocket City with the Space and Rocket Center next door. Embrace the theme - make the hotel Space centric. Between the thousands of families a year who come through here for Space Camp, Redstone Arsenal, FBI, NASA and commercial business you could have a year round stream of customers if you’d make this place an attraction hotel, rather than the sad painted over interior snd exterior and linoleum floored rooms you have done. Graduate Hotels has their finger on the pulse of what to do when you have a unique location. You are losing business at this hotel because of the level of customer service and what you get for the money. Many people I know avoid this hotel, even though it’s conveniently located to the business they are doing here in Huntsville. I won’t be booking it again, until you change this mess. The nostalgia held me to keep trying to give it a chance. I’m done. || I I’d be willing to bet that the Space and Rocket Center or NASA archives would be willing to put historic items „on loan“ in your hotel if it were worthy enough. ||Back to my experience today, too bad, they gave my room away. No other rooms to accommodate my family. Maybe they can get me a room tomorrow (again, that I paid a premium for. At this point, I’ve been traveling all day to get here and my family is exhausted. Seriously debating sleeping in the car in the parking lot (which they charge you $ for which is absurd due to the size of the lot and the age of the property - this land is far past paid off). Stuck my in the horrible cabanas (where the AC units are in the outside wall and scream through the night) until they can „fix“ my booking to get me the right room. So a night of almost no sleep after traveling for almost 12 hours to get here sounds great. ||Left the lobby resigned to go to the horrible cabana room and called Marriott Bonvoy. Explained the situation. Asked them to fix the situation as the desk clerk was useless, rude and lied to my face. Bonvoy politely put me on hold and tried to call the hotel. NO ONE ANSWERED THE PHONE FOR BONVOY IN OVER 5 MINUTES. They came back and apologized profusely. I told them that the hotel was not busy (except the lobby „bar“ a term I use loosely here) and that this experience they had just trying to get in contact with the hotel exemplifies EXACTLY the issues going on with customer service at this hotel. ||At this point, I want a refund. I want my CORRECT room (or two king rooms of the same class I booked - with Rocket center views and balconies) comp‘d for the rest of my stay. Marriott you have failed for the last time for me...
Read moreOur family is Marriott Titanium Elite. We’ve spent over 1100 nights in Marriott hotels over the past 8 years throughout the US, as we travel for business (NASA /government), and pleasure. This was our first time to stay here as a family. Upon arrival, we were assigned to the wrong room. They promptly fixed this issue. We didn't think a thing about it, but after staying a week, it’s evident that issue wasn't just an occasional mistake, but was indicative of careless staff. We had to ask for our cards to be keyed to access the club lounge. Again, not a big deal, but a little piece of the overall picture. Exterior doors from the courtyard to the side lobby were never locked. With the exception of Annalise, Loren, and the entire bar staff (we spent a lot of time in the bar lobby because we were unwelcome in the club lounge- we will get to that in the next point), the rest of the staff was unwelcoming and lacked professionalism. Lastly, but the biggest deal to us is the fact that in all of our Marriott stays, we have never before felt unwelcome because we have children. Our children have always been welcomed, included, and treated with utmost respect everywhere we have been, even the most “formal” executive lounges throughout the US. We have a 14 year old, a 13 year old, and a one year old, that have literally grown up in Marriott hotels. They mind their manners, are respectful- more respectful than many adults, and are always accompanied by a parent. Typically, while one parent leaves the property for work, the other stays at the hotel and accompanies the kids in their online school lessons. The Marriott MClubs/executive lounges have always been a safe, quiet haven for them to sit and study. The first morning we were told that our kids were not allowed to have breakfast with us in the club lounge because they were under age. We are very familiar with Marriott policies, but have never encountered this situation. There was no mention of this on the website, at check in, and no option to pay for them, although they have always been admitted for free because of our loyalty status. The gentleman told us that children are not allowed to have breakfast in the lounge because they serve alcohol in the evening due to a state law. Interestingly, he proceeded to tell us to go to the hotel restaurant or, ironically, sit in the lobby of the hotel bar (which houses hundreds of bottles of liquor on display). We consulted the state law for ourselves and realized that we had been lied to. We explained the situation to the front desk staff, who relayed our concern to the GM via a phone call. The front desk then called us in our room and told that they would make an exception for us. There were no further explanations, no apologies, no follow ups, no interaction with management. We were truly trying to understand this, not trying to cause trouble. They did indeed allow our kids to accompany us for the remainder of the trip, but they saw to it that we felt unwelcome, out of place, and uncomfortable. We overheard staff whispering about us behind our backs, watching every move we made, they avoided eye contact, etc. Again, we have never before felt so unwelcome anywhere, as if we were a blight on their precious lounge, which was extremely sub par to begin with). I will also note that the lounge was practically empty every time we were there, so I know overcrowding wasn’t an issue. Huntsville is a hub for many government, space, and tech entities. Our family is a part of that industry. While most of those business travelers travel alone, we travel as a family. A great hotel knows how to balance being welcoming and hospitable to both business travelers and families alike. Unfortunately, this hotel has failed miserably at that. We do not expect to be treated with privilege, but with respect, especially when we have shown our loyalty to a brand. This property is a pathetic representation of the...
Read moreWe made reservations for our Scout Winter trip to Huntsville Space and Rocket Center 1/17/25-1/19/25. After our trip was booked I read some guest reviews. I must say they were not good. They were from Summer of 2024. Well they were poor opposite of my stay.
Checking in was smooth and seamless. C. Brown was on the desk in the evening for our 6p check -in. she made sure all topics were covered and helped with fun facts and tidbits that would make our stay more pleasant. she also presented us with our gift bags with the delicious cookie and some water in it and our passes for breakfast.
Some of our Scouts were having trouble logging into the Wi-Fi for their handheld devices she made it a point to personally make sure they all got online. This of course gave us parents more time to unwind and watch the football playoffs that were on television in the bar. There was a very nice lady who was working the bar Fri & Sat she was doing such a fantastic job making sure that all of the guests and her lounge area were taking care of with prompt courteous friendly service.
The whole hotel was very clean and organized. upon entering my room I found that to be the same. It looked like any five star hotel room very clean updated amenities I really liked the shower area and the beds were quite comfortable. they were a little modern seeings how they didn't really have box springs but the mattresses were quite comfortable. The room had a mini fridge but no microwave It did have a coffee maker. If you have Netflix or any other streaming service it was very easy to stream your service with the hotel rooms television there was no additional cost.
It was very cold during our stay but the room stayed nice and warm The pool area looked like it would be quite fun during the warmer months We had a cabana room on the second floor overlooking the area. It's quite breathtaking though as you come onto the property to see the rockets in the distance It made for a nice backdrop.
Breakfast was pretty good. They had scrambled eggs, cheeses ,fruits, oatmeal ,muffins, bacon ,sausage, grits, and condiments for your oatmeal as well as yogurt milk orange juice apple juice coffee.
The servers in the breakfast area or very friendly and did a great job. We had close to 100 people in our total group and breakfast was kind of confusing because two of us would come in and then another four would come in and we join tables etc The staff handled it very well considering.
The hotel had a very nice fitness center and the restaurant appeared to be good although we dined at Dave & Buster's. Had some people that did eat at the restaurant and they said the food was delicious.
If you're planning to go to the space and rocket center there's not a better hotel around. The hotel is only a few minutes away from downtown and other areas for entertainment real easy access right off the highway.
I just wanted to make sure that I gave an accurate review of the hotel and it's wonderful staff. Any hotel can have an off day but this one did not. My compliments to the staff.
I should have taken pictures when I first got into the room but I took some as we were leaving. Also maid service did come in and made sure we had fresh towels...
