Calhoun Community College — Local services in Huntsville

If I could give zero stars, I would. Calhoun Community College has been an incredibly frustrating and disappointing experience. The advising department is a complete disaster — advisors consistently give incorrect guidance that can leave you stuck at a two-year college for four years or more. I was led in circles semester after semester, taking classes that didn’t even count toward my degree.

They burn through your financial aid on prerequisites and general courses that don’t apply to your actual graduation plan, and they don’t make that clear up front. On top of that, they sneak in random fees and double charge you if you take a mix of online and in-person classes. It’s like they’re finding every way possible to drain your money.

The office staff is rude, unhelpful, and shows no interest in supporting students. Every time I asked for help, I was met with attitude or passed off to someone else. The entire system feels broken and unorganized.

I'm down to just a few classes in my major, So I feel like I have a good feel for the school. Overall the staff is average, nothing exceptional. There are standouts among that staff that were exceptional, and just as many that only care about running you through the course. I have had several teachers that I will always remember and enjoyed their course. Communication with the college can be a problem at times. A big reason I'm rating a three is because of a new policy being implemented regarding tests. Almost all tests are online now. They are online, they are strictly timed, and therefore very stressful. I am almost always not given the duration of the class to take the test, often times I have less than an hour to complete a test with up to 60 questions. It was a good experience for me I had gotten lost and a very nice security guard I just happened to come across offered to drive his campus cart while I follow in my truck to take me all the way to where I needed to be which was all the way on the other side of the back side of the property down in the basement and my phone had just died on me right after I had emailed the teacher that I was lost he really saw that I was new and I needed help and he really showed up and showed out he made me feel very welcome and when I meet my teacher she made me feel just as welcome and so did everyone else in the class but thanks to the guard I wasn’t late and I wish I had got his name but I think all of the stuff and team members are just as amazing as him and my...
