I've long heard whispers that this taqueria has some of the best Mexican food in town. Got to try it out on Wednesday and although I don't think I quite agree with that assessment (at least wrt what I had), I did have a very pleasant time.
There's plenty of space to park, though the parking lot itself has a couple of potholes to watch out for. While the outside is unremarkable, the inside of the restaurant is really quite nicely decorated and appeared spotless to me. There was a decent sized lunch crowd of mostly engineer types -- I imagine the proximity to the Arsenal and the Space and Rocket Center is quite a draw.
I walked up to order at the counter and was somewhat taken aback by the size of the menu. Menu items are posted with corresponding pictures and there's a lot to choose from! The gentleman at the cashier -- Pedro, iirc -- was exceedingly pleasant and patient with my waffling. He offered to answer any questions I had. Eventually, I wound up with one of my usual Mexican go-tos: sopes con pollo, with a small side of queso blanco. I was sorely tempted by the aguas frescas on the wall (and the horchata!), but kept it to a can of Coke Zero.
There's a good bit of seating inside so I helped myself to a booth in the corner and admired the beautiful colors on the walls and in the art. A waitress came out with chips, salsa, and my queso. I've seen some folks say chips and salsa aren't automatically provided here, and I can't say whether I got chips for free only because I ordered queso or because they've changed that policy, but regardless the salsa at least was a bonus, and it was yummy! Perfectly cool, very flavorful, nice consistency. The queso was generic but generic queso is still plenty tasty. The chips were maybe a tiny bit greasy but had a nice crunch and weren't too salty.
As for the sopes, I enjoyed them well enough. They got the fried masa rounds extra crispy on the outside. The quantity of the meat on top was a little small (more veggies and beans on these) and I also didn't think the meat itself was super flavorful, but a dash of hot sauce had me happy enough. The friendly waitress came by once or twice to make sure I was doing okay and also wished me a wonderful day on my way out, which was nice.
I'm admittedly not a huge Mexican food connoisseur, so take my evaluation with a grain of salt. I'd award the food a 3.5, personally, but the clean and colorful interior and the extremely personable and prompt service pushes me to round it up to a 4. They have a couple of hard-to-find dishes like California burritos and carne asada fries, so be sure to give them a...
Read moreImagine a steaming, fragrant plate of pork carnitas, expertly crafted to awaken your senses and tantalize your taste buds. The tender, slow-cooked pork, marinated in a blend of zesty citrus, earthy garlic, and aromatic spices, melts in your mouth with each succulent bite. The exterior of the pork is seared to perfection, creating a crispy, golden-brown crust that provides a satisfying contrast to the moist, flavorful meat within.
As you take your first bite, your palate is flooded with the rich, savory notes of the meat, harmoniously balanced with the tangy, smoky flavors of the marinade. The pork is cooked to fork-tender perfection, easily shredding apart, while the caramelized crust offers a delectable crunch, heightening the complexity of textures in each mouthful.
The pork carnitas are nestled atop a bed of warm, fluffy corn tortillas, which act as a canvas for the array of fresh, vibrant accompaniments that elevate the dish to new heights. A generous spoonful of piquant, freshly chopped pico de gallo invigorates the dish with its bold combination of ripe tomatoes, zesty onions, spicy jalapeños, and tangy lime juice.
Beside the carnitas, a serving of savory, slow-cooked beans, topped with a layer of melted cheese, adds a creamy, indulgent dimension to the plate. The beans are seasoned to perfection, with a hint of smokiness that complements the robust flavors of the pork. Fluffy, golden rice cooked with a delicate blend of herbs and spices completes the ensemble, offering a subtle, aromatic counterpoint to the richness of the carnitas and beans.
Each bite of this pork carnitas plate transports you on a culinary journey, weaving together the rich, hearty flavors of the slow-cooked pork with the refreshing, zesty accents of the pico de gallo, and the savory, comforting notes of the beans and rice. Every element works in tandem to create a truly mouth-watering experience, leaving you craving another bite, and then another, as you savor the irresistible, unmatched flavors of this...
Read moreMy wife and I wanted to try a new authentic Mexican restaurant and after looking at the reviews we decided to try Taqueria las Adelitas which translated to "The Adelitas' Taco Shop" in English. It is located at 6212 Old Madison Pike, Huntsville, AL 35806. Its is in a small strip mall next to a Subway sandwich shop and A1 Appliance just over 1 mile west of Bridge Street Mall.
It is a nice clean restaurant with traditional Spanish music playing in the background. The owner was friendly, greeted us and seated us in a nearby booth. The menu is posted on the wall and you can pick from a large variety of meals.
My wife ordered the Carne Asada, (beef tacos) which came with grilled onions, refried beans, Mexican rice, lettuce, tomato and avocado, pepper and fresh tortillas. I ordered the combination plate which came with chicken, beef, refried beans, Mexican rice, lettuce, and tomato and fresh tortillas. There was complimentary fresh tortilla chips and salsa. We ordered guacamole for the chips as well.
The chips were fresh and crispy and the guacamole was flavorful with just the right amount of cilantro. All the food was freshly prepared and mildly seasoned. Both meals were delicious and large portions. It is one of the best authentic Mexican food restaurants we've experienced in the ten years we have live here in Huntsville. We will definitely be going back to try some of the other meals. I would highly recommend Taqueria Las Adelitas to anyone who love authentic...
