My wife and I booked a couple of nights to come stay with our daughters who are 2 and 6. We liked the hotel overall. It was clean, the rooms were nice, and they had a great breakfast in the morning. The first night we stayed, we didn't have any trouble. Everything went fine. ||||However, the second night was a different story. About 10 pm, I noticed a strange odor filling up the room. At first, I thought something was burning. It smelled like an electrical fire. I walked around the room checking all the outlets just to make sure. Thankfully, it wasn't that. For the next hour or so, I kept smelling it, so I walked around the room trying to figure out what it was and where it was coming from. Finally, I discovered that it was being blown in from one of the vents in our ceiling, right above our bed. I called the front desk to get some assistance, but was informed that someone who lives a couple lots over from the hotel burns things in his yard. I was told that the HVAC unit on the roof sucks in the smell and pumps it into the hotel, including all the rooms. There was no way to shut the vent off either, and all the other rooms would smell the same. He also mentioned that I was not the only person who had called and complained about the burning smell. I walked out into the hallway, and the smell was very thick out there as well. After a bit, I started getting a headache. My wife started getting congested, and my 6 year old was complaining about feeling dizzy. It was at that point that I no longer felt safe subjecting my family to whatever it was being pumped into our room. It smelled like burning chemicals. ||||Since all rooms smelled just as bad, our only option was to check out, and head home at 12 in the morning. We had a 3.5 hour drive home, and we didn't make it home until 4 in the morning. It was super inconvenient, especially with our 2 young daughters. The hotel was nice, the breakfast was great, but unfortunately because of the possibility of the burning smell happening again, we won't be back, and I can no longer recommend this particular location to family or friends. Hopefully the hotel can work something out between the man that burns his junk and the city. This definitely isn't safe, and becomes a huge inconvenience for guests. ||||If you're considering staying here, just know that whether or not you get the terrible is a hit or miss. It all just depends on whether or not the guy who lives a couple lots over decides to burn his trash during your stay. This is a problem that really needs...
Read moreI have never been treated so rudely by the front counter as I was at Wingate by Wyndham, Hurricane , WV the evening of June,21, 2022. I was making a solo return trip from Maryland to Ohio. I made a reservation at this hotel. Upon arrival the lady at the front desk said she needed my credit card. I laid my billfold on the counter and stated I was paying with cash. She said I still need your card.Once again stated I was paying with cash and had with drawn two $50.00 bills and laid them on the counter. Again she insisted on getting my credit card., Once again I stated I was paying with cash. This confrontational dialogue continued for several minutes. Then she stated she needed my card incase I use any of the amenities. I told her I just want to sleep and I will not be using any amenities. Then she said she need my card in case I damaged the room. Once again a said no. Then she stated I could not leave until the room has been inspected for damages THere I was standing by myself; a retired senior citizen traveling alone. I asked if she wanted my vehicle make model and Ohio registration number. She said ,"NO" Finally she relented and had me initial a paper that I would not damage the room. It would have gotten much worse if she or her staffed tried to physically stop me the next morning. Unbeknown to her I am a retired Air Force MSGT and a retired Deputy Sheriff from Ohio. Had they tried to physically stop me they would have been in violation of Federal Law. That law says if you impede, prevent or stop a person from the their freedom of movement they are guilty of kidnapping. She would have been in her rights to call the local law enforcement to stop me but she and or her staff could not. Upon arrival at my home the next day I had a letter from Wingate by Wyndham wanting my response to the my stay and my reception at the front desk. The first word in my response letter was, :HORRIBLE" I detailed my complain as I have described above and added this lady needs to be retrained or fired!! I naively thought I would get a response back. As if the writting 7- 12 - have...
Read moreI was looking for a safe haven in West Virginia. Things had not turned out as planned. Struggling with finding anything in the dark and unfamiliar area. I was immensely frustrated and frazzled. The place I was supposed to stay: not good in any way. On google from the parking lot of a place I should not even had considered ; I saw a light and initially a good price. Wingate by Wyndham!!! Upon walking in the door I was embraced immediately by the manager who could surely see that my condition was dire. Monica is the ultimate professional. Eased my mind immediately and made me feel completely safe and cared for. She absolutely made me feel like family. Helped me get a beautiful room. Helped me calm down and made sure that I knew that everything in this beautiful hotel, under her authority and guidance was going to be taken care of professionally, and with kindness and a heart for the weary traveler. She is 100 percent the best!! Period!!!! I got settled and came back down to the lobby. Feeling at home. Monica introduced me to Sara who commands the lobby bar with grace, kindness, humbleness and caring. One of the best bartenders I have ever met when I needed it most. Professional for sure. An easy smile and a beautiful humble nature made for easy conversation. Sara!! Such a good person and provided a great ending to my night. I’m very appreciative of both these women. Taking care of business in this beautiful spot for sure. I have been lucky enough to travel frequently in my life. Very few times have I needed and found exactly what I needed at such a desperate time. These two women are absolute angels. The hotel ain’t bad either!!!! Hahahaha. This is my new spot. Good things are found here in West Virginia!!!Wingate by Wyndham!!!...
