This hotel was really beautiful and the staff was wonderfully accommodating. But there were a few issues.
First, making the reservation through the convention was extremely difficult. Every time I called, I got somebody who didn’t know what was going on and didn’t know what I was asking. That was extremely frustrating. Once I made the reservation, everything was fine.
Upon arrival I had developed gout in my right foot and it seemed like everything was a huge distance to walk. But the hotel is really beautiful and the walk was really nice. However, to find my room was extremely difficult. We felt like it was a maze of hallways to try to find the elevator then we went up the elevator and the room was simple to find, but just getting to the elevator was difficult.
The room was lovely. I would’ve liked warmer lighting because blue light keeps me awake at night and I would’ve loved a way to stop the Wi-Fi from coming in on me at night so I could’ve slept a little better. The next morning I left a tip for housekeeping, as well as a note asking for two pillows and an extra blanket. They left me two pillowcases. Obviously the next morning, I did not leave a tip. That evening, when my exhibit was finished for the convention a hotel staff member help me get all of my things up to my room and unloaded, and I tipped him and asked him for extra pillows. He made sure that housekeeping delivered them to my room. He was definitely worth what I tipped him. I ended up taking the king size comforter, and sheet and doubling it over to give my body enough weight to actually sleep for a few hours that night.
On Sunday morning, I had requested a late check out. I was granted the late check out, but housekeeping bothered me two different times when I was trying to relax. I understand that they have a job to do, but that was extremely annoying because it was the only time since I had arrived that I actually got to kick back and just watch some TV And do nothing. Instead, I had to get up on my very painful foot go to the door only to remind housekeeping that I had a late check out and I would be out on time. It made me wish I had put a do not disturb sign on the door. I really did not want to be bothered, but yet because it was my checkout day, they felt like it was OK to impose upon me.
Overall, it was a really nice room and a great stay even if it was a little small to navigate around the room. Since I am visually impaired, it was not a big deal to have a small room, the room was actually set up very well, so you didn’t notice how small it was. My window was facing east and I got to watch the sunrise each morning, which I absolutely loved. The only thing it would’ve made it better was to have a balcony so I could’ve actually Gotten that sunlight on my skin and in my eyes a...
Read moreQuite unorganized and a certain male staff member has a nonchalant attitude when called out.
When a room is booked for three and it's got a sofa bed, a duvet and sheets are expected for the sofa bed. Okay, they're not there. Fine, let's call the reception. No one picks up after two calls. Someone picks up from room service. 10 minutes later, we follow up, we're told they'll be over in a minute. 10 minutes later, I follow up and that's when I experience the guy with the nonchalant attitude. He says there's only one guy doing it etc etc. Obviously the guy running these errands hasn't done anything wrong but if he's the only one running around sorting stuff out and there's a long list of things to be done then maybe something should be done to make up for the poor planning. Have someone else step in, and give guests an appropriate time estimate. Service recovery is a thing and that's when the quality of service is really tested, not 'take it up with the manager in the morning' when told that the duvet and sheets should have come with the room in the first place, and that a truthful time estimate should be given.
AC is also incredibly noisy.
The lady who checked us in was very polite and welcoming. The guy that brought the sheets proactively brought pillows, which is a good thing even though we didn't explicitly ask for them (there was an extra pillow in the room anyway). Shuttle driver was a nice gent.
A note was slipped under the door asking us to see the reception. We dropped by the reception in the morning and they claimed that we had purchased something from their minimart. We had not, and they asked 'are you sure, maybe someone from your room?' In either case, we got it removed cause we didn't purchase anything. The trainee receptionist was very apologetic (she was there with another, older female receptionist). Out of curiosity, I asked the trainee receptionist about what the purchase was for/when the purchase was made. She said she would print out the receipt for me. The other receptionist, also a woman, quickly stopped her and just shook her head slowly as if to say that's a bad idea, don't print it out. That quite annoyed me. You have the nerve to ask '...are you sure...?' but don't want to show the receipt for the purchase that you were claiming we made. I remember asking something about it and said older receptionist said 'we can't tell you that' in a pretty nonchalant attitude after her earlier 'are you sure?'
Don't think I've experienced poorer service from...
Read moreFront desk receptionist was great. Hotel has a really cool vintage feel and the atrium and elevators with glass windows are awesome. The receptionist was kind enough to upgrade our rooms. The rooms are nice and have been recently renovated. However, they are still rough around the edges.
Even post-renovation, the bathroom had an old, worn out drop ceiling. The water pipe for the shower was partially exposed and not secured very well so when you tried to move the shower head the entire thing moved which was a little sketchy. There was a very conspicuous hair in the shower which tells me the housekeeping staff was rushing a little too much. All minor things but they add up.
The most comical part of the stay was a little note on the nightstand from the hotel, saying they were happy to provide us with complimentary "noise-cancelling earbuds," along with a little picture of an airplane. Okay, this hotel is right next to the airport after all. Makes sense. But here's the funny part: the hotel tries to make themselves seem more upscale by calling them noise-cancelling earbuds when in reality they're just regular foam earplugs. This isn't a criticism per se but I couldn't help but chuckle.
However, it's also worth noting that I did not hear a single airplane during my entire stay, and flights were still departing/arriving the whole time. It's possible that airplane noise levels vary depending on which runway is in use. But I discovered overnight that what you really need the earplugs for is not the airplanes, but the room's air conditioner. That thing is old, and LOUD. And I needed it on overnight to keep the room comfortable. But every time it kicked on, it jolted me back awake as I was drifting off to sleep. Overall my sleep quality was quite poor due to this even though I normally like a little background noise. Hence why I gave the room 2 stars.
I wish I could say I'd stay again because it is truly a nice hotel overall. But I'd rather stay at a more basic hotel if it means I get...
