I stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn Indianapolis Northwest for one night at the end of April 2024. However, I have also stayed at this location numerous times in the past (typically 1-3 times each year over the past 3 years). It has consistently been a great and reliable experience (I would rate it 4 stars on most of my prior stays as well). Generally, the rooms are clean and service is great. If you've seen my other Google Reviews of hotels, you may notice that I can be very analytical and critical, so for this hotel to consistently get 4 star ratings from me is notable. Also note that the following week I stayed at a nearby hotel (that was more expensive) that I gave just 2 stars. I would have preferred to stay at the Hilton Garden Inn but unfortunately they were booked.
The Hilton Garden Inn did recently undergo renovations. This was different from the last time I was here (which was last year). The lobby was a lot nicer and in the hallways you could smell the new carpets and see the better lighting.
The individual room also seemed like it was renovated, which was nice. The one exception is that they didn't renovate the bathrooms, which are clearly starting to show their age. The bathrooms are still serviceable but it's a shame they didn't renovate them. When I inquired about the renovations at the front desk they said they didn't renovate most of the bathrooms but did renovate a few of them (i.e. the ones with jacuzzis, though I never stayed at one of their rooms with a jacuzzi so I can't attest to any of that).
The renovation did, however, remove what used to be their business center (which is now a sales office or something like that). It does mean that if you have to print something, you have to e-mail it to a manager at the front desk who will then print it for you. But to be honest, even when they did have a business center, the computer/printer only worked half the time and the other half of the time I had to e-mail it to the front desk to print anyway, so it's ultimately not a big deal.
The one night I stayed, there was noise from a party being held. I was in room 302 (third floor, all the way at the northern end). So there was a very large party (the front desk admitted it was an abnormally large party) on the first floor directly below where my room was. I had checked in around 6 PM and unfortunately the loud music (from a DJ or a stereo) continued until 10 PM, when the party was scheduled to end. While this was unideal, I do think it was atypical, so I'll still rate the hotel as 4 stars. As mentioned, I've stayed here multiple times before without any noise issues, thus I generally would consider the hotel "quiet" (despite this one occurrance).
There is no free breakfast (understandable given the price), though you can buy/order breakfast in the restaurant/bar area on the first floor. Over the past few years, I think I only ate there once and it was pretty good.
I also had no problems accessing the Wi-Fi internet (but that could be because my laptop remembers the settings from prior visits).
As some minor critiques (that don't affect the rating): It is very common for one of the two elevators to be unavailable. I do remember from past visits that a lot of the time, there is only one working elevator. Also, if you are new to the Hilton Garden Inn, it can be a little tricky getting to the entrance. If you are coming north along Intech Blvd, you have to take a U-turn (which you can do before the stoplight at 71st St) to get to the entrance. And if you are leaving the Hilton Garden Inn and want to head north, you first have to go south through the roundabout to head...
Read moreWe stayed here for 4 days in May. I have always wanted to stay here, but could never get a reservation so stayed at other local hotels. This year an opportunity came up and I managed to get a booking during this very busy period. When we arrived we had to step over broken floor tiles in the foyer and humps in the entry foyer carpet due to stretching. However, this aside the greeting by the fantastic staff made us very welcome. Our room was on a high floor looking out the rear side of the hotel, and was very comfortable indeed. We had breakfast downstairs each day and the food and service was terrific. During the stay overnight on the first evening the entire foyer was transformed into race goers paradise and the entire staff were well and truely into the Indy500 spirit. This hotel is handy to a couple of restaurants - which were in walking distance but there are many more within a short drive. In my humble opinion Yes with some minor service work this Hotel could be visibly improved - but for the price we were paying during a very busy period, we were more than happy to overlook these minor issues. There is criticism on some reviews about the $5.00 per night parking charge - we stayed for 4 nights and were not charged at all, and neither were a couple of other travellers we spoke to. They have a very good evening bar service and a nice outdoor area attached to the hotel if you want to socialise outside. Would I stay here again? Most definitely. Credit...
Read moreThe Hilton Garden Inn Indianapolis General Manager appeared unresponsive, or unconcerned, that my booking request was not provided. When booking with any hotel, I always ask to be placed in an upper floor, away from noise and the elevator and not above a designated smoking area. Nearly all hotels attempt to accommodate all, or most, of the request. At this Hilton I was placed in a room directly above the front lobby and above the outside smoking area. I did discuss the placement with the General Manager on duty (Aug 7, 2021 approx. 7PM). He stated the reservation did not include my request and the hotel was fully booked so there was nothing he could do - although he did not share with me information contained within the booking. I understand requests aren't guaranteed. However, apparently, this hotel has a booking systems information exchange problem (they apparently don't receive a request a potential guest is encouraged to submit), in addition to management that is apparently casually unconcerned about passing customers. Further, the hotel could use a good cleaning throughout. Its not "generally dirty". It needs more detailed cleaning in areas such as shower corners, rug entrances, floor baseboards, etc. Those areas that differentiate a clean hotel from a hotel that has a slight "ich" factor. I do not recommend (obviously). However, the hotel has potential - they can fix their problems if they put a bit of attention...
