I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Indianapolis Northwest for two days (Friday & Saturday) in early May 2024.
The room was not great but acceptable but the biggest problem was all the noise from the hallway and the other rooms.
As for the room, the carpet was old and worn with many stains, the shower drain did not drain well, and there were two separate long hairs on the hand towels. There also must be some opening to the outside because I found 2 stink bugs inside the room and some sort of buzzing insect attracted to light also got inside the room. None of these issues are ideal but they are relatively minor and the room was serviceable.
The biggest issue was the noise. I was on the third floor (Room 311), a few doors down from the elevator. The first day I kept hearing a dog barking a few doors down (317, right near the elevator). I called the front desk and they said it was a service dog that is trained to bark when needed to alert the owner. They said the guest had stayed a few nights already and they not not received any other complaints about barking. To their credit, they did ask if I wanted another room but I was unsure if it was worth the hassle at that point. The second day, there was a very yappy dog on the other side (Room 309). The owner clearly knew the dog needed to be more quiet. She was trying to leave her room and was then trying to shush her dog.
The second problem was a mob of ten to eleven year old boys in baseball uniforms running through the hallway and shouting. They were apparently in town for a "Super Select" Bullpen Tournament for youth baseball held in nearby Westfield, Indiana that weekend (for privacy reasons I will omit which specific team it was). Typically they were in groups of 2-4 but there were multiple groups, such that it could be upwards of a dozen unsupervised boys running around. I would occasionally ask the boys to please quiet down and on the very rare occasion I saw a parent and told them about the behavioral issues the parent would say "I'm only responsible for my one kid" and that kid would usually just say "it wasn't me, it was everyone else instead." And yes, baseball kids were staying in the two rooms across from me and one of them was apparently the hangout for half a dozen kids (with no parents around). This was a problem on both nights but at least on the second night, some of the kids were reminding each other to keep the volume down (which only helped a little bit since I could still hear them, including the shushing). Also, on the morning of my checkout there was a bowl of noodles or onions left outside my door, which I suspect was left by one of the baseball boys annoyed that I had spoiled their fun.
Yes, dogs and rambunctious baseball boys are not something completely within the control of the hotel, but the hotel's policies on dogs (I'm okay with the service dog but the other yappy dog not so much) and unsupervised kids, is something the hotel DOES have control over.
FYI: I had a colleague on the same floor in a nearby room. The first night, they didn't notice anything unusual. But after I mentioned the noise issues and they were aware of it, they definitely heard the various noises the second night.
As for some bright sides of the hotel, the free breakfast (served starting at 6:30 AM) was decent. And the hotel had a business center (2 computers and a printer) which was convenient and useful. I also had no issues accessing and using the wi-fi internet.
But ultimately, I think I would strongly prefer (and recommend) a nearby hotel that is cheaper instead. (The week before I was at a different nearby hotel which was much better IMHO. Feel free to look for my other...

Avoid IHG and stay at Hilton Hotels! Reserved 1 night to stay. After speaking with friends we were traveling with, we decided to add on another night. I called the ihg reservation line as provided in the email to add Friday night to ensure it would be booked in the same room. I go to digitally check in and notice my room isn’t what I reserved. Called the front desk and was told I have a different room reserved each night plus the hotel is overbooked so we would have to stay in a smaller room on Friday, check out at 11am on Sat, and wait to check in at 3pm on Sat. I called the reservation line to see if they could fix their mistake. They informed me this was all they could do, but we could leave any items needed at the front desk while we were out and stay in the lobby as long as we needed. Since the wrong room was booked by reservations, our room was smaller than expected for our family. We ate pizza with our friends in the lobby since we didn’t have room in our room. Our kids made a mess so we offered to clean it up. Instead of the front desk cleaning the area or asking cleaning staff to do so, they gave us some napkins and a broom to clean it up ourselves. No offer to help us and no disinfecting solution for the tables we ate at. On Saturday we checked out before 11am and asked to keep our things at the front desk. We were told there was no available refrigerator to keep any items that needed to remain cold, so we had to throw those out and use a cooler in our car for our child’s medication. We asked to be notified if early check in was available and were told there wasn’t an early check in list but the hotel could call if that was available. We took our kids to the Children’s Museum. Everyone was getting tired and our little ones needed naps badly. I still had no call from the hotel for early check in availability so I assumed that wasn’t an option. We decided to cut our trip short and go home. I called guest relations and informed them of our experiences. I asked if I cancelled now if I could please not be charged as we would have stayed had we a place to crash right now if reservations hadn’t booked us incorrectly. They said they called the hotel while I was on hold and I could not cancel my room without being charged the full amount, but the general manager of the hotel could call me in 48 hours. We took our kids bowling to try to pass more time before we could check in. We decided if we had to pay for the room for the night then we should tough it out and use it. As we are paying our check, I receive a phone call from the hotel front desk. The woman asked if we were still staying the night. I told her that I called guest relations and was told we would still be charged in full if we cancelled tonight so we were trying to pass time until we could check in at 3pm (it was 3:30pm at the time). The woman said she would cancel our room and we would not be charged for this night. I said with everything that’s happened I want a confirmation email showing this in writing. She said she would send it and I have yet to receive that or the refund that is supposedly being given for Saturday night. We stayed at Hampton Inn our last stay, near the Colts stadium, and it was wonderful. I highly recommend avoiding IHG hotels and staying at...
Read moreThis hotel has been heavily ran through and wore out. Walls and doors are scuffed and dirty. Checked in was smooth except the room had not been checked off as cleaned in their system so they sent a staff member to check the room. The staff person came back and said it was cleaned. We got into our room and immediately went to use the restroom and found dried pee drops on the toilet seat and a big glob of hair sitting in the tub. The tub actually had paint chipping like it had been resurfaced before and it was wearing off The paint on the bathroom ceiling was peeling. There was hair, particles, and little stains on the bed sheets. The floor was carpeted with big stain spots where something had been spilled. I don’t know why they even put lounge type couches in hotels- they just get nasty and you don’t know what kinds of nasty has taken place before your stay. The one in our room had subtle stains on it but the fabric was dark blue. I did call the front desk to request new sheets and someone to come clean the bathroom. They said the “head” of housekeeping would come take care of it and he did come and change the bedding and cleaned the bathroom and asked if it was okay before he left. I think the dude was not only the head of housekeeping but the entire housekeeping. He was Hispanic and there was somewhat of a language barrier but he was really nice but so was I. I realize he is just doing the best he can which I appreciated but the hotel overall just did not meet my standards for cleanliness or comfortable aesthetic. Because of that and the terrible bed and pillows, I wasn’t comfortable and slept horribly. It is a major chain hotel located in a good location within a huge city, they can afford update and remodel the place as well as hire enough staff to maintain the quality in appearance and cleanliness- especially for the price of the rooms. The hotel was in a decent area/ not ghetto. I felt safe there and there were several options for shopping and eating within a reasonable driving distance. Because of the state of the hotel though, there was no way I was eating the free breakfast so I couldn’t tell you if it was good or not. It could have been worse but it wasn’t great and I only...
