There were two young women working when we came in to check in. It was a little before 6:00 PM There was one other person in the lobby. They seemed to have trouble checking us in. We had two rooms and used one credit card to secure the room, and instructed them that we would pay for one in cash the next morning. We had the park and cruise package as we were leaving for the Bahamas the next day. They had the maintenance guy come and find me later to give me the receipt to give to the shuttle driver and they were unable to find the instruction sheet and were unable to provide any further information on that service. They seemed a lot more interested in talking to each other than taking care of their customers. We got our keycards and went to our rooms. The rooms were nice, smelled good and were clean. We used the pool later and that was small but nice. After the pool I went back to the desk to ask for a couple of extra towels and you would have thought I asked for the moon For some reason it was a big deal/ There was another woman standing there who had also asked for towels and had been waiting (she said) about five minutes. A few minutes later the girl came back with towels for us both.
The breakfast the next morning was pretty good. The breakfast area is nice and the food was decent. The only issue I had the next day was the shuttle. The woman (in a suit, I am assuming a manager) at the desk was very nice and gave us the instruction paper that the girls the night before failed to give us. The shuttle bus was crowded. Some people that were supposed to get on the 12:30 shuttle got on the 11:30 shuttle. I am assuming that everyone was given shaky instructions (if any) about the process. The shuttle was overcrowded and hot as the air didn't work on the bus. I'm sure that it really doesn't have anything to do with you guys, but thought you should know.
Also, the credit card was charged for BOTH rooms, not one, and was charged before we ever got up the next morning. Not really happy about that. We gave clear instructions, and they were not followed. And it's not like it was the sale credit card that was used to secure the reservation. I booked the room, and my friend in the other room got charged for MY room.
All in all, the hotel itself was nice,, but the service on check in and that first evening frankly sucked and was NOT a great way to...
Read moreI would of given this hotel a 5 star rating for cleanliness, breakfast selection, and front desk customer service. However, I suffer from severe mold/dust allergies and arrived at the hotel after 11 pm to find that the room was clean, but smelled like a sweaty locker room which signaled to me that too much humidity was in the carpet; a breeding ground for mold spores and dust mites. I tried to turn the AC on to filter the air and it made things worse. If I tried setting the temp higher than 64, it would blow out a strong musty odor. I chose Fairfield because it has been known for quality/comfort and I was willing to pay extra for these important details since I have had a good experience in the past in Orlando. If you or someone traveling in your group has severe allergies, I recommend that you arrive early enough to check your room because I barely made it through the night with Prednisone and Benadryl—the two things that kept me from the ER, but provided little comfort throughout the night that I would make it out alive. I finally slept 2 hours between 12 and 7 am.
My recommendation for the hotel management is that they remove as much carpet from the rooms and/or designate allergen free rooms for travelers like me and conduct maintenance for the AC units to prevent excessive mold spores/dust mites accumulation in the FL climate which affects the air quality and bedding (breathing and skin). After driving almost 5 hours to visit my daughter who is attending college, I needed rest and a healthy environment to sleep in, but this hotel experience was the worst for me in my travels. I live In FL and have stayed in Orlando, the city that triggers the worst outdoor allergy reactions in me, but still had a great Fairfield Inn indoor air quality experience throughout the entire hotel. Thankfully, I had medications with me that prevented a hospital trip and enabled me to return home. I hope you find this review helpful in your search for a hotel in Jacksonville. I searched for two days and read many reviews; yet, I was not prepared to experience what I did last...
Read moreThe hotel room was fine, completely as expected for a hotel of this category. The problem I have is with their airport shuttle. As a stated service on their website, and one of the primary reasons for booking an airport hotel, quick and efficient transportation to the airport is paramount. I arrived at the hotel shuttle area just after midnight on a Wednesday evening. I called the hotel to request a shuttle as I would not expect it to run continuously at such a late hour, and was told the shuttle would be on its way. I then proceeded to wait 45 minutes without seeing the shuttle, before calling back. THEN, it was explained to me that they share shuttle services with EZ Park. It's a great idea and helps combine efforts in a time where finding drivers is difficult, BUT the EZ Park shuttle isn't marked in any way to tell a person that. The driver actually asked me if I was going to the Microtel at one point, which I was not so I said that, but never thought to ask if he was picking up for my hotel too. Meanwhile, I saw the DoubleTree shuttle 3 or 4 times while I was waiting. It really would be as simple as printing off 1 sheet of paper with the name of the hotel in large print and sticking it on a window to let all your customers know that the EZ Park shuttle is their shuttle too. It's ridiculous. When I checked in, I received no apology for waiting for nearly an hour to get to my hotel. I did receive an upgrade to a suite, but am not sure if this was due to my Bonvoy status or as an apology, but I was only staying for approximately 5 hours until my morning flight. It does me no good to get a room upgrade when all I need is a bed. I have been trying to use Bonvoy more since the pandemic, but I am constantly being reminded that Hilton properties just seem to give better service. I will never stay at this Fairfield again, and it's making me second guess my entire franchise choice...
