I planned a stay at this hotel to sleep for the night while on a road trip with my husband and our 1 year old daughter. It had the right price and reviews so we booked it. Upon arrival, I knew off the bat that the photos and website description were not accurate. The area and the hotel was rundown.
The staff were indifferent to our arrival. Just doing business as usual. Nothing extraordinary. I asked the agent if she could accommodate us with a room on the first floor since we had a baby, she said that our room would be on the third floor but that there is an elevator. We checked in anyways and received our room key and rode up the old, dirty and creaking elevator to our floor.
The hallways immediately smelled like cannabis and you could hear individuals partying down the hall. Very classy. We did not think much of it because, like I said, we were just staying for the night to rest our eyes and our room was on opposite ends of the "party".
Keep in mind that the staff was aware that we were traveling with a 13 month old. With that being said, they assigned us to a room that lacked a working AC. They had a small portable AC unit that was enough to cover 1/4th of the room plus required the window to be open letting in more humidity.
It was after midnight at this point and we were too tired and absolutely disillusioned with the establishment as a whole. We had already overlooked many negatives at this point. We decided to leave and drove 20 miles up i95 to a hotel in Kingsland, Georgia.
We stayed at this hotel for a total of 20 minutes. We called the front desk to let them know their services were not rendered and we would like a refund. The manager got upset and rudely asked us why we didn't come down and let her know that the room was not suitable. It is simply not our responsibility to let you know that your room is not up to standard. That is not how you do business. Additionally, they were already not accommodating our needs when we told them we were traveling with a baby. They refused to process a refund. Thankfully, we used our AMEX, filed a claim and will be getting our money back.
To wrap it all up: If you are looking for a place to stay while on the road, I recommend staying at a hotel in either Yulee or Kingsland. Stay away from this area. This area is the epitome of "Duval County". The management at this franchise is completely unprofessional. The hotel is rundown and the description and photos on their website are not accurate. When we walked back to our car we even noticed there was a room that didn't have a window. I am convinced the 5 star reviews for this establishment are fake and written by people that they know. If you notice, some of their google reviews are posted by individuals with the same last name. Stay at your own risk. They are crooks.
We will be reporting their franchise to...

Read moreAny positive aspects of this hotel are grossly overshadowed by its front desk staff/ownership. In all my years of traveling (primarily with Choice properties) I have NEVER experienced a more unprofessional, unwelcoming and unfriendly front desk staff. Especially considering it consists of a co-owner & someone with "19 years experience". The only focus of this property is to squeeze more money out of you. From the $30.00 per room early check-in fees (despite being a Choice Privileges perk) to the $150.00 per room "smoking & pet fee" that they WILL find a way to charge for. They charged us an extra $150.00 for one of our two rooms. Not for "smoking or pets" but for... "bad room..smells like pee". This was the room of our two teens. I know kids sweat but really...pee? No smell can be noticed above the constant reek of mold/mildew in every "newly remodeled room" at this hotel. I knew the moment I entered and saw the ownership it was going to be a bad stay. I would have left but I had already prepaid and the cancelation time had passed. I rolled the dice and lost. The only time I could understand the front desk staff was when they mentioned their fees so needless to say I'm not wasting my time in any effort to contest these charges. Enjoy the extra $210.00...perhaps you can use it to hire someone to pick up all the empty alcohol bottles and trash around the property. The owner likes to respond to negitive reviews with talking points, excuses/reasons and false niceties and he's free to do so. I'm free to warn you of this location and say if you're traveling in Jacksonville, FL for the airport or cruise port there are multiple other chain hotels in the area that would be a much better choice. Speaking of choice....if you're a Choice Privileges member don't do it. It's not...
