I made a reservation through the Woodspring Suites web site. When I arrived to check in , the front desk staff tried to charge me roughly $80 more, citing that the reservation quote didn't include housekeeping charges. I refused to pay the upcharge, and they relented with the stipulation that I would not receive housekeeping services.||||- The pipes under the bathroom sink leak. When I tried to report the issue during business hours (Monday 2pm), the front desk was abandoned. Dialing the extension lead to a dead line. Staff eventually showed up, saying that they would call maintenance. Maintenance never came.||||- The kitchen faucet leaks. I tried again to reach the front desk during business hours (Monday 6pm). The phone in my room was dead. The front desk was abandoned. Dialing the extension lead to a dead line. I called the national customer service number (844-974-6835) and told them about the three incidents. They said that they would contact the general manager.||||- The general manager calls. He misconstrues my complaints. He filibusters me with scripted excuses. He flat-out lied about the state of the hotel (citing that the dead-line extension had voice mail). He said that he would have maintenance tend to the leaks on 11am the next day. That did not happen.||||- After talking to the general manager, I followed up with national customer service. They said that they would take action after my reservation was over. I tried to explain to them that that would do me no good. They did not care.||||- Maintenance did not come today. Instead, they handed me a notice that I need to move out the next day. They did issue a partial refund, but they are withholding $90.56 for no stated reason whatsoever. The original reservation was for a month, and the general manager opted to end it after three days instead of address the maintenance issues and the deceptive pricing.||||- I called the national service number again to update them on the situation. They said that they'd notify the general manager... y'know, the guy that lied to me and is throwing me out.||||- - -||The combination of a dishonest general manager and a completely apathetic customer service department -- both of whom are more interested in reciting scripts instead of addressing problems -- enables and rewards the general manager's dishonesty and laziness. He wants all of the benefits of operating a Woodspring Suites facility with absolutely none of the responsibility or the effort.||||Since the national customer service is complicit due to their apathy, I recommend not staying at any Choice Hotels facilities until they address the root causes allowing scams like these...
Read moreI booked our room using a 3rd party app which was non-refundable. Upon arriving at the hotel, I am told that their room key machine was down and if I booked my room directly with them I could be issued a refund, or I could call the company I booked with and try to get my money back, but either way I would have to wait for my bank to make it available in my account, which could take 2 to 3 days. Of course, that would not help me when I needed a room then, not in 2 or 3 days. So bc of us not being able to get refunded immediately, she said I could keep my reservation, but she would have to take me to my room and let me in, which I had no choice but to say, "ok.". So she got me in her system, and then told me to let her know when I was ready to head up to my room. After getting my belongings out of our vehicle, we proceeded to our room, and when I was let in, I was left speechless. My first thought was why did I book here? To start we were given the wrong room type. I had booked a queen bed, with sofa, but our room had 2 double beds with no sofa. The sheets were not clean, one of the beds only had sheets and no blanket, the walls were dirty and you could see the outline where pictures had once hung, the floors were not very clean, the refrigerator was noisy and scared me every time it came on, neighbors were yelling next door and in the hallway, the people above us stomped around around all night, and the list can go on for awhile. The room just felt so cold and uninviting. While I do realize that this establishment is for extended stay guests, you could at least keep some of your rooms more appealing for your guests staying one to 2 nights, or you risk not ever seeing them again. For the price paid, which was $107 on a Monday evening, it was not worth it. We have to get a room at least twice a month when we visit Jacksonville, so I am more than familiar with pretty much every hotel chain in the area, as we have been doing this since August of 2021, and at that time were staying in town nearly all week. This place is one of the ones I can definitely say I will scroll past when looking for a comfortable room at a good rate. If you are looking for something affordable and also not wanting to lose your comfort and amenities, the establishments off of JTB are not too far away from this spot, and are much nicer as long as you avoid Hometown Suites because of very similar...
Read moreI originally stayed for the price ($49/night for a week). The rooms are 200 square feet (4 floors) but the space is utilized great. Tub size is vital in a motel and this one was roomy and deep. Plenty of hot water and pressure. It had a big refrigerator, a two burner stove, a microwave, and plenty of kitchen storage space if you include the bottom and the drawers. Kitchen is unfurnished except for one little cutting board, which came in handy. The bed was actually great, comfy, a little soft on top yet firm and supportive. Good sized bed for the smallest and cheapest room. No couch but preferred to not have one. I needed the space for setting up a work table. Direct TV, good selection of movies.
Cons: Whatever is being used on the floor, it has built up a sticky layer and whatever cleaner it was, it made the room air not tolerable. They use it in the halls too. Fortunately I have a wet & dry Swiffer. I took that out and made haste to the floor, mopping it about three times (200 square feet doesn't take long). I got up a ton of dirt. By the time I was done, that room was the cleanest and best smelling in the hotel. Maybe I should work there. I suggest stop using that cleaner and take a basic cleaner and go over the floors a few times to get that layer up then use vinegar and water or some easy going solution. I couldn't open the window but a crack because of the lock which I say remove it. I would have liked to have the window open. Other than the floor, having the key turn off exactly at 11am with no notice or grace period, that's not good customer service.
Overall I give the place a 5 star rating because, it was very clean, even the laundry room and hallways. I loved the laundry because it had plenty of new-looking, working washers and dryers and you could use your own card ($2.50 per load). I've had such a pain using laundry at Sonesta and some others. Laundry is vital. That has to work.
Mr. Jackson is an excellent host and his staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and well trained. There is a certain charm to that place and a feeling of safety and being welcomed. No nonsense living and a great place to think. Big windows and upscale blinds, new paint, feels like being in my house. (oh, also, great vending machines and I never saw a single bug). I would return to this hotel and recommend it...
